So what changes will we see at DHS GE based on DL GE?

Clearly the combination of crowd fear, the reservation system, only one of two rides open, interactive element cutbacks (no roaming droids or flying drones initially due to crowd fears), AP and cast member blackouts, and the 4 hour time window created a perfect storm that really backfired on them. A lot of people on these boards said they were gonna wait on going for those very reasons. I just hope this doesn’t teach Disney all the wrong lessons and now we don’t get any more big immersive lands or Star Wars expansions in the future.

I also wonder if this lost some general audience appeal by not being set in a more familiar Star Wars movie setting vs the outer rim planet that no one had ever heard of before. For me, I absolutely love the idea of a create your own Star Wars story location, but maybe that is less appealing for the average Joe Public kinda fan. Who knows? But Disneyland at level 1 crowd levels for multiple days in a row is incredible.

Finally, I don’t believe this will be the situation in Florida at all and I’m fearful that they just let it be a free for all and we’ll be stuck with the 8 hour lines just to get into Batuu we’ve been envisioning since they announced this thing.

I know this will get horrified reactions from true Star Wars fans, and I do know the reasons behind it, but as a casual fan I’m disappointed that there won’t be classic SW stuff within SW:GE. I don’t really care all that much about the new characters, what I really want to see is Chewie, R2D2 and C3PO, and Darth Vader. BB8 is cute enough though.

But I would hate to be time limited in the land. How do you decide between the Cantina and building a droid? And browsing the shops. It’s all about the type of WDW visitor, the vast majority are not regulars, and the last thing WDW want are upset guests who didn’t get a chance to see everything and won’t be back for a few years or even ever. There’s a reason the reservation system is only for three weeks at DL. And I reckon there’s enough spare capacity for them to give any resort guests who wanted more time a second reservation slot to keep them happy.

I’m a life long fan and I would have loved it if they could have figured out a way to set this in the OT. The hard part is coming up with a suitable outside location, so I think the best approach would have needed to be all under a roof. I think a cool way that could have been done was you basically enter a spaceport (converted Star Tours) where you are then either transported to the Death Star or a Star Destroyer (where you then explore and board a ride that is all set in a giant building) or something like Cloud City (another giant building just made to look like a large chuck of the setting of Empire) or any other planet (all inside giant buildings). But to do an entire outside land would be difficult based on OT locations imo. Best outside setting would probably be Tatooine so that they wouldn’t have to build things like giant trees or frozen waste lands, etc, but that is too monotone imo. For an outside land, it would be tuff. Lots of great inside locations though...

People seem to be staying away from Disneyland in droves since the opening of GE. On our wait-time based scale of 1 to 10, DLR has been a '1' every day, and DCA has averaged 1.5.

I suspect this is because of the reservation system - locals who know they can't get in to GE, are staying home.

There's some evidence that Disney is scrambling to address this. PR started reaching out to travel writers last week, pitching article ideas for things like the new brunch at Lamplight Lounge. And we've already seen relaxation of the guest reservation rules for GE.

All of this makes me think it's less likely that WDW will see a pre-opening reservation system. A virtual queue may be more likely.

With DVC booked solid and Disney hotels seemingly booked solid through the fall, (no discount packages) and no AP blackouts at WDW, why do you think it will be the same at WDW? I could easily see Disney over correcting in the other way and make the experience in Florida be substantially worse for the guest.

The only thing I will say is that DLR SWGE is open during summer, WDW version opens when school starts. Do families pull their kids out of school and take a Disney trip for this?

5th gate. Planets as lands. Solved.

Edit: I know for some people that is the low-brow, uncreative, easy approach, but sometimes the most obvious (or most simple) solution is the best. I think Disney was "too smart by half" or whatever the expression is.

I don't think this is uncreative at all. A series of interconnected buildings (think GotG show building scale) that serve as planets or starships would be an amazing experience IMO. Climate controlled too.

Over time new buildings could be added or reimagined as new films and themes are released.

Maybe Uni will do this with their new park.👍

That’s been my dream Disney park since I was a kid.

Yeah the different interconnected buildings thing could work for Disney or Universal especially in Florida because it would take the weather completely out of the picture. My dream Universal park is that they acquire the rights to Lord of the Rings and do different lands themed to the different kingdoms and other realms of Middle Earth. I need a dark ride where we go up against a Balrog.

But back to topic, I wonder if they now wish they would have delayed the Studio’s version until RotR was ready...and maybe hadn’t delayed or cancelled the TSR. Obviously now that Aug 29 had been long announced I don’t think there’s any way they delay it. But I think they can probably see that with even extremely light crowds, things like Oga’s are getting crushed. Be nice if they could fast track some kind of an expansion of the one in Florida.

Menus definitely need revisions with more dairy and meat products. Not sure who or what is driving this vegan crusade but I won't be participating. Yuck.
I totally agree. I can't believe that Disney missed the mark on Blue and Green Milk. I've yet to see a review that liked them both. And Disney is arguing that "Well we couldn't make something one person imagines to be Blue Milk because everyone is imagining something different" which would be a good argument if it wasn't for the fact IT HAS MILK IN ITS NAME. Something which implies it will taste like MILK to everyone.

As to the Blue/Green Milk debate, what I pictured was something like a froyo smoothie, maybe blueberries/green apple (?) 🤷‍♀️
