See, look....I understand everything TLJ was trying to do. I get it.
I get it because it's...so juvenile and basic. Who COULDN'T get it?
The issue is...why did they want to hamfist it in that manner?
And, further, why did they feel it necessary to destroy previous icons without explanation. They already did it to Han, turning him into a deadbeat Dad in TFA...but, here we have TLJ...and Luke is just...terrible.
"oh, his death was so amazing"
No...no, it wasn't. He literally phoned it in.
And, I didn't even need to see the deaths of these characters to be invested in new ones. That is part of what makes me so angry. I LIKED Rey and Finn. I still do, to an extent. So, if your story is better, fine, tell that better story.
But, in the same breath they tell us to "forget the past", they tell us "we referenced the past".
All I can see is that Kennedy is not a true Star Wars fan, but rather, sees it as a property to exploit.
And, for a franchise that (like Star Trek) was kept alive literally by fan energy for decades...that...is dangerous.
Yes, we don't like the prequels, but there is a way to treat them well that makes them make sense (aka, Clone Wars)...
Dismissing the universe to try and shove some sort of messaging into the movies that doesn't belong...is clever...how?
Now, what would have been smart is if they'd made Rey turn, just a bit. That way her otherwise perfect character would be given an arch.
But, she didn't.
I, personally, would have liked them to have Rey kill Snoke, and she ends up being the "chosen one" from the dark side, and (extend the story from there) and flips, and Ren learns he was out of line, blah blah blah.
Something more than...Rey is perfect, we are amazing, love is everything, and now we have lost all our ships outside of the Falcon but, that is all we need...
They are literally left at the end of the movie with nothing...and Poe is blamed for losing lives, but how many lives were lost on those transports? (Oh, that is Poe's fault because he sent them on the mission...and through the mission they didn't think to scan for cloaked ships....because, reasons)
It's so friggin stupid.
It depends on how this movie does (rotten tomatoes reviews are much lower than I would have guessed) but a Maul sidestory would be so great
Interesting you mention New Jack City vs better made movies that told the same story.Agreee sooo much.
It was always an underdog story...but in empire and jedi a sleek, memorable (sans Ewoks) one that looked good across the age spectrum.
Now it’s just pathetic...bankrupt and garbage filled...nobody left.
It’s like how Star Wars would be in new jack city.
I agree. I will limit my responses here to that, moving forward. Because, all I intended to say was, I will not see this movie until it is "free" for me on Netflix, because I am boycotting it.Y'know, if people want to rant about the Disney made SW films (something that is perfectly reasonable), there's already plenty of threads to do that or you could actually make a new thread and have your way with it. It would be nice if people commenting in this thread actually watched the film in question and were talking about it -- positive, negative, whatever, but at least the topic at hand.
Again, if they had better stories to tell...why are they not telling them?I think that's a terrible idea myself. We've gotten plenty of Maul already in official canon media (I mean, in both Clone Wars and Rebels), and he just seemed unnecessarily forced into this movie. Having him be a crime syndicate leader doesn't even seem to make sense from what we know of him from the animated series.

I refuse to see Solo. I will not see IX. Not until there is a major shake up at Disney / Lucasfilm.
They did a lot of reshoots, and brought in Tony Gilroy to 'rework' the movie. Not quite what happened with Solo, but similar. Along with that, there were rumors (harder to find 2 years out) of R1 being 'lightened' to increase its appeal. Some of that is the cinematography, which is pretty dimly lit, adding to the ominous tone. I enjoyed that darkness. You know the back story of the plans. If somehow magic happens that disturbs the continuity with the plot of ANH, I would have been furious. They killed all the characters, what was the darker version of that film? (R1 is my favorite Disney SW film, I should add)
Was referring to this ‘too soon to release another Star Wars movie right after Episode 8: The Last Jedi in December.’ And ‘As we already detailed in the previous update, Solo‘s weekend prospects were dragged down by a maelstrom of fan negativity toward the concept and/or behind-the-scenes problems, as well as summer tentpole and Star Wars movie over-saturation (we just had Last Jedi in December).’ (From article)
Ant-Man & the Wasp comes out in JulyI dont know. We had what, thor out in November, black panther in February, infinity wars in April, and ant man in June, and of the 3 released, I believe all 3 are in the top 10 grossing marvel films, and the two more recent are at or near the top. I think the first 2 are correct, but replace oversaturation with the complete hatred of last jedi and people quitting on the franchise because of it.
What’s the difference if you see it now or after your dreams of a major shakeup come true.
The film won’t change lol.
