Spaceship Earth Rumors

New ride vehicles are the solution with new wheels. The wheels are not properly sticking to the track, causing the bumpy ride we get especially when going upward, downward or sideways (leaving straight forward as the only smooth motion in the ride-if there is any).

The bumpiness is actually related to the drive system. There are motors alongside the track that drive wheels much like the Peoplemover at Disneyland. These wheels engage platens that run the length of the bottom of the ride cars and propel them along. The gaps in the platens between cars and varations in the heights of the drive wheels cause the bumps that you feel.

You can see this yourself by riding with a flashlight and looking over the front edge of the car.

I agree all they need is one monitor on the lift hill and it could be right in the load area like the new "we're watching you" monitor.

As for the rotating backwards. Couldn't that be said on the actual omnimover speakers as we're heading up the tunnel where Irons says his speil about "electronic babble". Right after he says that a voice comes on and says "attention time machine travelers, for your safety, please remain seated, your time machine vehicle will be rotating backwards for your return to Earth". Then we enter the planeterium and can enjoy the sights and music without hearing the constant drone of the woman's voice playing from a speaker in the planeterium. :veryconfu

Hmmm... so does this mean that it would be very difficult to make the ride smoother?

If so, maybe we could at least get some more comfortable seats? Hard seats + bumpy ride + noisy track = unpleasant experience on an otherwise phenomenal attraction.

(No, I'm not joining the ranks of the constant complainers, but this is the one thing that I think keeps SSE from greatness, and if Siemens is going to put money into a rehab...)

-p.b.

It may be more than new wheels or better grease, but I'm sure that there's ways to fix that. It seems to be the number one complaint about the ride. I sure as heck hope it's on the things to fix.

That said, maybe it's just my memory fading, but I don't remember that ride being so bumpy ten years ago.

Thats the thing, it wasn't that bumpy ten years, in fact, it wasn't that bumpy 4 years ago.

I think Toy Story could use another attraction...how about an omnimover with guns that we can use to shoot various advances in communications.

hahaha... don't give them any ideas!

Toy Phone Story, anyone?

Kev, I've said more than once, that there would be no major rehab in S:E... at least not in the near future ...

Well confound it, can't you just say something different for a change? :)

Anyway, I'll at least throw my tuppence in with the rest and beg for the elimination of the &*#$% wand

I've done so (many, many times)... just surf the forums... :)

And no major rehabs is IMO clear enough... :D

There will be a new post show, but you could have figured that out yourself...

BTW... You may beg as much as you want... but the want is going to be there right where it is now... at least for the next few years...
