....a side note in free dining though they had more blackout dates on them this year as well as non eligible resorts then they have in the past so it depends on how you look at it

It definitely did seem more restricted, that's for certain. Honestly, we weren't even going to visit this year, but with the total package price, for our family, it just worked out ok. If we were to compare the cost of staying offsite, food, and tickets, it might have saved us a few dollars, but not enough to make us want to stay offsite this time.

Have we before? Yes, absolutely. In the future, if/when we decide to come back to WDW, I'll go through the same process as I did this time...if prices continue to go through the roof and discounts disappear, it's not out of the question that we will completely skip, or at least drastically reduce to a single day, our visit to WDW, and instead enjoy the other parks in the area.

In regards to the free dining offers, I got my free dining pin for the same dates as the current promotion that was released to the public recently back at the end of May! A good 3 month before the public one became available! It's crazy how much free dining they are offering and still having trouble filling up resorts!

I think Disney realized some time ago they can't get rid of "free" dining, so they've upped the rack rate to compensate. Now, they've jumped so high so quickly that even people who believe free dining is a real value are having second thoughts.

People are gullible... but they ain't that gullible.

Exactly why we opted to stay at a value resort for the first time ever and pay the extra 150 to upgrade to the plus dining.

While free dining and small crowds are worthy of discussion, I can't help but think I've stumbled upon something that is utterly baffling and disgusting and right out in public view.

Yes, I am speaking of gambling and Disney. I want to make it clear that what I am posting is info that I have just come upon. It's probably worthy of its own thread, but I also don't want it moved to where no one will read it as if it was news to me, it's probably news to 99% of the people here.

Disney has a thriving casino and lotto branding division. STOP. READ AGAIN. THINK.

The company that has spent countless millions over the years to keep casinos out of Florida (and their higher paying jobs too) has a business that they never talk about and no one ever writes about (anyone want to send this to Jason Garcia at the Sentinel? It really is more of a Bloomberg or WSJ piece, but you'd think the local paper would be interested.)

It was developed under Ike Perlmutter's stewardship at Marvel, BUT Disney has moved full-throttle it would appear into this unreported business segment.

As Disney is perceived as a wholesome, family-friendly purveyor of entertainment, it is unfathomable that TWDC is quite active in this business. Yet, it is true. Being that Disney has thwarted ANY AND ALL attempts to bring casino gaming to Florida, it is also the utmost of hypocrisy.

Not only does this now-Disney business division actively leverage IP for casino games, it pursues state and national lotteries. Disney inked deals just this spring and is continuing to work pushing its IP for use in slot machines on casino floors and scratch-off lottery games. Moreover, Disney has redirected its efforts at the online gaming community where there has been an explosion of IP-related growth in just the last few years using Disney-owned characters.

Not only does this go against the image of the company, and its platform against gambling of any kind, the online activity is directed squarely at attracting younger gamblers familiar with the Disney characters. Attracting kids. (Playtech and Cryptologic are the led companies Disney is working with presently.)

Also hearing some Anaheim pals tell me that show quality issues have risen 'greatly' since Michael Colglazier has taken over.
Sad to hear. After only having been to WDW my whole life, I assumed the internet's belief that DLR's show quality was immensely better than WDW's was exaggerated. But when I finally went last Fall, I was blown away by how great everything looked and sounded.

They are staunchly anti-gaming, so one would be hard put to fathom how they would possibly want to see Spidey on a brand new slot machine (one that could easily attract the eyes of children walking thru a casino to get to their room or have dinner with their folks).
Question: Are Disney's free to play (F2P) efforts a form of gambling for children?

I seem to recall a little after - I want to say maybe a year or two - the Marvel acquisition, Disney had a dispute with one of the companies licensing Marvel characters for gaming... a company that had a deal pre-Disney. But the dispute wasn't over Disney not wanting the gaming deal, it was over exclusive vs non-exclusive use of the characters and use of the characters online as well as in "real" casinos. I believe Disney wanted to make sure it could license the characters out to MORE gaming companies, while the company believed it had exclusive use.

I believe they settled out of court or via arbitration. What stood out to me most was the effort to keep the Disney name out of it - it was all about "Marvel" and this other company - name I can't recall - as if Marvel was still its own company.

Someone with more time/motivation than me can look into it and fill in the details if so inclined.

Truthfully, Marvel should probably be staying out of the gaming industry, even as a stand alone company. Now that they are owned by Disney, it seems even more imperative to get out.

So? Not really a big deal in my opinion. They are running a business and its not like they are prostituting Cinderella downtown

If any CMs have the memo that went out regarding MK area road work and 'future development' ..I'd love to get a gander at that.

I haven't been in 2013, which is shocking, and I just swapped my annual September visit for a winter visit to DLP, so I have no firsthand experiences. But I trust the opinions and perspectives that are relaying the info to me. Even Miceage has discussed some of the issues that are showing up.

If Disney and gaming are OK with you (let some arsehole explain to us simpleminds that Disney is a business ...I actually think using that line should be a crime punishable by stoning) why not move to the sex business?

How about some Ariel lube before you Journey Under the Sea? And what dude wouldn't want to slip into a Mighty Thor or Buzz Lightyear condom?

And no one in the real media thinks Disney's gamble should come up snake eyes?

Dude I gamble every time I go to Carousel of Progress that I won't have to rewatch a scene because of idiots trying to leave the theater, every time I hope for a room request I ask for, or every time I decide to take a Disney bus for transportation

Take a deep breath....it's ok

Thanks.

That just amazes me. I can't wrap my mind around the utter hypocrisy being practiced by the Mouse, and that no one has opted to expose it.

They are evil...evil I tell you - they will rule the world and control all of our minds with this magic band stuff just you wait and see. I'm sure they poison the dole whips too but just for the little kids...evil I say
