Skyway Station Area Redesign

Funny, I bet people would wait in line to go in the utilidors. Even though there isn't much special about them, they are so storied the line would be down main street.

Yeah I don't get the infatuation with them. When I worked there I didn't see the big deal going down around through boring tunnels. There's nothing special to see down there...aside from the stuff in the character zoo/costuming.

That is the thing. You work there, you see them every day and the shine has come off. For those that have never seen them before they are this fascinating enigma that only a privileged, select few get to set eyes on. It does not matter that they are really nothing more than grey cinder block hallways with exposed pipes and wiring running along the ceiling simply because the average Joe simply can not go in them whenever they please.

No. I WORKED There. And the FIRST time I went in there, I was not impressed in the least. There's nothing to see down there.

I know. I have been there as well. The Blarney stone is nothing more than a rock but it does not stop people from traveling half way across the world to see it. The legend is often quite different than reality but it never stops people from wanting to see it for themselves.

I know right? But people would still line up.

But they're hallways that happen to have a nifty name. That's branding 101 right there. Walt Disney could effectively sell a hallway to people that have no interest in hallways, whatsoever.

 That was my initial reaction, too. I had to keep telling myself, "It's really cool!" because it just looks like a hallway with warehouse ceilings.

Wellll - there IS one thing we loved. Probably not so much for the general public....

We managed to get a pretty decent look-see at the control computers for a number of the attractions - right down to a good look at some of the custom I/O processor boards. Sandy & I are retired Computer Geeks - and I designed & build control systems (for process control & Chemical Process Automation). We LOVED this stuff - very retro :).

does that mean they have the classic smell, sound, and floors of a data center? My dad is an system admin, and I have distinct memories of a data center from the late 80's to the 90's. Oh and playing that title game that Microsoft sold win 3.1, tapei something. And watching taped episodes of murphy brown, someone in his department liked them.
