I was looking at another thread and the OP mentioned the speedway and it got me thinking, with all the going green and everything why has Disney not changed the cars to electric? It would seem to me that running the cars the way they are would be more costly than electric, also there is the air pollution and noise pollution. Of course a even better reason is there is nothing "tomorrow" like about gas powered bumper cars.

If they're serious about going green, they should! And DECORATE the area- even if it's cheesy animals. Just do it!

I wonder how the Fantasyland expansion will affect the fuel tank that is near the bathrooms at Mickey's Toontown Fair. They may have to relocate it or otherwise upgrade to a more environmentally friendly fuel.

Funny, the whole idea of the Autopia was "futuristic" in the 50s because the Interstate system which it was supposed to emulate was still a new idea. Nowadays most folks can get the same experience with their lawn tractor.

Aren't the Autopia cars in HKDL electric?

Seriously, just rip it out. NOTHING about it is futuristic. And it smells. I have a 1968 Nova that doesn't smell as bad.

Prime ride space. A ride should be it's future.

Don't rip them out, make them better, faster, and able to fly or something. That'd be futuristic right there.

Update the Speedway!

I would imagine with the recent troubles the "green movement" has been having given the realization that the science is not really settled....any further greening of the parks might be put on hold.

Anyway, who has ever been to an Indy race that was nice and quiet where you watched a bunch of electric cars tootle around the track?

Don't know about the flying part, but YES! Our current Speedway, IIRC, was never truly depicted as being futuristic. Or at least a somewhat lame attempt at being futuristic. Also, I see the appeal for those who like the idea of riding the tiny cars. I, for one, remember thinking how awesome it was when I was 7.

My take? Don't replace it with something else, but improve on the theming and other aesthetics. I agree in making the cars electric, but add elaborate shrubbery around the track. Make it less about racing and more of another way to see Tomorrowland, with announcements of daily Tomorrowland happenings. CM costumes - change them to something more pleasing. And for the queue and entrance, make the lines more bearable, more than just some stuffs to look at and an open queue with umbrellas. Rather, have canopies from the rain and Florida sun in the outdoor portion. Have another backstory for the Speedway besides racing. Oh, and rename the Speedway, really.
