There are times when you just make me go HUH?
Hotel rooms and DVC are infrastructure. Yes, they generate revenue but they're a place to stay while you're out touring the parks. The reason someone is going to buy a DVC is because they're close to the parks. Sure, there are some people that love the hotels and are buying solely for the hotels. However, most people that are investing in DVC are doing so because they want to go to the parks. If you don't improve the parks, the demand for DVC goes down.

That's not what infrastructure is. A new resort, DVC or otherwise, must demonstrate via a pro forma that it will be profitable before being greenlit. Infrastructure carries no such requirement. Room nights are "product," NOT infrastructure.

The SunPass mini is a passive RFID that has adhesive on it and it sticks to your windshield. It doesn't have a battery or any lights. Mine has always worked perfectly. Matt mentioned that he sometimes had one in this glove box. These things are made so that they only work if they are mounted on glass.

They also make a transponder box that can be transferred between vehicles and it runs on a battery and has indicator lights.
Interesting, EZ-PASS hasn't gotten those upgrades here in the Northeast.

I'm not going into the conspiracy department, but there has been various stories for many years of the government and The Walt Disney Company working on various projects together. You don't even need to look recently, look at the government propaganda films that Walt had the studio create, which weren't just out patriotism, rather the studio needed funds with recession and war. So, it isn't too far fetched to see that in Disney's ancient IT infrastructure in ORL, maybe, some modern cooperation allows the company to upgrade tech and allows testing for the system, whether it's for a government agency or private company.

Here's my question: You scoff at @WDW1974 and his notion of what is going on here and then present yourself as having the insight that no one else has as to what the company is doing by tying in your Disney Infinity scenarios, so shouldn't you see that many people will look at you as skeptically as he? Yet, we're getting posts that are very condescending and on the verge of insulting when you reply to any and all that he or she doesn't understand what's really going on here. It seems like you both are saying the same thing, but coming from two different angles.

The bottom line that I would assume that nearly all can agree on is that whatever the motive, rollout, etc., the idea is that the Walt Disney Company sucks every last cent out of their fanbois. Plain and simple. Conspiracies and other issues aside, we're a speck on the spreadsheet and Disney wants every last blood out of that speck.

I don't think TWDC is working with government to disclose info from NGE. This is due to the fact that the government actually wouldn't benefit from that sort of info. Advertisers on the other hand would pay top dollar for a peek. Also, your correct to say that the government and Disney have had collaborations in the past. However such collaborations were merely Disney playing consultant on security in highly tourist areas (facial recognition, biometrics, etc). Just my two cents though. I think this shouldn't be an issue of big government in more of your business.

I have one more observation for today...

Isn't it interesting that the last two theme parks built at WDW (HS/AK) both originated as proposed EC attractions (TGMR was originally designed as an Entertainment Pavilion for FW and Africa was originally designed as Equatorial Africa for WS). Both EC attractions were pushed into the indefinite future because, in part, cost overruns for constructing EC ate up those funds to build them and further cost overruns were controlled by deferment. What's ironic is that these two parks that were built within budget were built with core attractions that were deferred due to cost overruns from another park built 2.5x over budget.

I don't see the US or Chinese government being behind any Disney tech program. That reeks of paranoia.

Its easy to write something off as 'paranoia' just because you think its not true....until something happens. People had been saying for years that the government was tracking every phone call, email, and snooping on everything and those people were labelled "conspiracy theorists" or "paranoid nutjobs." I am NOT saying that the Chinese or US govt's are involved, just that people shouldnt be so quick to label and idea/person "paranoid" simply because you dont believe what they say. Any govt/corporation with something to hide would prefer you label someone paranoid and further promote anyone else from seeking the truth. Always remember: They dont bury the scared, they bury the dead.

Then WDW is no longer for you ... Or you need to visit the Spirited way and look for every loophole and nickel and dime Disney as it does unto you. Unfortunately, soda thievery will no longer be possible.
We are DVC owners (bought resale WLV, less that $55/point) and AP Holders ... any advice for a cheaper vacation to WDW is more than welcome.

Right, it's a disagreement in how accounting is being done. The proper way has them as a "product", but the simpleton in me is regarding anything that doesn't drive attendance as "The cost of doing business"/infrastructure. It's the same way that at work I'm in a "cost center" but the investor division of my company that lost money is considered a "profit center". You can define things one way for the purposes of your pro forma, but that doesn't tell the whole story.

What every other state on the east coast has adopted for their tolls, but FL sucks.
Yeah, I could have told you that. Florida does suck. We (I don't know about you, but at least I) live in the worst state in the union. That's why I can't wait for them to make Puerto Rico a state, because then we will live in the second worst state in the union.

Every day, I find something else for why Florida sucks. Just the other day, I learned that GA, NC, SC, and VA (but not FL because FL sucks) are working with the Federal government to make long term incremental improvements to the existing SE rail corridor with the eventual goal of high speed rail.

What is EZ Pass? Pardon my ignorance.

It's something that has made life easier getting through the city (NY) and driving up and down 95, and is cheaper than using cash at the tolls. I think Virginia is the last EZ pass toll to pay on the way down. Love the fast lane EZ pass.

Side note: EZ-pass and Sunpass are not compatible... As I found out Thursday on I-95. Also... $32 in tolls?!?!
You're supposed to be able to use the E-pass in Florida! I have. Worked okay. I don't know which states you had charges in, though, and haven't driven 95 through all the states you did. $32 in tolls is a LOT!

Hope your trip was worth it!

I have traveled on I-95 since my first trip in 83, but within that first decade of the 80's I stopped going the big toll way. There are many bypasses and I have used them all successfully. It was never a cost of tolls for me it was the constant stopping that drove me crazy. I could go from Vermont to Florida and never pay a penny in tolls. Now that I live in NC, it's not even on the radar, but I understand that there is legislation in the works to make the stretch of I-95 passing through NC a toll road. Won't that be lovely? From where I live I can bypass it pretty easily and not really add that much more time to my trip (maybe a half hour).
