Smoking

It's amazing how ignorant and irresponsible people can be. I saw at least a dozen people smoking not in the designated area today.

There are lots of kids out there. Surely resisting the urge for a few minutes, until they find a smoking area will not kill them?

Just notify a cast member or politely ask them yourself. The key is to be polite and also point them in the direction they should go.

This is bad things in resort. In Resort many children are come for enjoying and Smoking is bad effect on children .It is also harmless for the Body.So Smoking is Prohibited in Resort all garden is required.
What?? Smoking is harmless for the body?? I am a former smoker and I am not that crazy to think that. Also there are designated smoking areas around the resorts as well. When I would smoke at disney I would always go to the designated areas, it is only fair to non smokers. I just hated when the non smokers would come sit in the designated areas and complain about the smoking.

Some smoking areas need to be better placed, but overall it`s the same as going through a wrong way sign - those who obay rules and those who don`t. You get all sorts of people at WDW as you do in real life.

I have to disagree with this...It's a good way to get your face bashed in. Leave the police work to the smoking police. Too many people at WDW already have a chip on their shoulder, to try to knock it off is just foolish.

I completely understand you there I myself as well is a former smoker. Nothing irked me more than 2 things non-smokers did:

1. Be in areas where smokers are and talk about how it's bad for their health or how they need to stop smoking.

2. Basically cheer when the government raised tobacco tax or makes new laws where you can/can not smoke to try to force people to stop smoking. (this one irked me the most)

I'm a heavy smoker too, and believe me I know it's hard to resist smoking especially in the cold weather. But the point is, they should know that smoking is prohibited outside the smoking area without people telling them.

Well if the rules are going to be broken, then the simple and easy thing to do is just have a smoke free Disney. Ends the arguments on both sides. Now I expect the bullets to be firing on this one.

smoking will NEVER totally be banned in WDW unless it is made illegal by law.

That being said, neither will drinking in WDW, although I find drunkenness to be offensive if one is "overserved". especially around childeren. It's not o.k. for kids to see anyone smoking because they might want to someday. But hell yeah, drinking is fine in front of the kids, so what if it tempts them to try it, some people even let their kids "try" a sip here and there- now you tell me what the "gateway" drug is. Just a thought or two.

Doesn't seem to really matter what the rules are someone will always break them.

So true. We were at Pop Nov. 6-13. There is a smoking area outside the back entrance that leads to the pool area and the rooms. Technically, it's around the corner, but for the whole week we were there, a lady in a wheelchair and her companion camped out in the doorway and the stench even reached inside the building. I mentioned it to the front desk, but nothing was ever done about it. We just used a different entrance and didn't eat outside at the tables.
There were people walking around the parks smoking as well. I do not smoke but if I did, I couldn't be that rude. :(

It's funny...I remember being in Disney World in 1980 and there were no smoking areas because you could smoke ANYWHERE.
I remember standing in the long queue line at The Jungle Cruise and every other person was smoking in line. I also remember that as soon as you were through with your cigarette, and you threw it on the ground and stepped on it, there would be a Disney custodial castmember sweeping it up.:ROFLOL:
When Pirates of The Carribean was busy, it was the worst. There was always a cloud of smoke in there and cigarette butts were all over the floor. Since I smoked at the time, none of this bothered me but I can't imagine it now. The cigar smokers were the worst though. They would stink up the area where ever they were.:hurl:
I'm glad there are designated smoking areas for smokers now. I feel that if it's ok for companys to MAKE cigarettes, and it's ok for the government to TAX cigarettes, then people should be allowed to smoke them, especially since they are on vacation, and especially if it's in a far off, designated area away from non smokers.

Not sure about the people that are from this country or culture. Maybe they just dont care.

We have a lot of many different cultures visiting the parks. Some of them might not come from countries that are as PC as we are about smoking. Yes, they are in a country where it is a lot more strict and they should abide by the rules, but a learned behavior is a learned behavior.

Im not excusing or chastising them, just giving you reason why some might not understand the harm in smoking 50 feet from a designated area.

I noticed that too. There seemed to be a lot of smoking in non-designated areas this week. And also, does All Stars Sports NOT have a designated area for smokers (I know Pop Century does)? Because IO noticed a lot of people smoking right outside their rooms, and CMs walking right by didn't make any comments to them.

You can avoid the smoking areas all you want, smokers can tell when someone is allergic to it and they will try their best to blow a puff in your face because it's "the cool thing" to do.

It's getting harder being more tolerant of smokers when more and more would rather puff it in your face when you ask them politely to put it out or find a designated smoking area rather than actually put it out.

I find a face mask quite handy till I have to eat.

Just a little food for thought, in the state of NJ all resteraunts and bowling allies are smoke free. Now for me this is great since I have asthma. For others this is no so great. I honestly believe that if smokers stay in there designated areas and non smokers stay away from that area there really should be no issues. Yes I feel both sides will need to be reminded about this, but I honestly do not see we why we can not respect one another this way.
