Walt was a two pack a day smoker. He never smoked in the public eye. If he can do it, so can you smokers. If you can’t go over to Universal
You're comparing Walt to the average guest? LOL. Pages ago we discussed how CMs have tons of smoking areas backstage.

I'll tell you one thing Walt wouldn't do - shoo people off to Universal. 🙄

I think Disney just doesn't want to deal with legalization and people pushing those limits...

Smoking in public isn't allowed typically in the states where maryjane has been legalized or decriminalized... but people push that boundary all the time.

I think Disney probably sees the support for smokers wanning.. and doesn't want to get into tit for tat battles with vaping, what people are smoking, etc.. so take the big move and push it out entirely now.

I think this is pretty much it in a nutshell, honestly. With FL just legalizing medical weed and recreational probably not far off... They don't want people blazing in the parks. What are you going to do, ask each person for a medical card? If they ban weed specifically, the medical folk would take umbrage.

Smokers are a declining demographic, so the remainder can go out front. The increasing number of vapers will just vape wherever they can. 😏

Again, literally nobody is going to be trespassed for smoking, just like they aren't trespassed now if they smoke outside the area. Stop pushing this ridiculous false narrative.

I know trolling is your thing, but we have an official statement that there isn't going to be any kind of "punishment" for people who smoke. It will be handled the same way it is now... Largely ignored because CMs don't make enough to care or subject themselves to the abuse.

Disney doesn't ban people for breaking a minor park rule. The smokers aren't criminals for goodness sake.
I realize you'd like to wish this new policy away but it's here for good and compliance will occur. As I stated, the objective is for voluntary compliance. Non-smoker complaints to management will ensure full implementation.

I emailed Bob Chapek to inquire about the changes-

Before I even go into the rest of that-

I don’t really care that they moved it to the entrance. I barely smoke when I am there 2-3 times in a long park open-park close day.

My concerns were will I have to stand back in line to re enter the park? Do I have to go through security again? Another line?
Can I have my cigarettes with me?

Back to my email-
I sent it Thursday night, by 3:00 yesterday, they called me.

A very nice lady called me and asked those questions since our vacation started 3 days after the change.

So to answer the questions I asked -

You will have to re enter and get back in line.

They don’t know if you will have to go through security, as they have not put plans in place yet.

You can have all items with you.

So to smoke, you will be punished, by having to waste your day in lines.

And how ridiculous is it that they can say this change goes into effect this day, but can’t tell people booked and paid for, that it affects, where or what we will need to do to smoke.

And last- What a nightmare this will be because most people probably are not like me. I hated the smoking areas that used to be more in common areas. The changes they made, making them more off the beaten path was much needed. I also do not break rules. It is the same to me as stealing or cheating. The people that don’t have that mindset, will not go through all of that to smoke. They will light up wherever.

To the people hoping they won’t allow them in the park, that is not happening per Chapek’s office phone call.

Ya’ll have fun with that!

And lastly, lastly- lol

I canceled my trip. Not because of the change, but because I think it is absolutely insane that they can institute a major change like this, going into effect, 30 some odd days away, and cannot tell me, an AP holder with a paid for vacation any plans that they have, other than I will have to go back through the line, and they are not keeping people from having them. That is so not cool.

I would not have cared to exit to smoke, a couple of times a day- I think there should be an area that is away and you have to access only from the park. Even that wasn’t what made me cancel, it was that they having nothing to tell people that have already booked and paid.

Does this mean I am never going back? Nope. Just means I am calling BS on making a change and not having any details in place when you announce it. I will see them in 2020, I am sure. But in the meantime- I will enjoy reading about how it all plays out whilst munching on my 🍿😬

The new policy is working already and it hasn't even been implemented yet! Yeah Disney.

Even though I'm not in favor of smoking in the parks, I fully support your anger at how they're going about this. Like I said: it's really crappy to put a policy into effect, not really enforce it beyond asking them to move, and then leaving your hourly folks to handle it. Meanwhile, you've got tons of security folks standing around at the check points, diddling their thumbs. Then, you can find groups of leads/managers walking around with trash grabbers, yapping away.

Sorry you won't be going this year. Hopefully this gets worked out in a reasonable fashion.

They must be a non smoker to make a claim like that. Sometimes, even for just 5 minutes once or twice during a long day it does help
As I said, in the long run it increases stress. Article 1 Article 2

Wasn't aware you couldn't just google things yourself. There are plenty of articles out there that will confirm what you are saying about immediate stress relief, but there are articles that will explain that it's only a short term affect not long term.

I mean, you should be able to figure that out without me having to point out articles, since you all are upset and stressed that you won't be able to get your fix in a Disney park anymore.

why would Disney care if guests are under the influence of marijuana? In general it makes people mellow, more tolerant, easily amused, and increases appetite. Sounds like the ideal guest. And if it does become federally legal for recreational use I can see Disney selling themed edibles like Goofy's Groovy Gummies and Mickey's Magical Muffins.

Thanks, like I said, I will still go, it just seems uncool that they can put something in place- and not be able to tell you when your trip is so soon. I would have still went, if it hadn’t been that don’t value the guest enough to have it worked out in advance of the announcement. That was my problem.

I have been so much, it didn’t really faze me that much. Putting a new deck around the pool, adding a hot tub, staying 2 weeks at the beach instead with the refund, and going to enjoy Carowinds and Dollywood, two close parks we often ignore.

But will you enjoy it as much as you would have enjoyed being at Disney, even with the added inconvenience of having to leave and reenter the parks?

ETA: What email address did you write to?
