Spaceship Earth gets ready for wandless

The title of this thread bolstered my hopes and dreams... Alas, I thought a construction wall had just taken up residence under the eastern leg of Spaceship Earth...

Any alternatives for framework?

I think that I'm also about ready for the wand to come down, but I agree with Mickifan17 about it seeming wasteful somehow ...

The structure that holds it up is very robust, and I'm thinking that there must be something that could be done in keeping with the EPCOT theme to replace the wand with something interesting.

Any ideas or suggestions?

Yes, like:
the return of Spaceship Earth's own laser projections,
the return of changing color patterns upon our beloved Geosphere,
and the return of a permanent, discovery-themed sculpture upon the fountain at the base of SSE.

That's all you need to enhance SSE, and even two of the three only occur at night! :D

Agreed! Rather than a wand or stars, SSE could use a new hightec laser light show and color scheme change at night. Nowe as far as money goes into taking down the wand , look at all the other rides and attractions that were torn down or changed, and they cost at lot more to build than that wand.

As far as the sculpture fountain goes, I wouldn't mind seing that again! Look how all the old publicity photos showed it so geometrically centered under the geosphere. It was ment to be there. Tall and sleek, with water flowing under it. Now it's barren and pink and brown. Ugh!

I'm ready too!

But seriously, I have no problem with it. When you see it from far away at night, it looks nice. The money is better spent rehabbing what's inside the "golf ball" instead of what's outside. I would much rather see the leave a legacy stuff go away instead of the wand, because that area doesn't look too nice now. However, I'm not gonna dedicate myself to moping about it and clenching my teeth everytime I pass by there. That's just me I guess. :)

I would say I liked it when it was there in 2000......then it made sense to have it, pertaining to the Millennium Celebration, and then to the 100 Years of Magic celebration....but now it has no sense to have it up anymore.

I think that they should have SSE coved in fiber optic lights, like I saw one time in the background of some Imagineers saying stuff during some Travel Channel specials, but with the model was with the MK castle, but I thought it was a pretty cool idea if that would happen.

****THREAD DRIFT*****

I just tasted some of those new Doritos Guacmole flavored chips....I as I say....IT HAS SPUNK!!!!!

It has been said that it was removed (partially) because the plexiglass (or whatever it was made of) scratched easily and was hard to upkeep. It doesn't even have to be the same design. It just should be keeping with the spirit of Epcot, i.e. not a big topiary of Tinkerbell (as it is currently, yet not permanently, for the F+GF).

Oh how I love that nice little sign above Spaceship eath. When I'm in the park and forgot the name I just have to turn around, so convenient. They should make one over the castle in Magic Kingdom and to the site of the tree of life in animal kingdom and don't forget about one abouve that ugly lttle hat at the Studios.

Ok just get it down, it looks dum!

I liked it during the Millenium celebration and even liked it for a while before. Heck a few months ago I defended it in a different thread, but now that I work there on occassion I am beginning to dislike it.
The geosphere on it's own is a simplicity that is also complex. One of the neato things about it was that it is either the only or one of a few full complete geospheres in the world. With the wand on it the "wholeness" of it is taken way. You no longer forcus on the complete structure and focus on the wand, which ios now beginning to fade if you look at the colors it is starting to show some age.

Hmm, you make a good point. Now ya got me thinking .

While I won't call it dumB (sorry, couldn't resist the spell check there  ), at least it's not the pink cake which I liked for the time it was there, but thank goodness it wasn't permanent.

I know the wand (and) stars will come down...

Great news.

Now leave the ball alone!

P.S. I love the retro avatars of the first two posters (Alien Encounter, the "crystal" monolithic entryway sculpture). Now notice my avatar. Good stuff - gone forever.

Like I first posted a few months back...
there is a movement inside Epcot to remove the wand before it's projected 2008 removal.

They have a new, fantastic system for projecting onto the sphere, but are unable to use it.

Time will tell...

I am very tired of the wand too, but...I would rather see those hideous (no offense to anyone who has left a photo) walls of photos at the entrance of Epcot. I miss the fountain being the center of attention with the beautiful flowers, etc. Now those giant "rocks" seem like an unfinished project at the base of SSE. The pictures aren't even very clear.

It was awesome for 2000 and the 100 Years of Magic, but now that the 100YOM is (slowly) winding down, I think it's time for it go. It looks good, but I miss the way it originally looked, and new generations shouldn't be deprived of it. I agree that new lasers, color changes, etc, should be brought back.

the sooner the better for the wand to come down. its about time!

I would cry on happiness if the renamed it EPCOT center. it just sounds so much cooler

Well, I'm artsy, so when you put it that way...

But I guess that the wand could be just like a nice frame, accentuating the huge golf ball art sculpture that is Epcot!

...I'm trying here.
