Spaceship Earth gets ready for wandless

No...

Anyway, coudn't the Wand/stars be taken down between times the park is open? I mean late at night like 3:00 in the morning. The structure does not seem that permanent.

Sorry but I must say it... It's pretty sad when you spell dumb wrong.

Seriously, the wand has got to go. It's overstayed it's welcome. Once it is gone then we can focus our attention at removing the sorcerer's hat from MgM so we can actually see the Chinese Theater again! :D

No No ... I have the solution for Spaceship Earth. Change all of the outside pieces of Alcoa (something like that) to a see through material that you could only see through at night. During the day they would appear reflective. Then at night when reflections of earth ended, you could start the spaceship earth light show. All of the clear panels would light from underneath with different colors and there would be music and the fountain would occasionally go off and folks would hang around outside mouse gear and the camera store and the pin station and buy stuff and it would seem like the ball was saying goodbye.

whew.

Its kinda funny how men and women have such different views on the whole wand thing. As expected, I think most women "just dont get it" which is unfortunate. Epcot is about dreaming of the future and celebrating diversity in a really creative and inspiring way. This does not jive with "cutesy". That dang"wand" cheapened the whole thing, I hated it from the beginning (although just for one year for millenium - ahhhhhhhhh ok). Hopefully they never put it back up, atleast until the next millenium 996 years from now.

I love it, so I don't want it removed, but it should be relocated somewhere else in MGM.

Oh, and TestTracker, I'm thrilled that you're a Tar Heel fan, as UNC is where I call home (except the summer)!

epcot center. just sounds like some kind of museum, not a theme park in the future.

You see son ... museums are fun ... for people with BRAINS ! Now EPCOT is a museum in which you actually get to "live" the fun. Even better.

EPCOT Center is the original name and I enjoy it that way. And I will always spell it EPCOT because it is an acronym.

Nice MJL :)

I am a woman, and I don't like it... I really get perturbed when people genralize the genders. Why wouldn't a woman understand creativity and diversity?

If Epcot returns to EPCOT Center, then maybe Celebration should be renamed EPCOT City (of course then Disney would have to find a way to keep tourists from wandering into people's homes)

P.S. I love the retro avatars of the first two posters (Alien Encounter, the "crystal" monolithic entryway sculpture). Now notice my avatar. Good stuff - gone forever.

I'm glad you liked it. I got that pic from another website and it's the best one I've seen. I just hate that my avatar is "retro". I wish it was more of a "current" avatar, but what can you do?

Back on topic. I agree that the sign was nice for the Millenium Celebration, but it has to go now. Imagine how mad people would be if the castle cake was intact 4 or 5 years after the 25th celebration. And IMO, the wand is 10x worse than the cake (I know I'M in the minority on that one though).

I think that SSE needs to lose the wand and have some hi-tech light show with lasers and/or the colors changing. SSE can be spotted from practicly anywhere in the park, at night I think if u use it as a projector of some sort it will work great and be very modern.

Pixie Duster, right after I posted that I had a small wave of guilt over how harsh it sounded ... of course there are women that can relate to EPCOT on the same level as men

GENERALLY SPEAKING, I think its interesting how the different genders relate to EPCOT; men fantasize about discovery and the "new frontier" , and women like the gift shops in world showcase.

Seriously though Im not really that big of a pig, what do you like about EPCOT past or present?

Yikes, dont you realize that for its time it was somewhat of an engineering marvel? Then some moron dreamed up the idea to take the ICON of Epcot and hoist a "Mickey Hand" on top of it totally erasing and cheapening the graceful simplicity of the whole thing. Obviously, many people here dont see the beauty in its original intended form.

its like putting ketchup on a filet ....

Um no offense, but you really do sound like a pig with the way you're generalizing this by genders. I said I had no problem with the wand because yes it looks nice by night and all, but mainly because geez it's just a wand. Yes I love the geosphere as it was and will eventually be again. In fact, it is my favorite icon. And contrary to your belief, I am not about the World Showcase gift shops, because hey I usually don't go in them. I am the first one to get excited about SSE and what it teaches us and what Universe of Energy teaches us, and what Horizons used to teach us before being demolished. I guess I'm like not much of a like girly girl, like ya know?

Women can also fantasize about discovery and the "new frontier," because I sure as heck do. Yes, the gift shops are nice, but I am not about just the gift shops.

Maybe I'm overreacting, but I think a lot of women on this board may find your remarks quite uncalled for, and maybe some men too I don't know. Whatever.

UGLY WHITE BALL??????????????

Give me a break. You honestly think that the cheap, tacky wand ADDS to the geosphere? I guess you are entitled to your opinion, but UGLY WHITE BALL? There's alot more to SSE than that.

BTW, it's Silver and not white

DDuckfan,

I really was only kidding, Im sorry if I offended you. Tongue-in-cheek is kinda hard to convey on a message board. There are TONS of brilliant and deep women in this world, and even if you arent brilliant and deep, thats OK too ... sorry again.:o

But dont you think that men and women GENERALLY come away with different impressions of EPCOT? <serious question>
