Sorcerer's Hat... What's the point?

Disney IS a business, period.

Sorry, both are staying--they don't have to go.

Yes, Disney is a business, just as the Washington Mounument is just stone, the Grand Canyon is just more rock, and the cross is just a place where Jesus died. Not to drag religion into this, but the fact is that Disney holds itself to a higher standard than other businesses. Back in the day, they cared about the people, and that will bring in the money, not on-ride photos and plush.

As for the hand and wand, why don't they? They add nothing to each park, and if anything, have made them look worse due to bad maintainance and poor positioning. As I said before, place the hat infront of Animation and tear down the wand.

What do you find so freaking wrong with the wand? Is it because it is being added on to Epcot's symbol? I see nothing wrong with its positioning or its color or whatever.
Did you remember to wish upon a star Negative Nancy?

Hey! I'm a guy, so atleast call me Negative Nick. ;)

As for the wand, yes, I don't like it for two reasons:

1.) It is always fading and blotchy when I go
2.) It dosn't flow with the rest of the Future World or Epcot theme

Sure, it was great for 2000, but now it's pointless.

Some negative comments here on this thread..

What is so wrong with wand/hat? I think they had so much more magic to the parks, and to me it doesn't take away from the theme...And trust me, they are there to stay.

I love the hat at MGM... I just don't like it's location within the park. It used to be awesome to walk into the park and see the chinese theatre down the street. Now it's hidden behind the hat. Even if they moved the hat toward the entrance a little it would be better. Or even right outside the entrance.

Uh. No, I think I'll call guys Negative Nancy also, as Cartman likes to do so. Well, Kyle at least. Or maybe Negative Ned.

What do you mean by fading and blotchy? I understand that it may be pointless, and I don't mind it. I even like it. I'm not trying to change your mind or whatever. I don't care what you think. I mean, I was sort of surprised when I first saw the wand up on the golf ball, but I didn't mind it. The only think that I don't really like is that it says Epcot next to the wand. Most people come to know Epcot by just seeing the ball. Oh well.

Wal-Mart holds itself to a much higher standard than Disney. That is why Wal-Mart is number 1!:D

Your argument is seriously flawed.

Shouldn't that be a lack of rock?:)

Really? I thought Wal-Mart was #1 by buying large volumes of stock that is going to be discontinued or doesn't move in other outlets, so they can get a lower bulk price than other retailers. And the unwary customer sees a lower price, and buys it not doing any research into what they are really purchasing.

Or is that why you posted all the smilies?:animwink:

You're thinking about Big Lots!:animwink:

My theory is that Wal-Mart is causing the downfall of modern civilization. (Just don't tell anyone I was there to buy a battery for my car this afternoon!)

Anyway, back to the discussion.... I don't mind the hat too much, but it would have been nice if it had some actual purpose. They could have put in something interesting, like a small walk-through attraction of some kind, instead of putting in an icon for the sake of having an icon.

Spaceship Earth on the other hand (sorry for the pun), used to look better before they erected the hand thing. The structure by itself was aesthetically pleasing, and the addition just seems to throw it off balance in my opinion.

Besides being an icon, the hat is also a Pin Trading Center. But I agree, it should have been some sort of walkthrough attraction.

Whoa Whoa. Wait. They put a Wal-Mart in MGM and you're mad because it's blocking your view of the Chinese Theatre by selling Hats? That's Crazy.:hammer:

Sounds like this is just another way of saying, 'your not allowed to play in this sand box because I get scared when you do.'

Ever thought that was you issue and not those who have really absorbed the issues over the years?

Why are your opinions more valid than others GoofyFan? That's coming off pretty strong to me!:drevil:

I'm not saying my opinions are any more valid than anyone else's. I am saying that since I have been visiting this site I have heard nothing good about WDW as it stands now, from many of you. You all want the WDW you grew up with, without any progression. I've gone through the horrible Imagination thread, the dark ride v. the thrill ride thread, etc. and there is always the group that refuses to accept that WDW needs to change in order to bring people in. Otherwise this site would be nothing but a board of "Remember when WDW was still open?" site.

My other point was that many of you have a way of basting those who don't agree with your opinions on how WDW is now. Like I said, "I just want to share Disney with other Disney fans." I'm open to criticism just like the other guys, whether I have absorbed the issues or not, I'm in the sandbox. I'm not afraid to hear that WDW isn't perfect now, in your opinion, but maybe you should listen to other people's opinions on the subject.

All right, now EVERYONE's a Negative Nancy or Nick or whatever. Remember what I said before? Wish Upon a Star and everyone's dreams will come true. Believe in Gepetto!

To me, the hat looks manufactured and doesn't have any of that magic that WDW is famous for. It just seems so fake. I much prefer the other 'fake' ... I mean recreated environment of Hollywood that never was. I love that theme!:)

I'm not saying 'let's go back to when it was this and that' and try to relieve out childhood dreams...not at all.

I believe that that first and foremost an innovation must happen. Some cool thing Disney has to come up with (be it equivalent to AA or something else)...there just isn't enough 'new' stuff going on where you say, whoah...that was really innovative.

Some of us are bashing disney leadership because the leadership is treating the company like it would a soda company or clothing company.

But even then...you still have to have a product that sells. And, in my opinion, for the most part, the parks are selling...its the dreaded movies that have bit the big one over the last 7 years or so and instead of admitting "I don't know what the hell I'm doing" Eisner deflects and buys out ABC ESPN? He has to use an outside company like Pixar to create a hit for him? I mean, this makes no sense. Your concerned about your distribution channels more when you really should be focusing on your product...i.e. it sucks. All these sequels are appalling from a creative standpoint. Just come up with something good...even if its every 3 years. Why is that so bad? Why do we have to churn out trash every 6 months? Its just a joke right now, their entertainment division....I'm sorry, I have no sympathy for people that don't see the problems with Eisner's leadership in that area. And guess what, 43% of people out there agree. That's huge.

Stock prices have fallen...he just was removed from the board. Talk about not knowing when to 'fold' them.
