I love the idea if done right. If people didn't do these things we wouldn't have the last two Batman classics.

Except Nolan can direct, which makes the last two Batman classics. McG can't direct his way out of a paper bag, and Terminator was another example of that.

I dont think so. I'm pretty sure that if Disney decided to remake 20,000 Leagues Under The Sea, they would want their classic submarine design to remain intact. And they would hire a director who would want to retain that design too.
