I know i know...you are gunna kill me..but i really havnt worked on it at ALL the last few weeks. Things with my band got really hectic and I have been home on average about 5 hours a day..most of which is spent catching up on emails and such...

On a good note tho..I FINALLY fixed my main workstation (the one that had like 90% of the models and sketches on it that has been busted since january)..and im already in the process of re-rendering and compressing images to share...yay...

AWESOME!

Great! I'm looking forward to seeing the finished product. By the way, whats your bands name? Are you local or do you have a CD or something?

Wow, can't believe I missed this thread! Looks really awesome Now. I've been wanting to start designing some rides/attractions on my own as well. I have a $2,000 CAD program and have been designing some prototypes for some parks. If anybody has the Disney Imagineering book, one may have seen the prototype model of EPCOT with the 3 hubs.... I've been trying to recreate that with my CAD program. Been doing good just haven't worked on it in quite a while.

I think this thread has motivated me to start working on my CAD projects again.

You gotta remember that I have been doing computer arts since i was about 11 years old..back when it was almost all code. Lucky for anyone wanting to start on it now...its a LOT easier.

..and trust me..the stuff i posted here is far from my best work...i just really need more time to do proper textures and lighting....and some touch up models wouldnt hurt either...

Wow..im suprised 405 is still getting sso many viewiers!! hehe..i remember when they premiered that at SIGGraph back in i think it was 99...its really cool. It was done by 2 guys in LA using Lightwave (I wouldnt say its available at ANY retail store..since it runs about 3000 bucks)..which is a great program that althought I know how to use it..it isnt my main weapon of choice.

Personally I use mainly Maya for modeling/texturing/animating.. and depending on how ambitious im feeling i will either export the models to XSI for rendering (Cuz mentalray, that programs built in render engine, is truely the funk) or I use a Alpha render engine im sorta writing with a friend of mine..but thats very buggy so its my "do i have time to play with this" option.

For making the textures themselves...i use photoshop. 99% of the time they are completly "hand drawn" (in quotes because technically i use a wacom tablet) and that other 1% its usually adapted from other photos.

Of course before even THINKING about doing all this 3d work...I took a few months and did as many concept sketches as possible so that i have a visual reference of how everything is supposed to look and fit together. It may seem time consuming..but it is REALLLy worth it...and if you ever intend on getting a job doing this sort of thing...you better get used to sketching.

Yea It's still getting lots of hits. and to tell you The very first time I saw it last year i compleatly belived it was real untill I saw the website, because I kept saying "how did they do that" over and over for a while untill I looked closer to realized how far CGI has really come. Yea a good program willl cost you some $$$ but if joe artist can do that think what Hollywood can do and the jobs available for someone like you. Kep the work comming
