Space Mountain Refurb?

Here's hoping the entire ride system fails and collapses onto itself (while no riders are present) and forces Disney to re-do the attraction. I used to love Space Mountain but I hate what it has become now, I think a modern re-creation of Space Mountain would be so awesome!
Redo the entire attraction? As much as I love the idea, I'm scared that they would turn it into a giant Meet & Greet.

I heard that fp+ was all booked up on Friday, April 24th anybody care to comment?
That's the message it gives me when I try to book one, but I'm wondering if they are just holding the passes that day in case they need an extra day? Does anyone already have a fp for that day?

We have a trip planned for the week of April 15. Over that week we had Fast Passes set for Space Mountain on a couple of days. We just received notification that "due to a change in operating schedule" our fast passes are no longer available for both dates.

Has anyone heard that Space Mountain will be closed that week? My apologies if this has been posted elsewhere.
Could this be for some type of temporary overlay/promotion for the new "Tomorrowland" movie?

It's a 4 day mini refurb focused on the track, that's pretty much it.
So, that's really not much time to do anything else but grease up the tracks and tighten some bolts..So, also probably doesn't have to do with the closed arcade/transformation.

seriously the timing on the reentry tunnel has been off for decades...usually firing after you are almost out of it... Seems like that would be an easy fix that would add so much more to that part of the ride... They manage to time all the effects in the Disneyland version perfectly... This should be easy...
And yeah...Something for the people mover to see would be great.... I understand they enclosed the Queue area...but what about just coming up with some sort of settings specifically for the TTA...

not only that but the people mover through it is horrible, they literally now leave you in pitch dark through the entire inside, not one effect is turned on, you cant see anything, not even shooting stars anymore up above on the ceiling. whats happened
I took my little brother on the PeopleMover and told him we were going to go inside Space Mountain. He was pumped. And then we sat in the dark for like a minute and he asked me if it was broken. It was a depressing moment.

yes its horrible show compared to what use to be. sticking people in pitch blackness the whole way through is pretty bad, it even seems like a safety issue to me. First they took away allowing riders to see into space mountain by adding walls, and now they have every light and effect shut down with no stars or lights of any kind, pitch dark.

If they were afraid of light getting into Space Mountain due to the PeopleMover, they should have fully enclosed that portion of the PeopleMover and put in something of interest. The pitch blackness is off-putting and claustrophobic.

Of course they're doing a refurb, with the movie coming up they need to add a few George Clooney animatronics and a Hugh Laurie projection.

Or gut the track and start over?

At this point, just gut the whole interior and start over. Imagine what could be done with all that space <pun intended> and modern technology with linear induction. In my minds eye, I could see a star tunnel acceleration via LIMs leading to a parabolic climb and drop providing weightlessness across the top of the dome all accompanied by a Giacchino soundtrack with projection effects flying by you in the darkness. Basic layout would consist of as many floating camelbacks as possible in the middle of the structure with the turns on the outer edges. The biggest Space Mountain dome could be home to the best version of the ride.

Sorry... lapsed into a momentary loss of expectations for the resort.

I'd be content with a fully functional variant of the 1975 attraction that doesn't need to be trim braked to keep from busting welds in the track.

I think if they did do a complete gut and redo, we would end up with an even shorter cliff notes version...probably 90 seconds or less... I hope they leave it alone for now...
track wise...add audio, add some new show scenes....redo the exit ramp adding a more engaging story... Create show sets for the people mover to make the ride through space exciting...a real preview of what's to come...that would all be great...
