Ah wow... weird I was JUST saying to the hubs like an hour ago "we should find out when there is a launch and drive up"
I have always wanted to see a launch. You can see some form of something down here but pretty faint as I remember...
Well enjoy everyone, those things intrigue me so much :)

I'm really excited about it! A relative of one of my students will be on the shuttle so I will be videotaping the launch on TV to show to the kids on Friday. If anyone takes any pictures please send them my way! :)

It just so happened that during my October holiday to Central Florida, the Space Shuttle Discovery launched. I was at Universal Islands of Adventure on Tuesday, Oct. 23, with a close friend of mine and we saw it launch near the Hulk / Confiscos at 11:38 a.m.

My first-ever live launch viewing. Temps in the upper 80s, moderate humidity, before the rain ushered in the fall-like temps. It was quite impressive to hear the "boom" of the launch.

Here's the image. Enjoy!

My flight lands at MCO at 4:10 on the 6th. I hope that I can make it out of the terminal in time to see the launch. We saw a launch from Epcot once - I think it was Dec 2005. It was quite a sight!

My wife and I live in the north Orlando area but she works about an hour away on the coast and is about 5 miles from Kennedy and can see the Vehicle Assemble Building from her office. She says its a blast (literally) being that close. She says her building rumbles and she runs up to the roof.

Just by luck (because of launch delays) I've gotten to see a daylight and night launch. In the Magic Kingdom, go over near the elevator for Astro Orbitor and look toward Space Mountain. The shuttle arches over SM from R to L...I'm sure Disney put SM there just for that reason!

Your best vantage point at MCO would be the top level of the terminal-top parking garage. It's approximately 10 floors up.

When you get into the main terminal, you'll want to find the *central* elevators (not the ones near the escalators you use to go down to the baggage claim, which only service the three main levels.)
Go to the central food court, and then turn to either side and go down the hallway as if you were going out to where the ticket counters are. Along that hallway are the terminal-top parking garage elevators.

You can see them on page 2 of this map:

BTW, to the OP, thanks for mentioning this. I'm flying down there tomorrow morning and didn't realize there was a launch.

I'll be at work, so unfortunately I'm going to miss it. But I've found that the pool area of the Contemporary is excellent. It launches just about directly over Discovery Island. Plus they make an announcement over the PA system with a countdown to the liftoff - it was a really nice touch.

I have seen it once from the world. We were walking into the Boardwalk hotel from the parking lot and everyone of the valets and bell boys were staring towards our right. Sure enough it then happened. I still tell my wife that it was one of the coolest things I've ever seen. And I can't even imagine what it would be like to be there on the coast for it.

Actually I'd loved to have been at the top of the VAB (Wire services & Orlando Sentinel get first chance) but the best i ever did was Astronaut Road.

Enjoy to all who get to view today!! This is a dream of mine.. I can't believe we're missing it by 2 days!! (I keep secretly hoping they delay it a couple days. LOL)

I really want to see a night launch!!

I was able to see the very first launch of the shuttle from Central Shops when I worked at the World all of those years ago.

You may have gotten your wish. The launch has been scrubbed today. I'm working the next few days so I won't get to go over to the coast to see the rescheduled launch.
