One note I keep forgetting to mention is how in Iger's response he talked about MyMagic+ not being launched yet ... now, he may be correct in terms of guests.

But what the hell do you call that fiasco with Nick Franklin and the O-Town media? That wasn't a launch? Do you need Lou Mongello and Ricky Brigante for a launch to be official?

It is crazy.

I know he's been at EPCOT and the MK today already. I'm wondering how many security types he had with him
(boggles the mind that I know billionaires who actually own companies, not manage them, who go out on their own with no security, yet Iger needs a 24/7 $1 million a year security detail).

What an effing ego.

I know we would recognize him but if he wasn't flashy and acted normal... would anyone really recognize him and if they did would they bother him that bad?

Yo, what is a "Disney Lifestyler"? It keeps coming up in this thread and I'm guessing it's got some specific meaning.

It refers to people who have moved to O-Town to live in the parks and have set up Disney-related business ventures (blogs, podcasts, websites, travel agencies etc) ... basically, their whole lives revolve around Disney in what many psych specialists might suggest isn't ... normal or healthy.

TWDC can no longer compete in the Orlando market with the latest and greatest rides. So they've opted instead to bribe their guests into staying on property with NextGEN and TragicBand plussed experiences that are basically more or less what they're getting now, just delivered in a fancy technology wrapper.

As I stated previously, I don't believe that what TWDC is peddling now for NextGEN and TragicBand capabilities, is what will be offered to everyone in the future. This whole thing reeks of bait-n-switch tactics.

And many features being touted today will most likely end up in the trash pile tomorrow, for being too complex to deliver on a regular and consistent basis.

I agree with your conclusions ... I think Disney's brass is getting that idea despite all their spin to the contrary.

I like how you tried to turn this into I was ragging on Make a Wish. Despite appearances, you aren't that stupid.

No. Again, READ what was written. Think about the words. I never said or intimated what you are stating.

I said that it appeared you were trying to tie in the great work done by Make a Wish into people criticizing how WDW is run. I don't think I misread what you said ... and I am far from stupid.

@WDW1974,

I have a question. In the letter, Disney says they are not going to share certain info, do this or do that etc. If they happen to do these things they say they aren't going to do and it backfires(like identity theft, credit card info stolen, or a child's info is shared) and the guest ultimately finds out about it could they sue for that?

This story is short and doesn't add much substance, but the headline is telling because Iger is already DEFENDING something that hasn't even started yet ... doesn't portend great things ahead when the Industry rags are taking shots even in headlines.

Another article read referred to Iger ''throwing a hissy fit'' ... not good Zenia, you need to control your boss if you have any hope of retaking control of the message (that's what I'd say if you were my client, so take it as very pricey free advice!)

I think there might be a hissy fit at the Shareholder's meeting(Maybe Dr Phil and Richard Simmons will be backstage to help the weatherman relax)???

I just want to hear the word "Tragic Band" used in one question to him.

Just a quickee from the good folks at WKMG, the CBS affiliate in O-Town:
http://www.clickorlando.com/news/Lo...4626/-/format/rsss_2.0/-/iu7ek0z/-/index.html

Disney has a PR problem, and it's probably going to get worse before it gets better.

At some point, we'll get a bit by Leno & then Letterman, to be followed by Jon Stewart and Colbert. After that a skit on SNL and a few headlines in the Onion and some damage is done.

Over time, toxic words and phrases could begin to attach themselves like glue. Things like "invasive", "pervasive", "Orwellian", "Big Brother", "tracking", etc.. You get the idea. Even at this point, the term "Data Mining" attached to a carefree trip to a park sounds less than welcoming.

Next Gen may be benign, or it may be malignant. In truth, the reality is that it's likely somewhere in the middle of those two extremes. I'm agnostic on this project thus far and will remain so until I know more, but so far am not keen on what I've seen.

Rep. Markey may have been grandstanding, or doing a public service (likely some of each), but I didn't see anything inflammatory or accusatory in his letter. Iger's response on the other hand was self-righteous indignation which doesn't serve him or the company well.

So basically people who are so invested in the parks emotionally that they have blinders on about anything negative about the company and would politely ignore if Mickey Mouse drop-kicked a pregnant woman? I can see why they're spoken of in the way this thread refers to them. Some people just take this stuff way too seriously...
