Well, to remind smokers.. There are still so many cases where they INSIST in smoking in the lavatory and even tampering with the alarm system there.
I was on a flight from Miami to Pittsburgh a long while ago. We sat on the runway for over two hours waiting for a storm system to work it's way through, after we took off, a lady in the seat in front of us got up and headed to the restroom. Unbeknownst to us she was going to smoke. The sensors must have been working well because very shortly after she came out of the restroom almost everyone in the crew, including the pilot came out and formed a crowd around her. They then proceeded to yell, and I mean yell loudly at the woman concerning the compromised danger that her selfish activity put the whole plane in. They completely humiliated her and then informed her that she had been banned from any future flights with the airline, including her connecting flight in Pittsburgh to Chicago. She was crying at that point and even her family were chastising her for her action. She wanted to know how she was going to get home and the pilot told her that was her problem, then they told her to just sit down and be quiet for the rest of the trip. This was before cell phones so her family members were frantically trying to figure out how they were going to get her home and they were relentless and unafraid to show their anger at her for her behavior..

So just counted about 50 in the AK smoking area - for everyone that leaves - one enters

About 15% percent of the population smokes. About 55000 avg daily visitors to the MK alone. Means on any given day there are over 8000 smokers just at the MK. All of them are going to follow the new rule - considering there isn’t any real penalty?

Did they follow when the smoking areas were changed? According to everyone here, 99% follow the rules. Why wouldn't they follow them now?

I didn’t mean to assume you were deliberately being hyperbolic with my emoji there. I don’t know distances, but I do travel to the parks, most often several times per year (until my daughter was born). Last summer we took my daughter, who was 7 months old at the time. We were heading to the front of the park for the baby care center 4-5 times per day (in Epcot it was near the odyssey and in AK it wasn’t near the front, but the same principle applies). We just built travel to the baby center into our schedule like meals and FPs. And unless you’re in a far corner of a park, and as long as you don’t have physical restrictions, it’s definitely accurate to say that much of the time, you’ll be a 10-minute walk from the front.
May I ask, are there baby care centers in different locations throughout the park? Or just at the front of the park?

Ummm because they will have to leave the entire park now? Not that that is a valid excuse, but of course more people who had no problem following the rules before are going to balk at that long of a walk .

Hm, ok. Do you think security will make a fuss if they see a small e-cig in my lady’s purse? It’s something she could, most likely, discreetly puff on from time to time while walking through the park (not while waiting in lines or when indoors or anything) and not draw much, if any attention to herself. As long as it’s not a big huge deal getting in the gate, I figure we’ll test our luck. 🤷‍♂️
Mister, I'm going to tell you the truth.
There's no smoking in the MLB park by me. It was a chilly day when I went, so I cut a small hole in the edge of a cuff of a denim jacket and slipped an e-cig in there. so it was along the edge.

I bought a cup of coffee, a hot steaming cup of coffee. A few, actually.
Every so often, I would bring my hand up, as if I were resting my chin and my hand, and with the other hand, would hold the hot, steaming coffee up close, so the worker close by would think that the vapor from the e-cig was steam from the coffee.
It was in those fancy seats, so there was a waiter guy always in our area, but so chilly that the area around us was empty.

I don't know if he could detect what I was doing or not, but he got my niece a lot more extras than the average niece, so perhaps he didn't want to kick her out, considering she was doing the same exact thing as me.

There's a product listed on these comments that might be better than cutting into an old jacket. It resembles and asthma puffer, but it delivers nicotine. My husband just ordered a few, and if they work, it just might be a possible answer.

I’m pretty sure everybody has followed. Don’t see people lighting up in front of Adventureland or between Morocco and Japan anymore. The challenge comes with (depending on where one is when the urge hits)...... rationalizing walking a mile to grab a 5 minute cig and then walking a mile back

I know some will say - that should dissuade somebody from smoking- but in reality it will push most to find somewhere they can grab a few puffs. Especially if there is no real penalty.

They're not confiscating anything; butts or e-cigs... Feuer frei! 🔥

People vape in the lavs (or right at their seat) more than you think. Things like vape pens and salt-based vapes produce very little vapor, and even more heavy-hitting vapes can be dialed down. Juices can be tailored to produce less vapor (more PG, less VG). Hold it in, exhale downwards and voila. If you think WDW guests, let alone CMs will detect this, you are largely mistaken.
The comment was focused about SMOKERS on A PLANE.

As for WDW and the vape thing.. They will probably focus on those showoff attentionseekers who make huge clouds of smoke just to show how they vape (similar to those vegan people who have to tell everyone in a radius of a mile how they are vegans..)

Looking at the new rules, It seems as if some are engineered to persuade people to take a break from the park. I see everywhere in forums and tips that it suggests taking a few hours away and then returning.
The loose ice and dry ice are good for the security workers, but also, it means that people can't transport the contents of their refrigerator around the park. you take what you need for a few hours, then take a break, then return.
Those big huge storage pods on wheels aren't going to be allowed anymore to cart your entire wardrobe and pantry around, with maybe a kid thrown on top of it all.
A smoker might spend a few hours in that park, go outside to smoke, and decide to take a break for a few hours, then come back later.
I went to the park a way long time ago. When I went there, I only brought what I had in my pockets.

Haha, that’s pretty elaborate. I was thinking more along the lines of her just quickly pulling her pen out of her purse and taking a quick puff or two when we’re in a somewhat secluded area every now and again. I don’t want to chance bothering anyone by doing it indoors or while waiting in line for a ride. That fake inhaler thing sounds like a good idea though! 😁

We are going to test that, to see how it works. If it does, it's going to cut down on me rolling up eight cigarettes a day.
It's not a fake inhaler, that's what's so funny. it's got it's nicotine name plastered right on the side of it.
They might as well as named it "Smohhhke!"

It’s just going to mean planning. Depending the frequency someone smokes they’ll want to make plans to be around park entrances every hour or so. But AK is going to be really tough.

With all that foliage and twisty paths, nooks and crannies? I don't know about smoking, but less scrupulous vapers will be all up in that.

LOL - head on over to Rafiki's place. Inside the conservation center, you can virtually kick back with your feet up on the sofa.

Lo and behold, that's exactly how my husband and I looked at the map, almost making circuits. In our case, it'll be way more than an hour, we both know our threshold.
I think the excitement of seeing wild animals might be enough to stretch the threshold a bit.

This thread has actually been hilarious to keep up with.
Everyone has vices or pet peeves.

- A child older than 3 in a stroller- irks me. But that is my opinion.

- Way too many people get poop faced drinking at WDW. I drink at Disney but I do not get blistered.
If they don’t have alcohol I would still go.

- I smoke. Very little, sometimes not at all. I don’t care that they changed it- I care that they can’t tell the details about the change when you paid a lot of money to be there.

People are saying oh, how can you not go without smoking. (I can) but the bigger point is why do some people have to bring their pets on vacation?

Can you not live being away from your animal?
(I love pets, I don’t need them on vacation, they are well cared for at home)

Why are some people (not those that need it) but the many that do not have to ride around in a cart? A little walking never hurt anybody for the most part.

If any of these things were changed, people would want to have answers as to how it affects their upcoming trip.
Just points being thrown out there, not me attacking anyone or anything.

And my gosh. Maybe I am younger than I feel- but smoking on a plane? It is bad enough in a restaurant but that has been a kazillion years ago too. Nobody should allow smoking indoors- and only outside in large ventilated areas away from everyone else.
I honestly hope if they are seeking the comfort of all guests they crack down on a lot. Including pets and the drunk fest that Epcot has become. I like to have a few drinks, but that place is worse than a bar anymore at night. Not a place for children at all.
