Skyway Station Area Redesign

I wouldn't be surprised. I read most of this thread so long ago I can't recall, but have we had anyone bemoaning the loss of this Skyway station with the usual, "...that Skyway station just always screamed DISNEY to me and I cannot fathom the park without it...it won't ever be the same and I will refuse to ever set foot in that park again...instead I will flagellate myself with this reproduction Dumbo trunk that I hand crafted from Walt's own tears..."?

That surprises me greatly if not. Hilarious rant though!

Made it all the way to page 2 without someone complaining about this one.

Aaaaaaaaand there they are. I can't believe anyone would complain about this space being repurposed into ANYTHING. They could just tear it down and leave it an empty space. Instead we're getting, probably, nicely themed restrooms and I believe I heard someone mention stroller parking. Is the building nice? Absolutely! It's beautiful. But its purpose is no longer relevant now that Skyway has been gone for so long. To me, it's the same as if the Mad Tea Party were to shut down. But instead of making way for something new, they just let it sit there. It's useless.

you know i looked at that building in fantasyland the last time we were there and wondered what it was. amazing that it was the old skyway building, i never knew! i wanted to go and explore it lol.
shame to take it down because it's a nice building but i hope they put something good in it's place.

Went in it many times. It was far more majestic from the outside.

Does it appear to anyone else that they may be attempting to salvage parts of the structure? I realize work has just begun, but from the pictures it looks as if the removal is localized (a bit taken from here & there rather than simply taking the CATs in...)

Is this normal in demo work? Perhaps they want the removal to appear less dramatic since its in such a high traffic, visible location?

Or perhaps it's just wishful thinking on my part?

Due to the location of the building it's probably not possible to get heavy machinery in there to demolish the building. There could also be hazardous materials in parts of the structure that require it to be taken apart much more carefully. For example there are some fairly new regulations about how materials containing lead paint must be handled during demolition.

Make room for something new. The restrooms have needed to be made larger for years since they are the most crowded restrooms in the park.

Looks like wishful thinking. They can't exactly swing a wrecking ball in that area. Looks like a pretty standard manual demolition to me.

I was devastated when the Skyway was closed. I'm glad they are finally doing something with the building. Glad they didn't wait until it fell in on itself.

I don't really miss the other more famous closed rides as much as I miss the Skyway. (Perhaps because I remember it so vividly, and the others not as much.)

I too remember the skyway vividly. Rode it dozens of times on multiple trips both as a child and as a teenager. It closed when I was in college.

I never liked Mr. Toad's Wild ride. People's nostalgia wins out on that one. No one will ever convince me that it was a good ride.

Alien Encounter and Timekeeper were my two favorite all time extinct attractions at the MK. The audio tracks on MWW always remind me of how much I enjoyed the well written story in both. Timekeeper was the victim of a type of attraction not many care for (360 vision) and Alien Encounter was just in the wrong park. If AE was in Hollywood Studios it is my opinion it would still be there today.
