Agree completely. Adding the characters from Finding Nemo into The Living Seas was a no brainer. The problem is that the characters, instead of being incorporated into the pavilion, took it over and completely changed its theme. What should be a pavilion focusing on the oceans has instead become focused on Nemo.

Good to see the repaving progress in Innoventions. And only one more whirly gig/twirly pole/spinny thing to go! I never minded those things, but the plaza does look much better without them.
I think the saddest part is that most of the aspects of SeaBase are still there and performed daily:

The scuba demonstration in the big tube is performed multiple times a day, a dolphin presentation 3 times a day, the fish feed twice a day, scuba divers and scuba Mickey, etc. Its also still the second largest aquarium in the world (by size, not number of creatures), yet the guide map doesn't even mention any of this. Its all downplayed by the Nemo ride.

Really? They still do the scuba demonstration?? I've wondered but I haven't been able to catch it going on in years! I did notice water in the tube, but wasn't sure if that was just for show.

The fiber optic lighting in the concrete is something that is something I LOVED as a kid. i hope it stays.

I still remember when my oldest son was 5 or 6 just being amazed at the little lights in the concrete as he bent down trying to figure out "where'd they go?" as they faded in and out. Sometimes it's the little things...

There removing the big poles and the triangle tarps? Is that the overhang your referring too?

And HMF says YES

If they move the whirly gigs into the planters that are already there to just reuse them would be OK. But getting those things out of the walkways

Hurray!!!!!

Now just destroy those awful Tarps and we can have open walkways again, (Maybe they thought they should do this because of what they are doing at the MK with the old FL skyway station area.To improve traffic flow for people in the park)

Now just build or repurpose an area and take either the whole LAL stones or just the tiles in a new display there so we can have an open area at the front as well.

Another thing checked off the list of things to restore Epcot to its original glory

Done:
Wand off SSE
SSE's supports lose LaL design
Tarps(hopefully) and spinny things come down

To go:
LaL blown up
Remove Nemo and donald from rides
Fix Imagination

We're getting closer...

Amen to that! Especially Nemo!

Are the areas with the fiber optic lighting embedded in the concrete still there or is this work in a different area?

Liking the clean-cut look and glad someone finally asked this. The fiber optic lighting in the sidewalks is an effect that still looks great (lackluster maintenance notwithstanding). I'd like to see the moving patterns and the twinkling star fields retained and restored.

Yep, all of that stuff is still done several times a day.
nemo needs to go and bring back the old Living seas!
Really? You want the annoyingly long pre-show and 1 minute ride back?

Lets look at it without nostalgia colored glasses: it wasn't that good.

Hey if they start ripping out the Tarps someone tell me OK.

I will come down there just to watch them get ripped out of EPCOT!

Yea, I'll be the one jumping up and down yelling HURRAY, handing out leaflets on how this is the day EPCOT was saved from the evil Tarps and high five everyone in sight.

Raven, get some photos or video of this if it happens.

I'm a lurker here, but had to share...

Rode Nemo tonight, the scenes at the end with the aquariums were bright...you could see the real fish, I've never seen it lit up! My husband thought maybe they just turn on the aquarium lights at night and we've only ridden during the day? Can anyone confirm? Or, was it once lit up, but was dark for years? My son was enchanted seeing all the fish "with Nemo". We even saw the dolphin swim by.

Also, the giant fish with the teeth and light bulb thing on him, I swear that had just been a screen all these years, but tonight he almost lept into our clam mobile! Has it always been a robotic arm and I just truly never noticed?

It was a wayyyy cooler ride with these added!

And on the plaza talk, we miss the whirligigs.

The scenes with the Nemo characters in the real tank has always been that way. Did you perhaps ride really late at night when the aquarium lights were turned off?

Also, the Angler Fish has always been on a robotic arm, it just wasn't working for a while.

Undecided on the whirligigs. Part of me likes them for bringing some kinetics to Innoventions Plaza, part of me agrees that they are simply visual clutter that looks like something you might find in the food court of your local shopping mall. On the other hand, there are some much more attractive ways of bringing kinetics in.

Agree with everyone that says the tarps must come down... and more importantly, the big ugly poles that hold them up.

As for Nemo... it wasn't that the ride was great before, it was that the concept was so much more inspiring and EPCOT like. I agree that the ride/pavilion needed a redo, but I would have liked to see more of a technological and experiential upgrade to the existing concept then yanking it out in favor of Nemo.

They've been working on redoing the entire Red & White area (the one mentioned) for the past 4 weeks and stil have a couple more weeks to go. The whirly-gigs are being stored backstage next to UOE for now.

I definitely agree that the old living seas wasn't that good. However, it fit with Epcot. Right now to me The Seas with Nemo sticks out oddly front its signage out front being overly cartoony with the lovable but random "mine" birds. It's just an odd addition.

I would much rather see the area revamped with a new ride design. Keep the ride through the aquarium...its nice and relaxing...but have an addition "deep sea" simulator or something inside.
