Spaceship Earth Refurbishment Progress

That would certainly cover it :)

About number 3, while I would love to hear a reworked Tomorrow's Child in there, I also agree that it isn't the only way. However, I am a big fan of the musical score that is in the ending now.

I do love both of them. I actually wish Tomorrow's Child would appear in the Fountain of Nations or as the SSE entry loop and re-do the current one a bit.

This is still my favorite attraction in all of Epcot and I am so excited to see it getting refurbed. Here are my suggestions of what I'd like to see done.

1.) Remove the wand. It totally ruins the aesthetics of the building and what it doesn't kill, the graveyard out front does.

2.) Work on the ride system by smoothing out the bumps and knocking sounds in the system and add some sort of padding to the cars.

3.) Change the opening and ending to the ride a bit and put some good closing song at the end even if it's not Tomorrow's Child.

4.) Work on all the animatronics in the ride. They don't all need to be the jack sparrow kind, but seeing some video recently of what they looked like when the ride first opened, they sure moved a lot smoother than they do now.

5.) Bring a great, exciting postshow about communication and Siemen's role in it to the end. I miss the great postshows to rides. That just doesn't seem to happen much anymore.
all sounds good to me. yeh, i made the comment about the AA's.... i agree, not all need to be really nice, but some look really bad like you said. i think that certain scenes could really benefit from the new AA's and what you can do with them

I'd like to see them pony up the budget and remove the entire current vehicle set, fix the track (replace sections if needed) and then put in a new vehicle set/system that is cushy/comfortable with a nice futuristic modern look. Something with padding, a headrest, and maybe a cup holder (kidding about the cup holder).
soooo, you want the cadillac of ride vehicles

it would be nice.

The soundtrack, from what I recall (I could be off or recalling something else entirely) was like radio noise... The idea that signals traveling from earth (the point of origin) move at a contastant speed and the further you move from earth - the older the transmission you'll be able to pick up. So, as you ascend, the signals got older.. you picked up bits of speeches amid static and music and voices and such. "I have a dream.." and "Ask not what your country can do for you.." and "One small step for man.." and other noteable words could b glimpsed as you went up.

Yup that was awsome. Now they removed it and replaced it with "WARNING YOUR VECHICLE WILL BE MOVING BACKWARDS FOR THE RETURN TO EARTH! WARNING YOUR VECHICLE WILL BE MOVING BACKWARDS FOR THE RETURN TO EARTH!" Every time I board the ride and hear that I start crining hoping that audio track would just please die already.

Well, considering one of their sister divisions (or however they organize themselves) builds people movers and transportation systems, I would imagine that they would want to create a bit of an impression of how good their products are.

That is the current track. The previous two had dark, almost scary, howlings and surreal noises, and a feeling of really travelling back to a darker age. Kind of hard to describe without playing it. Just these noises and Perrin / Cronkite narrating up to the 52ft level (Dawn of Time).

Hey Lee, have you heard anything about Disney uncovering/bringing back or putting an updated Space Station in the Space scene? From what I was told, the structure is still there and that they are considering cleaning it up and returning it.

I dont think Siemens cares about the wand because it doesnt affect their reputation of promotion in the attraction.

Tomorrow's Child in the end? ehhh... I do like the Bach Sinfonia they play at the end. Two points for any member who tells me which one it is.

The spaceship is still up there from the Satellite scene at the top, its just been painted black to blend in with the descent.

HINT: When you are looking at the virtual classroom, turn to the right and look up in the rear right corner, there it is!

I know very well of the ship's location, but it is just a matter of whether or not it will make a return, considering the structure is still there.

Sinfonia 02 in C minor?
The direct inspiration comes from a further interpretation of the piece by the Japanese artist Tomita as "The Sea Named Solaris".

Yes, and the piece was featured quite extensively in the Television Series "Cosmos" by Carl Sagan. Now that would be a great voice in Spaceship Earth if he were still alive. Just think, "Spaceship Earth glows with 'Billions and Billions' of interactions..." :) :)

I imagine Carl would have loved the opportunity considering SSE's theme is very close to Sagan's philosophy on the well being for the future of the human species.

It's unfortunate the satelite could not be saved in the 1994 rehab...it really added something to the planeterium.

As far as the space station goes, I've never really understood this scene. First off, it was partially built backwards, that's why the extremely large window that had the girl looking out of it, is behind us, and not infront of us.

It never was elebarote. All it had was some track lighting, paint, and some panneling, besides the window.

All that is left is the octagon space station room that we wind down before we head into the classroom scene. The space station is of course only a frame of itself, with no more wall panneling, and only that CREEPY exctremely big window to look at.

Sadly all the pictures someone took of their documentation of this in a former WDWMAGIC thread have become little red x's in white boxes.

I wonder if the new post show will use the original earth station projection screens, that I believe Martin said are still behind the global neighborhood wrap around screen.

Just to let you know during the late 80s and into the early 90s the Epcot BGM for the front entrance and monorail station consisted of some of the great classic attraction scores of epcot past.

Horizons: If we can dream we can do it
Spaceship Earth: Tomorrows Child
World of Motion: Its fun to be free
as well as the livings seas and others
