I don't get it.
Some here are claiming Disney is backing off a big SM refurb because "visitors will come to MK regardless of how its done".
Yet these same knowledgable sources claim that Disney is afraid that closing Space Mtn for more than 6 months will generate complaints...and possibly keep visitors away.
But I thought visitors would come, no matter what!?!?
I find it hard to believe a SM closure would make-or-break vacation plans. I guess even a tiny daily attendance drop would become significant when spread over a year, versus just 6 months. But I also assume a totally revamped SM would generate even more attendance upon re-opening.
As for "complaints", I don't understand the big deal. Disney gets complaints every day, mostly for things out of their control like rain and crowds. They're professionals. They can deal with it.
More important--- consider that most WDW visitors come once a year or LESS. So every day a new crop of visitors is filing a complaint (since by the time they come back again, SM will likely have re-opened.) What difference does it really make whether City Hall is bombarded for 6 months or 12 months or 24 months. Disney still angers the same number of people every day, and its always different people.
The fact is, if its your once-in-a-lifetime trip, you're gonna be mad SM is closed. But why is Disney OK with angering the January visitor, but will cut corners to appease the June visitor (who will benefit from a shorter 6 month closure)??
I just find it hard to believe that closure length is dictating the SM rehab. My guess will always be $$$$, not complaints.
