Space Mountain Refurb?

Would it not be a pretty simple and fast remodel as the damn thing is in the dark.... All they have to do is reinstall track.... Shame they did not do this.

i assume that the dome has an internal crane mechanism... would be difficult to roll a portable crane in there and get it to the proper angles

Identical layout. Just state of the art as opposed to back breaking. Like what was done in California in 2003-5 just before theirs collapsed.

And if you've ridden California's or Hong Kongs you know what a great experience it is.

Add onboard and offboard audio, new visual effects and exterior lighting plus a real overhaul of the pre and post shows and you can see how much it was butchered.

I rode at DL for the first time in January. I have absolutely no use for WDW's Space Mountain after that experience. The two can't even be compared. Can't wait to go back to DL!

The spray paint markings from 2008 can still be seen today where the structure would have been cut up to be replaced.

It could and should have been amazing. Such a waste.

Any talk of a track replacement in the future? Also, if they had gone forward with the new track, would it have had rockets with side by side seats, or single file like they are now?

Single file. Just using 35 years worth of development to produce smoother curves.

The project is shelved for the foreseeable but the current track won't last forever.

I just hope when the time comes to replace the trace, they don't replace it with a shortened version. I love the unique layout of the ride. The way it's intertwined and all over the place is so neat.

The 2009 Space Mountain (lack of) refurb demonstrates perfectly everything that was/is wrong with the Orlando management team. What was a necessary refurbishment from a safety, infrastructure, and show standpoint was whittled down to a sham.

I just hope Pirates isn't going to be a similar debacle; the news of the shortened refurbishment timeframe is not encouraging.

Lets pray we don't have a Disneyland SM incident with the track because Holmes and his team were too cheap to do it right the first time.

When I was down there two weeks ago it seemed like every day it was down for a few hours. It was evacuated before I could get on it my first day. That being said, Omega rocks. But I would like to see a change soon.

Nothing is a fast remodel.
I have to imagine they are painting the inside of the cue and other guest areas. The paint has gotten pretty beat up. there's also a heck of a lot of maintenance and the track probably needs to be X-rayed to check for cracks (theres another method involving a magnetic charge and magnetic powder but I forget what it's called) due to it's age.

Rode this with the lights on back in 1983. Coolest thing ever. No interest in doing that again now. I don't need to see how old and rickety it has become.

Whoever mentioned the linear launches is dead on when it comes a time to replace it. Multiple smooth take offs and so on. An improved take on the outdoor Manta at Seaworld San Diego
