Spaceship in Spaceship Earth

I read somewhere that the satellite is now painted black. But it could have also been removed by now as well. I understand that a lot of effects are still in place, just either covered up or turned off.

Yes the satellite would be considered tacky now and not in line with the current theming or ending. I will say that the earth is so much clearer than the original.

Both of the satellites were removed completely in 1994. The astronauts were redressed and placed in the Space Mountain post show. It is the space station that is still there and blacked out. That’s what this thread is exactly all about.

Annoyingly, the instrumental version is (that’s what the OST track begins with minus the brass section)
If you’re talking about the trumpet solo, I think that’s part of the 2nd verse instrumental which is the one instrumental entirely missing from the released track. The 3rd verse instrumental on the OST is true to the original, yes? There was no extra brass in there to begin with.

You can hear it after the vortex tunnel at the start of my mix that was ripped and linked above. Maybe trumpet is a better description.

I took this section from the old entrance BGM that actually included it as opposed to the CD that didn’t.

Ah yes, you combined that with the OST verse 1 instrumental to stand in for verse 2.

I’m starting to think the ride version was a combination of various tracks which is why the album version doesn’t have the additional instrumentals or third verse.

It would be nice to get a SSE album with every incarnation of the ride in HD from it’s source masters and the full Tomorrow’s Child audio as well.

This would be especially important for the original ‘82 version as it isn’t exactly available in the best quality yet however Martin did what he could with it.

Tell me about it! Since I did the edit I’ve found another two Perrin recordings that include the missing line from the start of the ride but don’t improve the quality.

As an aside, the Cronkite version also kept all the sfx and a lot of the incidental BGM from 1982 up to but not including 180top.

My favorite instrumental bit is the little tune you hear when passing the bedroom and paperless office up to the communications center in the ‘86 version.

Mind if you link us to those other two Perrin recordings @marni1971 ?

I’m afraid ones on my HDD. The other is at 15:45

(although annoyingly dark this is the only complete Perrin ride through video I know of)

This footage is absolutely incredible and the first time I've ever seen the entire 1982 version from start to finish. I've seen 2 brief clips of the original version on youtube.

As Martin alluded to: the boy's bedroom with the PC and the woman in the paperless office were added in the 1986 Cronkite version.

Now I get why so few people ever panned their cameras over to see the woman looking at three monitors in the Network Operations Center. These two new scenes now competed with hers.

Prior to the boy's room, it was a wall with angled windows looking out into the stars. Prior to the paperless office it was a glass wall with a mainframe computer blinking behind it.

As we drift into the space station, we now know the woman in the window did have audio as she maneuvered the mechanical arm to dock the satellite, speaking with the astronaut hanging upside down on it.

What surprised me the most was that Tomorrow's Child was essentially just new music and projections in 1986. I had no idea it was the same angular screens, just with images of people talking on it, satlites, scans. I thought it would mostly empty, some stars, maybe a few TV monitors

Then you have the final descent hill with the square projection screens and peg board light walls. Those lasted all the way from 1982 to 1994!

Wow, I'm going to watch the others, these are great.

Do you happen to know/have the music that can be heard starting about 32:38, near the FoN, and then the music starting at about 34:01 by the main entrance fountain in front of SSE?

Interesting tidbit for anyone who hasn't watched the video yet - the EPCOT Center video appears to have been shot on Christmas Day, 1985. :)

Edit: Watching the first EPCOT Center video right now. My God, Jack Wagner on the radio! "Welcome to the Walt Disney World vacation complex", "3 or 4 day multi-day passes"... This really brings back a few memories. :)

That’ll be the EPCOT Center entrance plaza Christmas loop.
