Sorcerer's Hat... What's the point?

I've seen that t.v. at circuit city...they have a princess version as well. MKT...be honest, how long were you eyeing that one instead? j.k.

I'm going to disagree with P.dixxie on these points: 1) Don't accept the notion that disney is loosing rights to an architectural work so readily. Your sounding green. If what you say is even remotely true, make sure and tell us when the Eiffel is torn down, because there must be rights for that too, it being all the more prominent an architectural icon.

2nd point of disagreement) Disney isn't a business like you so flippantly say. There is a strong contingent of folks who resent your attitude and the corporate attitude you align yourself with (Michael Eisner) as evidenced by last month's vote. That must mean a lot of people don't agree with Disney being run as a business huh Pixie?

3) I disagree that you can ignore the heart of a company (creativity and invention) and transform it successfully into a business endeavor. This is where you sound illogical: You think you can hawk old product or rehashed product (read: sequels) and pass it off as 'new' and people will buy into it. The pending closing down of disney stores only proves my point (you used to work at one right? is your store still open?)

You say to have faith...in what, whom exactly? Disney? Is there a Disney Jesus that I haven't heard about, or has yet to be made known? I'm really curious as to what you are believing in.

Now, for my two cents...That Epcot Sign has to go, and so does that Hat. There are many of us who see through the attempts of Corporate Disney as trying to be agreeable/intimidate us and take our money, yet all the while not realizing that all along we wanted to be pleased, which is a very different matter isn't it? It takes a creative visionary, and an inventor to do that for us, not an Eisner or other business tycoon type. And sadly the one that founded the company passed on years ago. If Disney still wants to be in 'business' Pixie, its going to have to put 'business' aside and put creativity first. And there are plenty of people who are capable for that role.

Amen. lol

I agree with everything 100%... yet I actually do like the hat... so I guess I don't agree with that. But everything else I agree with. I'd do anything to be CEO right now so I could fix the problems we have. lol.

you, me, and about a million other people!

I've love to be in charge over there...but I think someone like Marty Sklar could to a better job! Or someone else creative in imagineering who doesn't have a problem defending him/herself.

I love the old, fashioned Disney. I love the creativity and innovation it use to represent. Being a big business out to make a profit and being a creative business are not mutually exclusive. I do not understand why you think that just because I understand what a business is and what it's purpose is I automatically am some communist following Eisner's commands. The reason I say "have faith" is to say that things will get better. The hat wasn't the greatest idea. I can't stand sequels. I am sick of the same, old merchandise. But I just gotta believe that things will get better. I just gotta believe that Disney will go back to being the creative machine it use to be and that things will be as they should be: Disney making profit the non-WalMart way.

Both my nephews were overjoyed to see the hat at MGM, as they knew who's it was and it added to their excitment of meeting Mickey and being as they said "in his home"
one of them commented on the wand at SE along the lines of "that hand is so big it looks like god"
which was worrying if not somewhat true

but they are 6 & 7 and they love them, I love them too

so...ner :animwink:

Pixie,

I'm quite familiar with a pendulum.

I'd be curious to see when your pendulum swings to the 'other side'. I've been both places. For me it doesn't matter if Disney dies as a company or not.

It sounds like you are more in agreement with Disney than not these days. Is there a dark past your pendulum as swung out of which you are not telling us about? :) Have you ever been critical of Disney? As in, a big black spell?

nah... I was eyeing the bright yellow Nickelodeon Spongebob TV.....

but it had a cheap feel to it.

So I bought nothing.

And then my girlfriend said... "Rob, lets go get the TV" and I said huh?

So what youre telling us is that you swing both ways?

I just spent way too much time reading through these replys.

I don't understand why some of you continue to write on this site. It seems to me that no matter what Disney does it will not satisfy you. As I've stated other times, things change, deal with it. There must be a reason why Horizons, et al. were closed. Unless you have discovered a new form of economics, Disney must do what it can to stay a viable option for families.

As for last month's vote, I'm still not sure if you can read what you want into it. Yes there was a no-confidence vote in Eisner, but are you sure it means everyone that voted that way wants what you want? Many of the investors might like to see a return on their money, as well as support the creative side of Disney.

Everyone has an opinion about their ideal Disney. If you accept that, many of these posts won't sound so bitter and others might weigh in with their opinions. I think many of you scare people off because of your strong beliefs and willingness to tell people they're some sort of Eisnerbot if they like something as benign as a sorcerers hat or wand at the parks we ALL love.

When I joined, and yes I'm still new at this, I don't remember there being a prerequisit of only one opinion. Some of you may want to be a little more accepting of those of us who come here specifically to share Disney. I understand some of you have baggage from working at the parks, and others are stuck in the past, but remember that WDW is what each of us make it. It's magical whether there is a big hat in front of the theater or not. My kids smile when they see the hat. They could care less that it blocks the theater. To me that's what its all about!

While I appologize for the rant. I will not appologize for my WDW opinions. :)

I like the hat at Disney/Mgm.

It took a little getting used to though.

It makes a great backdrop for the live shows and Character meet and greets.

Makes for some great pictures.

Wow...so strong opinions are not accepted on these boards...wow...so only your kids count and not other people who've toiled and sweated hours over the years, screw them and their opinions.

Sounds like this is just another way of saying, 'your not allowed to play in this sand box because I get scared when you do.'

Ever thought that was you issue and not those who have really absorbed the issues over the years?

Why are your opinions more valid than others GoofyFan? That's coming off pretty strong to me!:drevil:

Listen, regardless of what any of us think...the hand/wand and the hat are staying. So I suggest everyone deal with it in your own way. I have come to accept the hat for what it is. As a previous 'poster' stated it added a Disney-esque icon to MGM. It's not any more out of place in "the Hollywood that never was" as a Castle is at turn of the century Main Street. So just enjoy WDW for all it has to give and don't let a hat get ya down :)

Thank you for your time.

..actually it has been reported around here from reliable sources that the hand and wand are going down in 2008, to be replaced by a crazy light system that'll make the Geosphere look like it's rotating at night or something equally cool like that.

...thank god.

You are all being negative negative people:eek: I like the hat, and I like the wand. If you don't like it, Deal. They probably will come down, like whoever said, and if they do, I'll deal. I, however see nothing wrong with them. Now if you're gonna be a negative nancy, I'll call you Negative Nancy. But have faith because if we all believe, Disney will turn around and get good. Probably around Xmas. With an Xmas Miracle.
And now, for a spontaneous burst into song.

When you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are
Anything your heart desires will come to you

If your heart is in your dreams, no request is too extreme
When you wish upon a star as dreamers do

(Fate is kind, she brings to those who love
The sweet fulfillment of their secret longing)

Like a bolt out of the blue, fate steps in and sees you thru
When you wish upon a star, your dreams come true
