Now that folks is their bargaining chip. This is likely already underway. They opened an office by Universal which I would presume is mostly accountants carefully making sure spending is upheld.

I thought that was their DataMining and Research Centre®

Also knit pick every little thing that the contract stipulates, if I was them I'd go after them by saying certain things aren't upto agreed upon standards
That option was considered when the acquisition went through and quickly dropped because it was going to cost Disney far more than it was worth.

Sure it is....there are always loopholes.
There really are not. Give it a read for yourself. It's been posted here plenty and is a short read.

I agree but that could be an avenue they attempt. I honestly don't think that they want the property at this time, it's easier to get money off of it than it is to invest more money and profit that way

This actually reminds me a little of the old ticket books (I think I may have a couple tickets left from the first time my wife and I visited). If you want to ride the better (E-ticket) rides and had no more E-tickets, buy another book (or spend more money).

I assure you that there are loopholes....now whether or not those loopholes are WORTH pursuing is another matter altogether.

Man, I just had this bad dream where somebody made some crazy movie about WDW, and we were all flaming each other in a giant dumpster fire thread about it. Must've been something I ate.

My theory on Marvel and WDW is that if they're going to try anything, it'll be with Guardians of the Galaxy. That movie announcement kinda came out of left field, so my big conspiracy theory is that they decided that Guardians is separate enough that it isn't covered by the Uni deal. ALL properties at Marvel have crossed over at some point, but Guardians is somewhat separate. The Uni deal seems pretty ironclad; I think Disney's only hope is to find characters they feel aren't covered.

How do you know that? I'm pretty familiar with the licensing agreements and how extensive they are and they have people looking for these little details that can come back and bite them.

Lol. For a second there I thought you were going to say you had never been in space either.....
I showed up to the Star Command recruiting center one day. "You need direction!", my Mum said. "See the galaxy!", my Mum said. On my first day, they threw me in some XP-thirtywhatever space cruiser and sent me off to fight the Evil Emperor ZURG! The horrible things I saw that day... you don't know. You just don't know. Little green body parts everywhere...

Interesting part of the contract...Universal must allot a certain amount of space to selling "(Disney)Marvel" merchandise and paying said royalties or they could lose the whole contract.
The terms also prevent Universal from scaling back promotion of Marvel characters, even after they become part of the Disney empire. One provision requires Universal to devote a certain percentage of its annual advertising spending to promoting Marvel characters; another states that Universal must maintain at least 10,000 square feet of retail space for Marvel merchandise.
Marvel -- and, soon, its new owner, Disney -- even has "reasonable audit and review rights" to assure that Universal is paying the proper amount in annual merchandise royalties.

That's the purpose of the office... Audits... At least that's my understanding.

The space is there and has been there and the royalties are being paid to Marvel still, not Walt Disney World. Universal already forced Disney to agree that the audited numbers never make their way to Parks and Resorts as part of the federal government approving the purchase.

That's like the right hand not knowing what the left hand is doing. Somebody is watching over both of them and controlling the ultimate decisions.
