Space Mountain "Starry-O-Phonic" Sound

So, apparently people on this forum notice everything, except what they have begged for and talked about for months. Space Mountain now has on-ride sound. It may not be in-vehicle, but it is still pretty amazing and adds to the experience greatly. In addition to the ambient electronic-rock soundtrack, as you pass nebulae, you hear whooshing sounds coming from its direction, as you make high speed drops, turns, and banks, dramatic sounds are also heard-in near perfect timing. I did notice last week that the Alpha track's audio seemed to be louder than Omega's, but they will likely correct that soon. Great job, WDI!

***Correction*** Sorry for not noticing that it had already been discussed. I still would like to congratulate WDI on doing an amazing job, and completing the so-called "botched" refurb.

They did do a good job. I use to HATE space mountain. it was too scary for me. but hearing the audio (which you're going to get attacked on how long ago it was added) made it less scary for me and now i love space mountain.

It has been noticed and talked about A LOT, maybe you should use the search before posting?

This debuted in August last year, or are you referring to something new since then?

unless they've improved it since August it isn't that much of an improvement. The sound was barely audible at times, when it was it ran into the competing arrangements from other speakers around it. While I guess it was better than nothing, it was nowhere near what people wanted which was onboard audio like DL and Paris have.

Yes. I could hear the music better when I was waiting to board than when I was on the ride itself.

Starry-O-Phonic whatever = much ado about nothing

It was great on August 30th when it debued. Since then it seems to have gone downhill.

That is how a lot of things maintenance related at WDW now. They start out great because everything is brand new and a lot of people are working on during the beginning, once it gets turned over to maintenance that is when it goes downhill.

Before, when a project was complete, there was plenty of spare equipment that came with the project, now there isn't, if it breaks then they have to repair it or order a new one. But that costs money, so it is easier just to turn it off or wait until it really gets noticed because of alot of problems.

My wonderful wife does not like rides like this, I told quite a big lie just to get her on this ride her first time in 2006, and from then on she did not trust me about rides unless she could "see" them! Even with this now new system and refurb...I will still ride it!

I went on it several times during the few days after it premiered and it was a very good addition. If rumors of the quality dropping are true, I'll be disappointed.

I don't think this brought Florida's version to the same level as California's version, but it was a more substantial improvement than the actual refurbishment.

Yesterday I rode 5 times as the lines were so short in the afternoon. Three out of the five times the music could be heard but the other two times it was there but very quiet. It does add to the attraction for me when it works, it makes ot feel even faster than without.

Each ride was on Alpha as Omega was only being used for Fast Pass.

I don't understand why the music is so quiet. Well, I kind of do. The song is actually divided into three sections during the ride. If it were too loud, the song and sound effects would all mesh together and just sound like noise. But surely it can be louder than it is?

When I rode it in December, it seemed like the music was missing in some places or the volume was lower. It was a little bit different from when I rode it in August for sure.

It's not an onboard soundtrack, thus it fails along with the rest of that "refurb."
Congrats WDI on doing the best you could with what you had.
Boo management, you get what you pay for...in this case, mediocrity.

When I last rode it, I though the off board music was very underwhelming. It just sounded like distant muffled music and didn't add very much to the experience at all. The only effect I thought was worth it was the "swirl" sound effect near the end.

While i am indeed glad offboard music was added, it is in my opinion still far inferior to Disneylands Space Mountain. The onboard audio is such a HUGE addition to the overall ride experience. Every time I hear that musical score on SM in Disneyland it just gets me. Come on WDW...get your act together!

When there in Thanksgiving, it worked amazing for the 12 rides we had over 2 weeks. It was overall an amazing transformation of the ride. Eliminating the stars and glow walls on the vehicles while adding the audio an projection effects was a perfect transition. It paid off on both the ride itself and the Peoplemover.

People screaming has been toned down with all the new interaction. The ride is MUCH darker. I hated the old ride, and the new ride has become a great overall experience.

Sorry if some are underwhelmed, but the DL speakers blasting in your ears are way cheezy and take away from the ride. This enhances the experience. DaDumDaDum= Silly. I will say Ghost Galaxy is REALLY FREAKING COOL though. The music is much more appropriate and the "look this way" while you "turn this way" messed me up pretty bad my first trip.

I give the rehab a MAJOR thumbs up. And as you say Lee, without beig able to replace vehicles or the track, I cannot imagine a much better job being done.
