Every team has players that flop on the ground and yell at the opposing players, that's not just Ghana. And if it wasn't for a hand ball where the guy blatantly swatted at the ball, not an unintentional one, then Ghana would have won the match 2-1. If someone swats at the ball in basketball to knock the ball out of the net before it goes all the way through, a foul is called the points awarded. That beautiful shot by Ghana got discounted instead and then yes, they choked on the penalty shot, but with a penalty shot, there's still a chance for the goalie to stop it when he wouldn't have previously.
You are right...but not to the extent Ghana and the other African teams do it. They were actually told before the World Cup by FIFA to tone it down...it's a known problem with the African teams.
As far as the hand ball, those are the rules. It's happened before, and it is going to happen again. The basketball analogy isn't quite the same...we are talking about awarding around 2% of the total amount of points in a game. I think a far better analogy is in hockey, where a defensive player uses his hand to play the puck in the crease to keep it from going in the goal. In that case...a penalty shot is awarded, nothing more.
Not only that, but just about every person watching who had seen Abreu take a PK before knew he was going to chip it. That is all the guy does. Terrible scouting by Ghana. I mean seriously...four or five people in the bar started yelling he was going to chip it.
