Soundproofing

Does anyone have any personal experiences with the soundproofing at POFQ and Beach Club? When we went in February we stayed at CBR and the soundproofing was horrible there. The people next to us would come home at 1:00 in the morning and wake us up every night. They weren't being excessively loud, just talking in normal voices, but we could hear every word they were saying as if they were in the same room. We are starting to plan for next year and don't want to have the same problems again.

Hey we went through the same thing at Poly a few years ago, I guess a big suite was above us or something because all night you would every night hear all this yelling and hollering and of course LOUD music. I felt like I was in a college dorm or something lol

it depends more on the neighbors. had no problems at poly, POFQ, POR, or all star sports. Just let the front desk know of the problem

I would say that this is true. I have not had any problems with this either. Not even staying close to the main pool. I have heard about problems at ASSports before but we stayed there once and had no problem, but there were no cheerleaders around either.:)

I don't recall any major problems at CS, but once in awhile you can hear people walking/running/talking as they go back to their rooms, nothing major. I don't remember being able to hear anyone in the next room.

I never stayed at POFQ or the Beach Club so I don't know about those ones.

I noticed noise more in the neighboring room at AKL - a deluxe - than at CBR or POFQ. I agree it depends a lot on the neighbors. I'd be interested in hearing from those staying at the upper-end deluxes whether their walls are any thicker. I don't think AKL or WL are any different from the moderates.

Tricks of the Trade:
If you have a room with an adjoining door.... open your door and place a towel or two on the ground between the doors and close the door. Sut your bathroom door when you sleep as well.

As for which is better POFQ or BC? It's said that because the exterior facing doors have weather stripping and a higher amount of insulation, the noise heard from OUTSIDE of the rooms is "less" then compared to some deluxes.

Majority of times its just due to your neighbors though which is out of your hands. It's hard when you have so many families on so many different schedules, but it's bound to happen. Try asking for a corner room if you book POFQ, on a higher floor.

I've measured the soundproofing at every WDW resort using a digital sound meter, a CD player and a copy of The Who's Greatest Hits, as part of our research for the book.

The value, moderate, and DVC resorts do far better than the deluxe resorts when it comes to soundproofing. I would expect POFQ to be better than Beach Club.

One point to consider: if you have a noisy neighbor, you're going to hear them at virtually every resort. (The DVCs would still perform slightly better than average.) There's just not a great way to avoid that, other than asking for a room completely out of the way, in the hopes that no one is next to you.

The reason why Disney might not do that is that, for efficiency, they try to keep blocks of rooms occupied, so the housekeeping staff can just go room to room, and cut down on their transportation time. Just a hunch.

Heh, Len, I was just about to paraphrase your own research. Damn, now every time I talk about something I read in the Unofficial Guide, I gotta be double-sure I didn't screw something up in translation (no excuse, since I only read and write in English, but my mind likes to change words around, which is why I get arrested every time I volunteer for Storybook Hour at my local library).

Our family has been pretty lucky in the noise department. The only thing we can come close to complaining about is All Star Sports. We stayed in the football area and it got loud at night when the kids were playing on the field. Other than that we have been lucky. I second the whole "it depends on your neighbors" theory. The best medicine may be some of those squishy ear plugs.

the only annoying noise we really experienced at Port Orleans was from the toilet in the room above, it did seem to be very loud, it was so often through the night too, it seemed as if they were flushing the toilet just for the sake of it,

When we stayed at Pop it was so quiet, we couldn't sleep. I am going to take the laptop in next trip and put some music on. I don't like it being loud by any means, but I can't seep when I can hear myself breathe.:snore: :snore: :snore:
