Spaceship Earth Refurbishment Progress

Walking out of Epcot after the Nemo preview I decided to check out Spaceship Earth, particularly the post-show area.

First noticeable thing: The old lounge area is all black-tarped over the windows overlooking the fountain of nations. I would never have noticed if it wasn't at night. The lights were bleeding through the sides of the tarps around the edges of the windows. So, they're obviously working up in there on a new lounge right now.

Second, having noted the lounge work, I wandered into the post show and decided to annoy a CM. I was really hoping to see some progress on the post-show area, sadly nothing was visible, but after complaining verbally, the CM took offense and countered with a personal account.

Hooray for getting on people's nerves.

Apparently they've finally started to remove the New Global Neighborhood. They've been working to drag out the out the Network Tree and other objects from behind the big wall in the post show, and the area is being cleared out. According to the CM, the area was pretty much stripped bare and something new was indeed coming sooner than later.

I know CM rumors are not reliable, but the tarps were up over the lounge I saw myself, and when the terminology used includes phrases (from a CM who works 10ft away from the construction site) suggesting they've been back there and seen it for themself.. I think its safe to say they're not just making it up.

I would LOVE for this attraction to get a nice refurb with upgrades to the "time machine vehicles" and an updated ending. This is the quintessential Epcot experience and it could really use some TLC.......not a totally new attraction.

I enjoyed the Global Neighborhood when it first opened, but it got stale quick, IMO. It would be nice to have something worthwhile there again.

My idea for the post show...

Here are my thoughts. The post show should be fun, enlightening, educational to a degree, visually pleasing, and cover inforamtion mostly untouched during the ride. I say focus on current communication tech and maybe even concentrate the area on the internet in which case you could theme the area to Tron and the "programs" could teach you about the inner workings. And they could throw in light cycle sims for good measure.

I feel like the new post show will be a big advertisement for Siemens, disguised with some fun. Personally I really just want to see serious repairs made to the ride. It is still an amazing attraction, I just think that mechanically it needs to be revamped, even if they have to give a major corporation advertising to pay for it...But that's just my opinion.

personally, i think that they should upgrade the Time Machine vehicles and some of the Audio A's. Have you seen those things? They are very old-looking. Why not put in some of the newer generation like Jack Sparrow at POTC?

Siemens Post Show

I think i have found the main feature of the New Siemens Post Show. Now, I have no proof that this will be the feature but it sure looks like it to me. Siemens has developed "Video Paper".

This stuff looks so cool, and they annouced the devlopment of this stuff about the same time as they announced the Sponsorship of SSE. Sponsoring a paviloin about communication and advances in communication would be a great way to bring this stuff to market(imho).

Not a CM, but can confirm the project is underway for a much sooner then later opening. Disney is currently designing the new area with a local company and has already set in motion buying new theatrical equitment. It will, of course, be the Siemens Post Show.

Let me be the first to welcome you to the boards.

Regarding updates to the current AA's in Spaceship Earth, This may invite more breakdowns in the attraction since a more complex AA would require more frequent repairs and upkeep. Older ones would not be out of commission for too long since they tend to only have one motion that is repeated.

I think the ride vehicles and track need the most attention at this time (more than 100 cans of WD-40 type of care)... along with making sure all the visual effects are working.

I must agree. I think it just needs a serious sprucing up of the effects. Maybe one of those fog screen as used in POTC and maybe updating the last scene. But yes... The cars & track have needed work for years. Several times I've been in a car with little or no audio.
As a sentimental (some people say I'm just mental...) guy, I am not crazy about changing classic attraction. But I do understand the need for new and exciting things, as long as it is not done the way they un-improved "imagination". SSE is the last of the EPCOT "story couch rides" and must remain. But it can be improved and updated with the times.
OK, off the soap box, and back to work...:zipit:
