Pix presents: An Innovator Prompt Part One!!!

SYWTBAI Epcot 1.jpg

The Ocean Side

Queue:

This version of my two pronged ride (similar to Mission:Space with the orange line and the green line) will focus on the vast unknowns of our very own ocean. Therefor the queue for this side will be aptly decorated with both sci-fi style underwater tech, real life oceanography photos, and cartoony style nautical elements. As we reach the loading platform - a moving walkway that leads you on to doom buggie style seats decorated with glittering waves and ocean foam and small touch screens on the front similar to Spaceship earth - guests will then be transported underwater, but we won't find any mermaids here...

The Ride:

This side of the ride will start with a screen depicting a steampunk looking submarine docked at shore, and a steampunk looking gentleman explaining to you that this future is run on kelp power and underwater wind turbines. He then walks you through the mission you will be joining him on, a mission to check out the undersea colonies and how they are doing on this monthly check in.

As you move past that set of screens you will be slowly rotated backwards and the screen in front of you will draw your attention. The mission leader (the same steampunk gentleman from before) will then explain that on the way down he received a distress call and needs you to help fix the colonies air system. This will then cause you to rotate again to see a large Midway Mania set of movie screens that requires you to, on your mini screen, align the various pipe shapes in the correct order to fix the air system. Once that is done, the captain will direct you to view how this underwater civilization is living, with a full tour through the future, before returning you to land and thanking you for your help.

The Space Side

Queue:

This version of my two pronged ride (similar to Mission:Space with the orange line and the green line) will focus on the vast unknowns of our very own solar system. Therefor the queue for this side will be aptly decorated with both sci-fi style spaceships, real life constellation photos, and cartoony style planets. As we reach the loading platform - a moving walkway that leads you on to doom buggie style seats decorated with multi-colored glittering galaxies and small touch screens on the front similar to Spaceship earth - guests will then be transported out into space, but we won't find any aliens here...

The Ride:

This side of the ride will start with a screen depicting a cyberpunk looking spaceship docked outside ready to launch, and a cyberpunk looking teenager explaining to you that this future is run on the same hydrogen and oxygen we live with all around us, however chemists have figured out how to harness the power made from reactions to our own benefit. He then walks you through the mission you will be joining him on, a mission to check out the mars colonies and how they are doing on this bi-yearly check in.

As you move past that set of screens you will be slowly rotated backwards and the screen in front of you will draw your attention. The mission leader (the same neon and chrome clad kid... adult... who really cares sense he clearly knows his stuff) will then explain that this trip we are delivering new vegetable seeds to the agricultural team to test out. They have had much success with the potatoes and wheat, its time to try something new. This will then cause you to rotate again to see a large Midway Mania set of movie screens that requires you to, on your mini screen, help assign the new vegetables, carrots and corn, into the correct rows. Once that is done, the captain will direct you to view how this galaxtic civilization is living, with a full tour through the future, before returning you to land and thanking you for your help.

When will the podcast be? Just because I’m guessing the Elite Eight goes into a tournament bracket?

Also, will everyone go off of the same prompt or will each “matchup” have their own prompt?

Not exactly sure what time the podcast will be but I know I'll be doing it BEFORE I post my written reviews (which honestly might have to go by the wayside this one round given how busy I am getting ready for the trip...) Yes the Elite Eight will be done tournament style with the top six on the Leaderboard and two Wild Card picks. 1st place will face off against 2nd Wild Card choice, 2nd place will face off against 1st wild card pick, 3rd place will face off against 6th place, and 4th place will face off against 5th place. It will be the same prompt across the board (with the usual Purists/Innovators choice, of course)

And without further adieu, I present to you the official Elite Eight!

1. @Pionmycake 35 Points
2. @spacemt354 31 Points
3. @D Hindley 27 Points
4. @AceAstro 27 Points
5. @Disney Dad 3000 21Points
6. @kmbmw777 20 Points
7. @pixie_princess 4 Points (Wild Card Pick #1)
8. @DisneyManOne 16 Points (Wild Card Pick #2)

And let's give a big applause to the four people who competed but didn't make the cut.

9th Place: @Magic Feather 17 Points
10th Place: @tcool123 14 Points
11th Place: @JokersWild 7 Points
12th Place: @invadersam 2 Points

This leads us to the following match ups going into Project Nine
Pi vs. DisneyManOne
Pixie Princess vs. Space
D Hindley vs. KMB
Ace vs. Disney Dad

I'll post the prompt for Project Nine in an hour or so, but you can watch the podcast towards the end for a description of it. (Just need to eat dinner before I put the prompt down in written form...) Thanks to each and every one of you for making this season an unconventional but inspired success that very much accomplished my goal of a more refined and exciting take on the old school "seasons 1-4" format.

Also, just out of curiousity (I really don’t care, just curious. I am totally fine with the matchups), how was the tiebreaker between D Hindley and I for 3rd decided?

lol honestly I didn't even notice there was a tie until after I went off air. In all honesty though I think the middle match-ups are pretty evenly split in terms of skill/experience level so I don't think there's much of a problem either way :)

Just wanted to toss out there the last 4 projects I really haven't been able to be up to par with the level I strive to play at (basically half the season at this point). I would gladly give @Magic Feather my spot since that was a very tight call on who gets the last spot in the Elite Eight.

That being said, it's only if Magic Feather has the time to compete in it and would like to. If not, I'll hold onto the spot and still try to submit something this week so there is a match-up.

That's really nice of you, and of course with the less rigid elimination structure this season I'd be happy to allow for that. Of course we'd have to adjust the match-ups a little bit to reflect the current rankings with DisneyManOne going into 6th position, everyone behind Space moving up a position, and Magic Feather becoming the last wild card pick. If that were to happen the match-ups would come out to...

Pi vs. Magic Feather
D Hindley vs. Pixie Princess
Ace vs. DisneyManOne
Disney Dad vs. KMB

@Magic Feather, let us know soon if this is something you'd like to do. I'm fine with it either way. Now getting to the prompt...

Project Nine: That's Entertainment!
rc_rod.jpg

For this project you must take the idea of cast members going above and beyond their roles as live entertainers and use it as the basis for one of two unique entertainment-based prompts.

Purists: Your goal will be to create a one-man show for any Disney park or resort. This show must use only a single cast member and a musical instrument of your choice. The challenge will be to craft the show around the performers personality, use the location to your advantage, and create a memorable off the beaten path experience that adds just a little something extra to the Disney Magic!

Innovators: Your goal will be to take the essentials of the Purists prompt and use it as a jumping off point to design a brand new Disney World resort that's anchored by your entertainment act. This means essentially making your act the mascot of the resort and crafting the theme of the resort around their personality.

Due to my trip, I'm going to offer a little extra time on this one. Projects due Tuesday, March 6th at 11:59PM Eastern.

For the innovators prompt, the act has to be solo as well and use a musical instrument? Can we use an existing act? Not sure which I'll give a go at but wanted to be sure.

The musical instrument part is optional (for example you could do a one-man comedy show if you wish...) The bigger emphasis should be going above and beyond just somebody playing music, really "Disney-fy" the experience. YeeHaa Bob is my go to example. I'll allow the use of an existing act as long as the show itself is changed up. :)

@pixie_princess I'd prefer if you stick to the single instrument as it's part of the challenge of what this prompt entails. Again, the bigger emphasis should be on the personality of your performer and how they interact with the audience and actually put on the show outside of the music.

Does that also translate to the innovator prompt as well?

Yep. Again the bigger emphasis should be on the personality of the performer and making them larger than life, especially with the Innovators prompt where they have to serve as the basis for the entire resort. Just making sure you focus on the right things, even if just using one instrument might seem like a challenge :)
