A step backwards.

Typical.
It just doesn't even seem like they are trying anymore. It a massive downgrade. Why are the lights so bright? Takes your right out of the moment. Does anyone know what the point was in removing the walkway? Seems like costcutting 101 to me. Even though I understand taste is subjective, I'm kind of pondering how anyone could think this looks good?

I think people fell on them a lot more than would a simple walkway. Blame the insurance underwriters.

That they save on maintenance costs is a bonus.

Is there a possibility that part of this will become the entrance?
I dont think that would be feasible...it already has a great entrance that does not need replacing...Though I do wish it were still like the original entrance with the educational Space Portals and the living sound of the future...

They could at least give it the same aesthetic as the entrance.

It’s such a clashing of themes. In one area you are at retro 70’s 80’s sci-fi, the other is boring 2018 airport breezeway.

It is neither grand or cheap. It is doing its job.

Question, what is the point of an exit?

Answer, to get people out.

The new exit gets people out orderly and safely, no more lingering around by people who like to look at themselves on camera or play with the off ramp. I am sure county inspectors and EMS inspectors are very pleased with the new exit.

Also, how can one be perceived cheap if they spent money changing the infrastructure of an exit? As someone who runs a commercial general contracting company it wasn’t a cheap renovation.

I generally try to stay positive, and really this isn't a big deal. But there was just a little bit of extra magic for me getting on that speed ramp and feeling just a little bit of bounce. Like you were suddenly someplace where the gravity was just a little bit lower than earth.

So give me a torch.(j/k)

I am laying it on pretty thick here, but by looking at the pictures there was concrete breaking to be done, an existing elevated moving walkway to be demoed, electrical demolition and new work, HVAC demolition and new work, new concrete, structural steel, paint, carpet, drywall and other miscellaneous work. On a normal commercial project, I would place the cost between $150,000 and $250,000. At Disney, I would double the cost. All for egress. How is that considered cheap? Is it because there isn’t a new animatronic there? It’s a tight space without the sizing to accommodate a themed exit.

But if some.of the atmosphere is lost and the courtesy of a few minute walk just.to get.to the gift shop is lost, than it is not an exit at a Disney Theme Park.

So, in terms of cost, I will not pretend to know the numbers but even an expensive rennkvatuon can be cost saving if maintenence was bad. An investment.

At the end of the project it is the impact that matters. Which in this case a severe downgrade in atmosphere and courtesy.
