SpectroMagic being prepped for return..

That's good news for me. I love Spectro! Btw, last July we took the "Keys" tour. Got to see the floats in the back area. I asked the Tour Guide about this & he told me that Spectro was done for good. Glad too see he was wrong.

Disney really needs to start auditing their tour guides. I don't know why some of them apparently are so ashamed to say "I can't really say" or "I'm not sure..." It's better than flat out lying to a guest. Especially since it is VERY common knowledge among cast members that Spectro would eventually return. How much misinformation did this guy give you for $80 a person?

Exciting rumor for the Spectro fans...but I won't believe a thing until it happens. How many freaking times have we heard this rumor? From many, many reliable sources, no less? The word "soon" has been getting tossed around backstage for the better part of two years now. I don't look for SpectroMagic to return before 2013. Pure speculation on my part, but one thing I've learned is that when it comes to things like this, "soon" usually means "not for a long time," or "never."

Edit: This from a guy at Disboards:

FWIW: Spectro refurb has not started. Some floats are getting batteries so they can be moved to the Main St. East bypass to be used for "decoration" on July 3 & 4, the same as they were used in February when the president came and guests were routed in the East bypass. We were given that information in parade meeting a couple of nights ago when we were going over the 4th information.

Spectro or some variant probably will not return until 2014 or some date to coincide with the "grand opening" of the new Fantasyland according to a lot of people that work on parades and floats. Supposedly there are internal discussions as to whether to bring Spectro back as Spectro or to update to a new version parade (hopefully like Tokyo) at that time. If brought back as Spectro, it "could be" back in mid to late 2013 if approvals to reconstruct the 3 or 4 floats that have to be totally rebuilt are forthcoming. In talking with one of the float "builders" last night he said that work just on one of the floats would take more than 6 months.

The bottom line, get used too seeing ELP (after seeing it 6 to 10 times a week I am getting really tired of it) for a while longer. It was only supposed to be here for 10 weeks in June thru August of 2010, but is still running.

Anyone who thinks that Disney would move the ELP parade floats California to Orlando for just 10 weeks is delusional at best. My favorite parade is also Spectromagic and am looking forward to its return but I also enjoy seeing ELP. Whatever parade is there when I'm there in November will be just fine.
I can't wait to buy my sons some caramel popcorn, sit with them on the curb, and watch the floats go by with my wife and kids after a long day at MK; nothing could be better.

the minute the guy who was doing the interview where the "10 weeks" came up i KNEW he was hiding something. btw do we know which Spectro floats need complete rebuilds? considering their age i'm surprised they arn't ALL being rebuilt. although as far as MSEP is concerned those floats have stood the test of time (the oldest being 35 years old (Title float , all of "Alice" "Cinderella"(excluding Staircase which weas changed in '85) & Pete's Dragon)

i bet the MSEP floats (w/ the exception of Pleasure Island, Dwarf Mine & Tink floats) haven't had a good refurb since the Anaheim Version was loaned out to Florida the first time back in '99 as iirc WDW spent at least a year prior rehabbing all the floats that were in it that time

Didn't they all get a good refurb when they returned to Anaheim and were upgraded to LED's? Either way, I hope Spectro comes back soon. It will be nice to see MSEP one more time when we're there this week, but Spectro is definitely our favorite of the two.

I was just reading on some updates on Mouseplanet and one little note about Spectro came up..
…A new Walt Disney World souvenir book has apparently spilled the beans on an upcoming change at the Magic Kingdom. A photo of a float from the SpectroMagic parade is accompanied by a caption that reads in part: "(Note: The magic returns after the Main Street Electrical Parade revival ends its run.)" No word on when that changeover will take place yet.

So There you go....Discuss..

Anyone that hasn't seen Tokyo's Electrical Parade needs to watch it on youtube.

Pay special attention to Pete's Dragon, the Cheshire Cat, and most importantly, the Genie. Simply amazing.

Certainly makes me not really care which of these two antiquated light parades get shown in WDW.

See, I think that Tokyo's parade is a bit too gawdy and harsh. There's charm to MSEP and even Spectro that isn't there in Tokyo's version. But there are many elements I like. I like their Blue Fairy far better than MSEP's Tink, among other things. Their Cheshire cat is cool, just too big in my opinion...Tokyo's Elliot is fantastic!

Gawdy I understand, but I'm not sure what you mean by harsh. Although personally, I believe a night time parade lit by "thousands of sparkling lights" is MEANT to be gaudy.

Have you seen the genie float? INSANE.

EDIT TO ADD: If I knew how to embed a YouTube video, I would. :|
