Space Mountain set to reopen Nov 22 2009 and TTA closing dates

I'll voice the question that everyone is asking.

How are we going to get the rumored substantial refurb (track/support replacement, load area, new cars, audio, etc.) that replaced the rumored cleaning and maintenance only refurb that replaced the rumored unkown extent of the refurb that replaced the original grand plans for a complete rebuild of SM a la Disneyland's...

...in seven months?

Maybe they will actually bust butt this time.

Maybe they are doing the refurb in two sections, trying to keep the attraction open for the holidays? Perhaps the track first, followed by some of the more cosmetic upgrades.

I know, wishful thinking. But it might happen.

Maybe.

I'd love to see what Lee, Marni, and WDW1974 have to say about this. If these dates are firm dates, then I don't expect anything major. Typical lately.

After all that has been said on here about what might happen, I cant see how they can do it in 7 months, unless they've stupidly cut the refurb down all of a sudden... But it is 4 months for the TTA, which makes me wonder if it will lay empty and untouched while they cant use it because of the work, or weather they'll use this time well.

Agreed

Shame both will be down for our trip though, AKL!!!

Whatever date they want to throw out is fine. That one has been out for weeks, even passed on to travel agents some time back.

Nothing I hear would lead me to believe that it is likely. I'm still hearing it will be closed into 2010.

We'll see...

I suppose it is possible to do all that work in that amount of time...but, wow....that will be some crazy overtime!

Since I am not a Space Mountain fan, I am sad that the TTA will be down during the length of our visit. That was a favorite of ours :(

I was expecting the TTA to be down as well, it was just a question of when the closure would happen.

But I do hope the November date is nothing more than a carrot from PH to lure folks into booking their trips for December.... and an announced expansion of the down-time will come in the early fall.

I am with you on the TTA... it is a favorite just to pass some time in a relaxing fashion. With both down, we may not pass through TL much during our trip in May.

But SSE was supposed to be closed well in to 2008...

When I first saw the dates I was concerned that the rumored overhaul couldn't be complete in that time frame but then I think it's one of two things;

1. They have done this one already in DL so maybe with overtime they can bust it out, which is what they are thinking, so it can be ready by Christmas, which would be a nice marketing ploy ...

OR ... the more likely scenario

2. They are just using that as a jumping off point because they said it was "tentative" ... and realistically it will be pushed back ...

I know I am just summarizing what has been said earlier but my point is this ... I don't think we can worry about them downgrading the extent of the refurb yet because there are still options AND we really don't know what's going on yet ... so better not start worrying yet ... I have faith that this will turn out to be something strong, especially considering they don't have much else going on right now ... a BRAND NEW Space Mountain would be a nice big thing to market during Christmas.

Like Lee said, unless they are gonna pay massive amounts of overtime, it'll be longer.

Of course they could just get CPs to build it...we don't get overtime.

or 3. They don't want an officially-announced refurb to adversely affect holiday bookings, so they throw out 11/22 as a tentative opening date. On 11/21, they will change the date to 11/30. On 11/30, they will change the date to 12/14. On 12/14 they will change the date to 12/23. On 12/23...

I'm just kidding, they would never do anything to intentionally pull the wool over the eyes of their paying customers. :lookaroun

Well, Lets not forget, with Disneylands SM - it was a "sudden" (if you will) close. They found the track - for lack of a better term - broken - and had to shut it down sooner than they expected. They weren't ready for it to be rebuilt when it HAD to close.

From what I've been reading on here - Disney has already been in talks/ordered most everything (if all said is true). Sooooo, if the track is already made, and only has to be shipped - it could, a BIG could, only take them a few months.
Heck - look at Manta over at SeaWorld. It only took them, what, 3 months to put the track together (it started going vertical Sept 20th ish - and the last piece was put on Dec 12th). A roller coaster CAN be put together rather quickly if all the parts are already there, waiting to go.
And you already have the ground work done for SM - soo, it is possible, I would say for it to be done in Nov.

Of course, we all know how things can and usually do go... :brick:
Pretty much a wait and see timeline now...as I see it.
