Space Mountain/Tomorrowland Transit Authority update...

That plywood form is probably for a fountain and a seating area. Look at the height of the form and also its width, about 24 inches high and about 16 inches thick after the concrete is poured. That is a perfect size to sit on, and almost certain to be used for guests to rest while waiting for others to ride SM.

I shot these earlier today (Thursday). Thought I'd share, for what it's worth ...

It's really hard to tell the scale, but to me it looks like the poured wall would only be about 8-10" thick.

It could be capped with a thicker ledge.

And has anyone made a comment about the oddness/interesting-ness of the font on the sign inside the Mountain making it look like it says "Re-launching Winter 2889"? (Or does it ACTUALLY say 2889?)

The round edge could be for a planter rather than fountain... though it's location is not far from where the skyway waterfall was...

here is a photo I took this afternoon of the sign, click for larger:

While part of me is sad the vintage sign is gone it's good that Space Mountain now has consistent logos throughout.

I REALLY like the new sign, I just wish the blue paint on the building matched up alittle better...

Hopefully this will be a fountain with seating around it.

I fear it will be just a planter with seating however. Not that having an other planter to brighten up the area wouldn't be nice. But with the pipes that must have been close by from the Skyway waterfall it would have been nice to put a fountain there.

I like the idea of a fountain too. But it would also be nice if the brought back the original astronaut sculpture too. Or even a combination of each. In any case, I have a sense this refurb is going to be fine.

Are the old orange signs further inside the mountain still there or have those changed to green too?

As to the new sign? I like the green and I've never minded that font at all. I don't actually want retro on space mountain. I want that to be the most futuristic forward thinking ride in Tomorrowland.

If it turns out the circular basin is going to be a fountain. I hope they would make it sort of like the planter at Disneyland's Tomorrowland Terrace stage. The pylons mimic the design of Space Mountain's spires. :lookaroun

I would love a combo of fountain and some "outer space" sculpture JT.

Any pics of old sculptures they used to use?

By the way, Expo Seeker40 love the 1964 NY Worlds Fair avatar.

Maybe put a sculpture like that and a fountain like for the '64 NY Worlds Fair with the relflection pool etc!
YES!

Does it looks like a Mini SM?

Maybe they will do something like that little Temple in DAK that mirrors EE.
