INNOVATORS
Aside from the (very sad) Kali River Rapids, Disney World is greatly lacking a raft ride. In all 4 parks there is just the one and lets be honest, there is a 50/50 chance you come off dry as a bone. Seeing as Florida gets crazy hot this seems like a real let down. So for my proposal I am bringing a Rainbow Ridge inspired story to the east coast with a new raft ride.
Rainbow Ridge Rapids
Rainbow Ridge. A majestic sight to see. With beautiful luminescent caverns, babbling brooks that catch the sun just right, and a paleontologists dream field of bones, S.E.A. member Olivia Stone is obsessed. Recent college graduate and duel major in geology and paleontology she quickly heard about Rainbow Ridge from the society. Wildly curious about this worldly wonder she set up camp in order to study the reasons behind the colorful land as well as hunt down some bones. However, university debt is catching up to her and she doesn't quite have enough contacts to make this work. So, setting up a lovely river raft ride in this beautiful land to bring in tourists and fund her exploration? Piece of cake.
View attachment 264678
The Queue
This raft exploration ride is a unique indoor/outdoor experience that fully immerses riders into the otherworldly magic that is Rainbow Ridge. The queue takes you through Olivia's base camp. Tons of archaeology tools and a mini laboratory sit beside a modest tent where guests can sometimes hear the static filled radio playing songs and sometimes incoming reports from other S.E.A. members around the globe. Also throughout the queue are scattered pictures Olivia has taken of the landscape, and sometimes selfies with her dino buddy, aptly named Buddy. As guests enter the loading area we can hear Olivia herself give a very important safety spiel; she worked this hard to get here, she can not risk a lawsuit on top of student debt.
The Ride
The ride starts on a slow moving path that takes you into the first cave. Here the ride works almost like Pirates of the Caribbean except spinning slowly due to the circular raft. Guests will meander through the beautiful sights inside these caves. Stalagmites and stalactites fill the caves with a soft bioluminescent glow in a full rainbow of colors. In some areas keen eyes can see some of Olivia's science thing-a-ma-bobs from where she left off studying. Looking down, the bottom of the water is filled with glowing smooth stones that some will swear change color before your very eyes. After a nice liesurely ride through the first cave, the raft gets caught by a conveyor belt and taken up up up as the waters start to get a bit rough.
We then hear Olivia reminding us once again to hold on over our walkie talkie that she left in one of the backpacks, because this is where the waters get rough. Suddenly a moderate sized drop and the ride is out of the cave and rushing past beautiful rock formations and... rainbow geysers???
View attachment 264679
Yeah... rainbow geysers. Olivia wasn't joking about this weird land. However we don't get to think about that long as we rush down a trio of smaller drops and pick up some speed as we head for yet another cave. Inside here we slow down again once more and take in the beautiful Triceratops fossil half uncovered set into the cave wall. This must be Olivia's friend Buddy. However like most things in Rainbow Ridge, observant guests will notice under the high powered lights set up by Olivia, the dinosaur seems to almost shimmer with color.
[Redacted]
Sadly Olivia is worried about her scientific arch nemesis Chad James finding out about Buddy, so all pictures stay on site until she is documented and credited.
After guests exit the second cave they are taken on a wild ride once again down another small duo drops and around one last geyser... that despite Olivia reassuring everyone that the geysers are inactive, EXPLODES and gives anyone who might be feeling a little dry some love. Guests then head back to the camp, get apologized to furiously by Olivia over the walkie, reminded to keep all pictures away from Chad James, and thanked greatly for their donation to the sciences.
The Area Around
This ride will sit past the exit of Big Thunder Mountain as we cut into some space around Tom Sawyers Island. There will also be a cheesy homemade drink stand selling magic potions** made from the rainbow water** in a whole set of colors and packaged in science beakers. Olivia in no way condones this drink stand, however her undergrad assistant and best friend Haley assures her than its a good idea, and the drinks are tasty enough Olivia pretends she doesn't notice. Plus the extra money is nice.
**Note: not actually made from rainbow rapids water. Also not magic. Instead very sweet and you get to keep the tiny beakers.
@Disney Dad 3000, very inspired job. This was what I was looking for with mixing elements of the mythology of Discovery Bay into something unique. This land very much had a Gravity Falls vibe to it without having directly call that show to mind. The flow from Frontierland into Fantasyland would definitely come alive in this section. Props for having a solid selection of different ride experiences for all different age ranges. Even the coaster seems like something most of the family could enjoy and would be on the lower end of the Disney thrill scale in a good way. Almost a half way point in between Gadget's and Big Thunder. Details in the streetmosphere and dining definitely helped make this presentation pop. Solid work all the way around!

@Disney Dad 3000, great to have you back! This was definitely a unique a well executed project that leaned on the innovators side of things very nicely. One of the challenges with pitches for me especially having been involved with Disney staffing via the Walt Disney Family Museum is just how consistently you can maintain character based interactions with cast members, but I guess Galaxy's Edge will be the litmus test for that. Your proposal had a really cool atmosphere to it. It feels like it completes the rugged feel of Big Thunder Mountain and elevates the danger factor involved into a more modern context. This might sound like a weird comparison but it's almost like a good version of what a modern day Disney Lone Ranger concept could have been like, haha. Great job world-building with the town and queue. Realism is the biggest sticking point between the number of CMs and the relatively low capacity this would have with cycling people through and only having four people per ride vehicle. Overall though this project was definitely a stroke of originality!

Pionmycake presents an Innovators Prompt:
People Mover to New Horizons housed in the Progress City Pavilion
(Part 1)
View attachment 265472
The Concept to Horizons will return to Epcot with the People Mover to New Horizons! A new ride that will seek the capture the themes and spirit that made Horizons so great while also creating an exciting new experience that will delight millions. The station for the People Mover will be housed inside the Progress City Pavilion. Themed to an optimistic city of the future, Progress City will be a great look at what might be on our Horizon if we have the courage and creativity to work towards it. Inside will be a number of small shops, restaurants and exhibits. Plus, the Carousel of Progress will be relocated here with an updated show!
-------------------------------------------------------
-Introduction-
Horizons was a classic attraction and was considered by many to be one of the best Disney has ever made. It is remembered today as the quintessential attraction of classic Epcot. What exactly is it that makes this attraction so great? Well it brings together all the themes found throughout the rest of Epcot. Almost like an Avengers style crossover for the attractions and pavilions in the park (except it brings together ideas, not superheroes played by guys named “Chris”). It is the culmination of everything Epcot stood for. It accomplished this with two main sections in the ride.
The first part was a look back at the future of the past. A look at how previous generations viewed the world of tomorrow. How great minds like George Milies and Jules Verne saw the Horizon. This section tied in the theme of looking at the past to see where we might be going found in Spaceship Earth and World of Motion.
The second part is a look ahead at the future that might be. Taking all the science and ideas found at Epcot, horizons then speculated on an optimistic future where mankind uses these ideas to make life better for everyone. Sometimes in more fun sci-fi ways (Like a robot butler), sometimes in more grounded and realistic ways (like irrigation programs for the desert of Mesa Verde turning it into thriving farm lands).
The Progress City Pavilion and the People Mover to New Horizons will work together to capture these elements that made Horizons so beloved and incorporate them in new and creative ways.
-A Look back at the future of the Past-
The most similar part to the classic Look Back section of Horizons is the Hall of Future Dreams housed in the pavilion. It is basically a small walk through museum dedicated to dreamers who sought to imagine what the future might be. Of course, the new Carousel of Progress will also have the theme of looking back at the cutting edge of different eras and how the horizon has always been reached for by those that believe there is a great big beautiful tomorrow shining at the end of every day.
-A Look ahead at the Future that might be-
The future that might be is best represented by progress city itself. Guests will get to interact with and explore the city of the future in the pavilion. A well thought out and fully realized space full of small details showing what life is like and how things are better in this city built on the grand ideas found here in Epcot. Also, the People Mover will tour more of Progress City before going for its tour of the park. This will give guests and even better look at the tomorrow that might be just over the horizon.
-Culmination of EPCOT-
Of course, the most obvious way this project brings all of Epcot together is that the People Mover literally tours all of Epcot. Going past every pavilion and briefly discussing their themes before explaining how they come together to make the future brighter.
The more subtle, unstated connection is in Progress City. Each building in the pavilion ties thematically to a different Epcot pavilion. Sea Base Alpha Outpost ties to the Seas with Nemo, Mesa Verde Market ties to the Land Pavilion. The Hall of Future Dreams ties to the Imagination Pavilion. The Carousel of Progress ties to spaceship Earth (both serving as a sort of history lesson). The People Mover Station is themed to a public transit station tying it to Test Track and the Transportation Pavilion. Brava Centauri Traders is themed to a space station tying it to the former Mission Space this Pavilion Replaced. Al of these ties are subtle and thematic in nature. Other than a few Easter eggs, there are no direct links. That way, even if the Land Pavilion is suddenly and dramatically bulldozed tomorrow to make way for Coco’s Ill-fitting Adventure, Mesa Verde Market will be unaffected.
-------------------------------------------------------
-Progress City Pavilion-
View attachment 266252
As guest enter into the large, trapezoidal show building (designed with the tradition of classic Epcot pavilions having striking, distinct, and creative architecture), they are taken into the far future. Inside guests will be immersed the world of tomorrow, Progress City. This will be significantly more grounded and based on real science than the more sci-fantasy Tomorrowland. Every detail has a reason. Even the Fountain of the Future in the center will be built in a way that the energy of the falling water will be collected to partially power the fountain. A fountain that will be both a beautiful sight and as close to self-sustaining as possible. The walkways of Progress City are partially built with a prototype of new technology that harnesses the power of foot traffic (reference)
View attachment 266253
This will truly attempt to be a small slice of the kind of city Walt dreamed of building. And that we can all build together as we work towards the future.
-Brava Centauri Traders-
View attachment 266254
This shop will be themed as a shuttle that has docked in Progress City. It has come from the space station Brava Centauri (from the original Horizons) and brings goods developed there. Apparently, Brava Centauri designs a lot of cheap souvenirs themed to Progress City, retro Epcot, and sci-fi Disney films. Attentive guests will notice that the space shuttle is propelled using the state of the art EM Drive which is (theorized to be) capable of faster than light travel (reference).
-Sea Base Alpha Outpost-
View attachment 266256
The Outpost is themed as the on-land outpost for the underwater research lab known as Seas Base Alpha which is situated at the very bottom of the ocean in the Mariana Trench (nearly 11,000 meters below sea level). This is mostly a seating area for the Mesa Verde Market, but it does feature actual facts about deep sea life. Aquariums featuring (fake animatronics of) the strange and almost alien like creatures found at the very bottom of the ocean. A full-size recreation of the Solo Sub from Horizons (also can be seen in miniature form during the current exit of Space Mountain) is docked here as a photo op.
-Mesa Verde Market-
View attachment 266257
This is a quick service featuring fresh fruits, vegetables, and sea food. The building is themed as a farmer’s market type place with different booths selling different meal options. All the booths are set up by farmers from Mesa Verde, the thriving, high tech farmlands set up in an irrigated desert. Each booth teaches about a different cutting-edge farming and/or irrigation technique. Some seating is available here, but most of the seating is either out in Progress City or in the Outpost next door.
-The Hall of Future Dreamers-
View attachment 266258
A museum looking back at different visions of the future throughout history and the people who tried to make them a reality. There are exhibits on Jules Verne, Steam Punk, George Milies, Gene Roddenberry, Jetson’s style sci-fi, cyber punk, Steve Jobs, Elon Musk, Leonardo Da Vinci, and, of course, Walt Disney and his Florida Project. It is a small walk through dedicated to those who’s imaginations help us all to envision and reach for the horizon. The new Carousel of Progress will empty out into here.
-Keep Moving Forward: The Carousel of Progress-
View attachment 266259
The Carousel of Progress is moved here from Tomorrowland. That frees up space in Tomorrowland for another exciting expansion there. Plus, the themes of the Carousel fit perfectly in Epcot and the Progress
City Pavilion.
This will be an updated version of the show titled Keep Moving Forward: The Carousel of Progress. A new version of the show focused on how society not only recovers, but thrives after tragedies. That even after the worst happens, those who believe there truly is a Great Big Beautiful Tomorrow are able to help us all to Keep Moving Forward. Like the current show, the new version will have 4 scenes plus an intro and an end scene.
1900s Turn of the Century – This is mostly similar to the current first scene. A bit more discussion of optimism for the new century.
1920s Post WW1 Boom – This scene is now reworked to discuss the War to End all Wars. But not about the horrors of the war. About the recovery and post war boom that followed. The way America and the world as a whole has moved forward. Here is an excerpt about the post war boom. The kinds of things that might be discussed. “Total production of American industry increased by 50% in the 1920s. New electrical goods such as washing machines came into demand. The chemical industry created new materials such as rayon, creating more jobs required to produce them. Motor car industry grew; such as Ford and General Motors More jobs are available; The economy grows in size. Prices fell due to the assembly line, the price of the Ford Model T fell from $850 to $260.” (Reference).
1980s Post WW2 Reconciliation with Japan leading to a tech boom – This segment will focus on the development of new technology and pop culture. Specifically focusing on the recovery between Japan and America after WW2. Things like Sony, Nintendo, and more! Not to mention the way Anime and American animation take inspiration from each other. This scene, while still discussing new technology, will distinguish itself from other Carousel of Progress scenes with its focus on pop culture and cultural relationships that have been rebuilt.
2010s Current Day Pessimistic Outlook on everything, but speaking to how things are never as bad as they seem – It is no secret that not a lot of people are hopeful for the future right now. The country is perhaps more divided than it has been in years and many young people have absolutely nothing but bad feelings about the future. This new scene will discuss the more positive things that are going on right now. But mostly it will be about how, just as happened many times throughout history, things will get better. It might seem like an old-fashioned idea, but maybe a bit of old fashioned is just what we need right now. Optimism. Hope. And an effort to come together and to always Keep Moving Forward. If we don’t give up these ideas, then together we can make it a Great Big Beautiful tomorrow.
-People Mover Station-
View attachment 266260
The last part of Progress city and perhaps the most important is the Progress City People Mover Station. Themed as a public transit station. Like a futuristic bus station if bus stations weren’t depressing and disgusting. Posters for different futuristic transportation options (such as Mag-lev trains), are seen here. As well as the various locations they can travel to. In reality, of course, this is just all theming for the queue. The queue winds its way through here until it gets to the moving sidewalk that will take guests up to the loading platform on the second floor. Big signs advertising the destination for the People Mover as “New Horizons” are seen at the entrance and in the queue.

-------------------------------------------------------
Part 2 will focus on the main part of this project. The People Mover itself. I should have that up soon enough. I got a bit to carried away with this project and the number of visuals I wanted to use lol.
Pionmycake presents the second half of an Innovators Prompt:
-People Mover to New Horizons-
View attachment 266309
This new People mover will travel around the futuristic Progress city before heading into Epcot for a grand tour around Future World. It may seem like a much larger track then the version in Tomorrowland, but measuring lengths on a satellite map, the Epcot loop is only slightly longer than the Tomorrowland loop (Tomorrowland, winds around a lot).
The Progress City People Mover to New Horizons (casually called simply the People Mover), will be roughly 1.1 miles long. The whole trip takes between 15 and 20 minutes. The ride system is an updated version of the LMS propulsion system used on the current version of the People Mover. The cars are outfitted with on board audio. And there is narration provided by Liam Neeson.
The first part of the ride is through and above Progress City. This section goes at a slower speed. Almost like a traditional dark ride.
View attachment 266311
The second part of the ride is the loop through Epcot. This part goes at a more brisk pace.
View attachment 266310
-Introduction-
The ride starts with a mostly dark tunnel. Geometric shapes with a subtle black light glow fill the room. The narrator’s voice (Liam Neeson) can then be heard.
“Hello! And Welcome to the Future!”
As he says that we pass by a sign that says, “Welcome to the Future!”
“Let’s take a look at what life is like here.”
-Home of the Future-
View attachment 266312
Guests then enter the home of an average family who lives here in Progress City. This is done similarly to the scene from the original Horizons, but updated for modern audiences and updated views of the future. The television is being watched over hologram (Pepper’s Ghost). Food is being 3-D Printed. The mother’s work station is done more like the type of computer Iron Man would use.
View attachment 266313
Of course, the famous robot butler will make an appearance as well.
-E.P.C.O.T. Model-
We see the slice of the E.P.C.O.T. model that currently sits along the route of the Tomorrowland Transit Authority People Mover. It has been moved here and its space in Tomorrowland replaced with a new show scene that repurposes the Stitch animatronic from the now defunct Stitch’s Great Escape. The model has also been fully restored to its peak condition. The narrator comes on again.
“Yes, life here is pretty great. And it all started with this. Walt Disney’s Experimental Prototype community of Tomorrow.”
-The Hall of Future Dreams-
The trains go through the Hall of Future Dreams. Riders can look down on the museum and the exhibits.
“Walt was one of many dreamers who saw what the world could be and helped make this all a reality. Thanks to them and many others we have…”
-Overlook of Progress City-
“…Progress City. The community of the future!”
Thetrains exit the museum for an exposed portion of the track that overlooks the pavilion. After a quick bit, the trains then enter a tunnel.
-The Ideas of Epcot Tunnel-
This long tunnel will bridge the space between the Progress City Pavilion and the Epcot fountain plaza. The trains will move faster through this section. The narration will talk about how the ideas that lead to Progress City can be found in Epcot. It talks about the importance of the park. Most excitingly, Liam Neeson will read a modified version of Epcot’s opening day speech. “To all who come to this place of Joy, Hope and Friendship - Welcome. EPCOT is inspired by Walt Disney's creative vision. Here, human achievements are celebrated through imagination, wonders of enterprise and concepts of a future that promises new and exciting benefits for all. May EPCOT Center entertain, inform and inspire and above all, may it instill a new sense of belief and pride in man's ability to shape a world that offers hope to people everywhere.”
This will cross over the path that leads to Guardians of the Galaxy and under the Monorail track. The walkways will have to be lowered to accommodate going under the Monorail. This will help separate Guardians of the Galaxy from the rest of Future World. It will be a subtle separation and not technically dividing it into a new land or anything drastic like that. It will be just enough to ease the misgivings of Disney purists who dislike GotG in Epcot.
-Plaza Loop-
The trains will then emerge from the tunnel. This will be the first time the trains are out in the open during the ride. Guests burst out as the music swells and are treated to a grand view of Spaceship Earth.
View attachment 266314
There is not much narration as the trains loop around Fountain Plaza. Mostly just music and enjoying the sights of Epcot. After the loop, guests enter another small tunnel. It features light up signs of Epcot pavilion logos. This transitions them from the plaza to the Seas. The trains also duck low again here briefly to go under the Monorail.
-Mysteries of the Seas-
View attachment 266315
The narrator discusses the importance and wonders of discovery what is hidden deep below the sea. He also talks about the actual marine life research being done in the Seas pavilion. Plus, much to the delight of younger guests, the “mine mine mine” birds from Nemo like to hang out along the People Mover track.
-Beauty of the Land-
View attachment 266316
The narrator discusses the Land Pavilion and the attractions held within. He goes on to discuss the incredible farming practices used here and how the greenhouse provides fresh produce for the entire park.
-Wonders of Imagination-
Trains pass by the Imaginations pavilion as Liam Neeson talks about how imagination is that one little spark that is at the heart of all creation.
NOTE: There is currently a rumor that the Figment ride will be replaced with an Inside Out attraction and Figment will take over the 4-D theater with a new film. This project assumes this rumor will be fact.
View attachment 266317
The trains then enter another tunnel that will be used to hide the ugly back stage stuff. Inside the tunnel is the imagination world seen in Journey Into Imagination reusing many of the old props, sets, and animatronics from the Figment ride to create this world for a cheap price. Of course, Figment will sing a shortened version of the famous song.
-Unity of the World-
As the trains pass across the entrance to the World Showcase, Liam Neeson talks about the world coming together. He discusses that the World Showcase celebrates not just what makes our different cultures unique, but what brings us all together. The narration is changed slightly to reflect whatever festival is currently happening at Epcot.
-Creativity of Motion-
View attachment 266318
While passing past the former Odyssey building and Test Track, the narrator discusses how Walt was always fascinated by trains and other types of transportation. Two of the ideas that excited him the most, the monorail and the people mover, can both be seen in action here at Epcot. And guests can help design the future of transportation themselves here at the Test Track presented by Chevrolet.
-Space finale-
The narrator gives a final, stirring speech about how we can all work together to use the ideas here to create a brighter future. A better tomorrow. “Together, we travel… to new horizons.”
A stirring orchestra version of the song is played as trains travel through a tunnel filled with star lights.
Guests then pull back into the station ready to create a better world.
-------------------------------------------------------
There is one part of the original Horizons that, you might notice, is seemingly not included anywhere in this project. At the end of Horizons, guests got to choose how they wanted to finish the ride by selecting what video to watch. This segment was titled “Choose your own tomorrow.” While it is true that there is no segment where guests get to interact with and change a ride path or choose what video to watch, the spirit is here. Throughout Carousel of Progress and the People Mover, the idea that the future is created by us here today can be found.
Guests are encouraged to choose their own tomorrow in their real life. To be inspired by the ideas found at Epcot. To keep moving forward. To push on to new horizons.
