Smoking

Like a lot of other people, way to young.

Indeed. Cancer does not descriminate.

Mouse Man, FL has that same law. Any place that serves food (outside of some bars that get away with this) no smoking within 50 feet of the building. The problem I think in this particular case of WDW that I think most people pointed out is the areas chosen...why by bathrooms? Pretty bad idea since people both smokers and non use them.

Well if the rules are going to be broken, then the simple and easy thing to do is just have a smoke free Disney. Ends the arguments on both sides. Now I expect the bullets to be firing on this one.
The problem is that a few people refuse to act decently to others. Manners and good taste cannot be legislated.

I have to disagree with this...It's a good way to get your face bashed in. Leave the police work to the smoking police. Too many people at WDW already have a chip on their shoulder, to try to knock it off is just foolish.
I agree, you don't have the right to take matter into your own hands. Tell someone of authority to handle it.

I also agree some of the area for smokers need to be better placed

You can avoid the smoking areas all you want, smokers can tell when someone is allergic to it and they will try their best to blow a puff in your face because it's "the cool thing" to do.

It's getting harder being more tolerant of smokers when more and more would rather puff it in your face when you ask them politely to put it out or find a designated smoking area rather than actually put it out.

I find a face mask quite handy till I have to eat.
Who knew smoking carcinogens gave them special powers and telepathy.

You do know when someone is allergic they show physical signs and symptoms of illness right?
I would imagine that if you had physical reactions that quickly to smoke, where a smoker could see evidence, then you wouldn't be able to function in most cities in the US due to poor air quality.

I really dont think the first thing on smokers minds are torturing those that walk by and are allergic. I am an ex smoker and these are the things I contemplated:

- I swear Im quitting when a pack goes over $2.00
- This would go so well with a cup of coffee
- This would go so well with a beer
- I only have 3 cigarettes left. If I space them out, theses should last me till I get out later to go back home and I can go by the store.
- Ah man. He comes that guy that never buys his own cigarettes and just bums them all the time. Look busy. Look busy.

Come on everyone. The whole point comes down to a complete lack of consideration some people have for other people. It doesn't matter how many signs or warnings are put up people will plead ignorance and smoke where they want, park where they want, cut in line when they want, scream into their cell phones, etc. Some people are just rude and personally, if you do not follow the rules, you should be removed from the park. Everybody paid to get in and everybody should be able to enjoy the parks the same way.

And yes, I do smoke. I am very concious about where and who I smoke around. I do my best not to smoke around children. If I am at a bar, I always ask if the people near me mind. If they do, I have no problem moving or going outside. I don't smoke next to the door so people going in and out have to pass through it. Same the other way around too, don't go into a smoking section and complain about it. People who smoke know it is bad for you. Unfortunately it is physically and mentally addictive. Yet, as long as it is legal, it is going to be around you.

I noticed that too. There seemed to be a lot of smoking in non-designated areas this week. And also, does All Stars Sports NOT have a designated area for smokers (I know Pop Century does)? Because IO noticed a lot of people smoking right outside their rooms, and CMs walking right by didn't make any comments to them.

Pick your battles...if the guest is in a remote area not near anyone I let it go.

I apologize as I am replying without having read any replies to this thread. I'm am a smoker of 15 years, anywhere from one to two packs a day. That being said, when we travel to Disney World, the ONLY time that I smoke is early in the morning or late in the evening, outside of our hotel room, and I put them out on my foot putting the butts in an empty water bottle to be thrown away later. I know what my habit is doing to me, but more importantly, I know what it can do to other people, and as such refuse to smoke around non-smokers.

Stop with your crazy logic! People might be exposed to rational thought and we wouldn't want that now, would we? :)

Honestly, just as bad as smokers smoking in the wrong places are people who make such a fuss about smoking. If it's bothering you, move away. If someone is smoking some place they shouldn't, by all means let someone in authority know.

There was this woman on another board awhile ago that was talking about how her daughter "can't even see smoke!" without having an asthma attack. How one day, they opened the door and saw someone 100 feet away smoking and her daughter froze and they had to spend all day tending to her in bed, and they admitted they couldn't even smell it from that distance. So the woman ranted and complained, etc, totally missing the fact that, if your kid SEES smoke and freaks out, and then you freak out, of course the kid is going to have an attack because...everyone is freaking out. And if the kid was that bad off, they need a new doctor because they were not being properly treated.

Again, if you see someone smoking where they shouldn't, by all means tell someone in authority. But the indignant walking into a smoking area and making faces or acting like an angel and smokers are scum is laughable - and are often the same people defending using a handicapped bathroom when they aren't handicapped because they "like more room", stuffing stuff in their kids shoes to get around safety restrictions, or other such obnoxious and "wrong" behavior themselves.

I agree completly, there is nothing more disgusting and harmful than inhaling someone's poison! The problem is that disney does't enforce the smoking policy they have now. There are people smoking all over the parks and resorts in full view of disney staff who just ignore it.I pointed out a smoker to a security gaurd and he refused to do anything about it.At POFQ someone was smoking at the pool and when i told the life gaurd he told me that they were told not to do anything about it.Smokers are a large enough group of customers that disney won't risk driving them away.

If you don't smoke I'll give you the "disgusting", but "harmful" is really a stretch.

Yes, yes, second-hand smoking over time can cause issues (i.e. a child who is in a car every day with a parent smoking), but as Patsy from AbFab says, "You have to take big lung bucketfulls" for it to matter. ;)

As someone pointed out above, you get far more damage and pollutants just inhaling the air in a city than a single whiff of a cigarette. So I totally support you thinking it's disgusting, and unpleasant, and that people should have to smoke in the designated smoking area, but "harmful" is a real stretch. (And before someone says, "What if I am allergic?" then as someone who knows tons of people who are - and used to be myself as a child - if a single whiff of a passing cigarette sets you off, you need to make an appointment with your allergist because you aren't being properly treated.)

You must work for the tobacco companies, that's the same thing they have been saying for years.

Yeah, this is just one of those issues that the majority of CM's completely ignore. There's no reason to say anything to them, as most will do nothing. Smokers in the parks are no different than the idiots who take flash photos on dark rides, cut in lines, etc.

As others have said, some people feel as though the rules simply don't apply to them.
