I said it on the Facebook page and on other Disney group pages: if you can't go a day without lighting up, it's time to admit you have a problem.

I've actually seen people post that they won't go anymore and these were people with kids and families. So you mean to tell me that your precious cancer is more important than making memories with your loved ones? That's sad.

whats sad is the lack of compromise.....most of the areas were already gone leaving a few designated areas. the fact that people think THATS a problem is no more absurd than familys skipping vacation. its really big in europe and asian and south America.....the rest of the world. let people live how they want cancer or not its there decision not yours.

I'm thankful the smoking is going to get completely banned from all parks.
Why? because a lot of people DIDNT CARE and were literally smoking while going around in the park areas and not in the specific areas for that.
To make thing worse.. Started to see a huge uphill of those vapers with their obnoxious amounts of smoke (aka "look at me, I vape!" crowd ).

If this is true, then the ban will be useless. Because unlike selfie sticks (where they will stop the rides to ask you to remove or get rid of the stick) You can quickly smoke, dip the cigar or vape out.. and claim you did nothing wrong just to later start smoking elsewhere.

two things....vap is not smoke and disney has a track record of amazingly lax enforcement of any sort of rules. hence why what you said occured.

The state I live in does not have any requirements for breaks being given to non-minor employees. My company has mandated scheduled rest and meal breaks, though.

The point was more that he was acting like the evil smoker employees that he accidentally hires take too many breaks. Seems like a basic leadership skill to be able to tell your employees that they can't take excessive breaks. If one of mine asked me if they could go smoke outside of a scheduled break, I would just tell them no.
My job is such that I have very busy, very slow, and middle-of-the-road busy times. Even in the very busy times, there are often small chunks of time where I'm doing nothing but standing around waiting for equipment to finish doing what it's doing. My boss has zero issue with me sneaking outside for 3 minutes to grab a quick smoke as long as I'm productive. I'm part of a two-man team that raised efficiency and productivity in our department by nearly 30%.

But... but... You're an evil smoker! There's no way you ever get any work done! You're too busy thinking about sucking down three packs a day!

In all seriousness, it's quite amusing to see all these non-smokers reducing smokers down to this cartoon villain stereotype. Tying the fair maiden to the train tracks while they laugh and blow smoke from their fifth cigarette of the hour into the face of a disabled kitten. It's ridiculous.

I'll say again that I don't smoke, but I've also never in nearly 32 years of being alive had any struggle to avoid being around smoke if I didn't want to be. I have, however, been hit by multiple ECVs being driven by drunk drivers at Epcot. Perhaps we should set up our own straw man here and call for a blanket ban on alcohol! Another habit that often affects both the user and those around him.

Not really a smoking comment, but are you aware that in the developed economies health and safety regulations require that people working with on-screen technologies have to take mandatory breaks every hour to prevent health problems developing. If your company is not providing these breaks -- regardless of whether you are a smoker -- you are being abused.
I think its worded that you have to take a "break " from the screen, not a break from work. At my company it's a 10 min break from screen time. We by no means can go have a coffee break or smoke. Basically it's stand up, stretch, focus your eyes on other things.

Which a smoker could accomplish while going to have a cigarette. (Not disagreeing with your company's policy...just making a point.)

DH and I talked about this just now. Neither of us smoke, but he said one theory of his was something along the lines that TDC might be doing this to cut down park foot traffic. I asked him how did you come about that conclusion. He said "1, they jacked up the prices and 2 they are now doing this....OR...they are trying to get people to buy more park hoppers"

I don't think it is either. I'm a smoker who follows the rules, and my bet is that random smoking and butts on the ground everyplace becomes a thing. The rule-breakers can be a rowdy bunch and with WDW's track record with enforcing rules...

  1. Life isn't fair.
  2. Disney isn't required to be fair.
  3. Smoker is not a protected class.
  4. Disney is private. They can ban smoking inside the Parks, selfie sticks and even shirts in mustard yellow, acid green and violet if they want to (although I'm not sure why, except for the ugliness of those colors together, they'd want to).
  5. A couple thousand people choosing not to visit Disney Parks due to the smoking ban isn't going to phase them at all.

So happy they’ve done something about this. Smell cigarette smoke numerous times where I should not have. Thank you Disney!
Smokers have been sarcastically thanking Disney for their selection of smoking areas for years...they've always been in lousy locations. Believe me, smokers would prefer to be far away from where we'd bother non-smokers.

No, but random smoking in the parks and having to clean up messes everywhere instead of just a couple of locations might.

As many who work or have worked in the parks have said multiple times now, this is likely to be the same as your username in implementation.
