This has to be the most disjointed thread I've seen here in a long time. Someone has definitely been smoking something.

That reminds me of one more tangent for this thread... lets add Jamaica to World Showcase :dazzle: But that wouldn't do much for the diet discussion

Ok I've read just about all the smoking posts. I didn't want to reply cuz I'm new here and didn't want to stir the pot...

BUUUUUUUT.....

People who have no clue what it's like to be a smoker are usually the clueless ones about it. (no offense..really!). You don't have a clue what it's like to try to quit and feel like you're going to literally explode. It's worse than crack. For the long time smokers who've quit and stayed off... you are strong strong strong people! :sohappy:

Just out of curiosity, are the smoking sections marked on the maps they hand out? I haven't been in a long time and we're planning on going next year so I don't have a clue. If they're not then maybe thats why all the confusion about where the certain areas are.

Has anyone stopped to think that maybe there aren't enough smoking spots in WDW? Or the fact they're too far apart/inconvenient for the smoker?

I'm sorry for sounding catty because I'm really trying to be polite here, but just because non smokers think their rights are being infringed upon doesn't exactly make it right for other guests, who happen to be smokers, paying the same amount the non smokers are should be treated like 2nd class citizens. It's ridiculous.

ALSO.... haha... :goodnevil does anyone happen to watch the Penn & Teller BS show thats on either cinemax or showtime? They debunk a lot of things like alternative medicine and other hoaxes. 2nd hand smoke happened to be one of them. The people who published the reports claiming X number of people died of 2nd hand smoke (etc etc) fudged them. The numbers aren't as high as reported. It's almost a miniscule number of people. Now, don't shoot the messenger, because I'm not flaming anyone here nor have I been rude.. I expect the same in return. I'm just relaying what was said. This is just another thing for the public to rally about.

WDW is an outdoor place except for the rides. The smoke is going to dissapate before anyone can be struck down by lung cancer or emphyzema. What a smoker does they do to themselves. The non-smokers have won. I read all WDW-related restaurants are non smoking. They've managed to quarantine smokers to small patches of area. What more do you want? You won. You got what you wanted. Now if WDW would only try to cater a little more to smokers, like more areas & are more clear about smoking spots etc, then there would MORE THAN LIKELY be less rule breaking by responsible smokers. As far as I'm concerned there's nothing more to complain about. You WON non-smokers.

----- Now for completely rude smokers who delibrately push their smoke onto other people by blowing it in their faces and who flat out don't abide by rules... I'm not talking about them in my post.. theyre on their own----

When it's obvious that nobody is going to stop arguing, we drift the thread into more peaceful waters. ;)

Sen- your point about how hard it is to quit is the exact reason I don't like seeing people downplaying its negative effects in front of impressionable kids/teenagers. And, people may not die in large numbers from secondhand smoke, but check the health stats for kids born to smoking parents: higher instances of asthma, respiratory infections, inner ear problems, etc.

Hmm, unfortunately we seem to have gone back on topic

Hot chocolate, anyone? It's back down to 13 degrees here. Brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

Smoking sections are on the maps, and there are plenty of them. You should not be more than a couple of minutes away from one.

If smokers were being treated like second class citizens, they would not be allowed in the parks. Anyway, it's not the smoker themself, it's the action of smoking that causes the issue.

The authors of the report downplaying passive smoking - how many people are there in a "miniscule". If one of them is someone you care for then it's one too many.

"What a smoker does they do to themselves. " Ummm, I'm assuming this is a typo.

From your last parragraph you appear to be a good soul who happens to smoke and should have no problems in the park. Have a great visit.

I think you're right! Does anybody happen to know if he's running for re-election?

 Sen, when you have been here a while and lose your reluctance to reply with an opinion, we had better look out!

Welcome to the board!

The smoking areas are clearly marked on the maps, but they are not always so well marked in the parks. There have been a few times, particularly at EPCOT and AK, that with a map in my hand it still took me 5 or so minutes of wandering in the area, to find it.

Myself, I would never smoke outside of the designated area, and if I can't find it, I will wait until I'm near a different one.
Many people probably have this same problem, and I think with better signage at the parks, maybe we would have alot fewer inconsiderate smokers in the parks.:)

Its not about winning or losing. I never signed up to fight this "battle". I am a proud non-smoker. I have never had issues with smokers at the parks. I do have issues with them else where... like outside of buildings at doorways when you try to enter but there is a herd of smokers huddled by the door. The doors barely open because of all the butts on the ground! This is especially bad at mall entrances.

The litter aspect is indeed annoying. I'm not going to blame all the evils of litter on smokers, but the pavements (sidewalks) at home always seem to have a high number of cigarette butts in the general detritus. Also – what’s the deal with the car drivers who flick discarded cigarettes out of the window? Are they scared of getting their fingers tapped in the car’s ashtray? :brick:

Thats exactly what I'm talkin about! Well said. Most smoking areas in other places I've gone are so hard to find. Once I walked right past one. LOL We're not asking for the deluxe smoking lounge w/ satin brocade jackets & champagne or anything. Just some decent signs, maybe a few more spots & maybe a place to sit!

Actually I hope to have quit before our trip. I'd love to not have to concern myself with smoking areas & smoke breaks. Gotta work on it.
