Trip Report Sixth Sense - " I see a LOT of people" - a Max Trip Report - COMPLETED

Hello All
Welcome to my first trip report in almost 3 years.
I will spare you the usual sob story of how vacations were booked and cancelled due to - you know - that thing we do not like to talk about much anymore.

Above from Left to right we have Stephanie (DD) , Tricia (DW) and Cassie (DD) in the front row
And Jordan (SIL), me ( Max, Andrew, Drew, Clarence) and Shane.

The last trip for me and Tricia was Nov 2019 to Disneyland.
The entire group last went in Dec 2018 to WDW.

The 2018 trip was a celebration of Steph and Jordan being engaged (married on Oct 5, 2019)

This trip we have another engaged couple!!

Shane popped the question in March 2022 and Cassie of course said yes!

Dates - Sunday Oct 2 - Sunday Oct 9
Stayed at the Dolphin - three separate rooms for the three couples

The title you ask?

Well six people went to WDW and arrived just a few days after a hurricane blew through - we thought crowds might dip - boy were we wrong!!

My line as I was commando-ing the fam around the parks and getting whining was, you can sleep when you're dead!
One time I went to Disney in a walking boot/torn ligaments, and we were at HS and the Beauty and the Beast show was getting ready to start and I headed off at a quick clip and I heard my daughter behind me say, even that d**n boot doesn't slow her down!

Glad you got a discount for the noise. (Was this a big construction project going on, or was it just one issue they were working on?)

it was a major renovation taking place in a wing that had people staying in it - should not have been the case

Is it wrong to be jealous of a little stuffed Tigger and his photo shoot?

Day 9 - Last morning at Disney and travel home

So I woke up in bad shape and decided to stay back at the hotel and finish up the packing
Jordan was also not feeling well

Tricia, Stephanie, Cassie and Shane went to DHS

Hopefully they can fill in the details - I only have a few pictures so I am guessing

Rope dropped Tower and rode twice (is what I was told)

Cassie and Shane went to Galazy's Edge to do shopping

Cassie and Shane rode the skyliner for a bit

Day 8 cont'd Sunday Oct 9

Packed up the SUV - it was again not a good condition - too many people and luggage for that vehicle
Check out the plate @Loco_driver !!

Went to Disney Springs - lunch at Earl of Sandwich - sorry no pics on my phone

Checked out the LEGO store

Did not buy much (or anything?) - way too crowded - a zoo if you will

The airport was OK - long line to drop off bags but we were able to get home okay

And then this was the result on the Monday

5 of 6 of us tested positive - Stephanie did not but we think she had it first and was done by the time we got back home.
Good thing we all wore masks on the plane

Aftermath:

So COVID knocked us out - some more than others - nothing serious - just a really bad case of the flu

My work rules to get back in were the most strict since I needed 24 hrs symptom free (headache/cough/fever) and 48 hours ( digestive)

For me it was like a Brad Pitt movie about Fly fishing ( go ahead - google it!)

I did not go to work until Friday Oct 21 - 9 days on leave

So I give you this

1) My step count
2) My daily spending
3) My daily food consumption


I will do a wrap up post next with final thoughts

Wrap up:

I think I am going to sound like a broken record on this one

1) The parks are too busy - they do not have the ride capacity or do not staff the rides to have enough capacity to service the number of guests
2) Have and Have nots - If you do not buy Genie + or ILL you will wait in long lines (like we did - Slinky 90 min) or skip attractions ( almost all my favourites in Magic Kingdom)
3) Value is on the decline - I am always willing to pay top dollar if I am getting a valuable product or service - this is no longer the case at Walt Disney World
4) Dolphin - never say never but.... - The Swan and Dolphin are substandard hotels in an amazing location - I do not think I will ever return to them- again because I do not think I am getting value for my dollar
5) New rides for us were (almost) all big hits - We had been away for almost 3 years so we loved Rise and GOG, Remy and Mickey's train were cute
6) Food and Wine - super busy but a pleasant surprise for me - I did not think I would enjoy visting the booths and walking around eating as I did - I was wrong!!
7) Grain of Salt - I realize that I was not at my best for this week - I was coming off an ankle injury and got sick - but as I look back I do not think my analysis is too harsh - I think I am being fair of what we got this time compared to the other 12 times I have visited the Florida parks.

Well that is enough for now

You probably ( hopefully/ maybe) are considering what is next for Max and the family

Well we have a wedding on Star Wars day - May the Fourth be with you
Cassie and Shane will honeymoon in Jamaica in mid May
Steph and Jordan are trying to decide on a location for their honeymoon ( married Oct 2019 and have not done it yet)- sometime in May or June

Tricia and I will return to Florida - May 29-June 4 - it will be the first time since 1991 that it will be just the two of us
Hoping to meet up with some fellow trip reporters
Let me know if you will be at/near WDW during that time

And we are looking into a longer trip (2-3weeks) in November to Japan to see her brother.
(potential for Tokyo Disney and maybe even Hong Kong Disney)
This one is still in the planning stage

I want to thank everyone who followed along and especially those who added to the report by replying
and a special thanks to my co-contributors - I know that others (@riverside ) are jealous of you helping me with this TR

I do these reports for a few reasons

1) It brings back memories as I write them (good, bad and ugly)
2) I like to entertain and to inform people of what is going on at the parks
3) And I cannot miss an opportunity to embarrass my kids

Thanks for sharing your trip. Your sentiments about the park are a reason why we haven’t been visiting as often as we once did. Hopefully things will calm down a bit in the future! Sorry you ended up getting sick!

Sorry you got sick! We got Covid after our summer trips, but the symptoms were pretty mild. Kiddos just had it over the December school break, but they had no symptoms at all. Hoping we don’t get it again at the end of the month…

Day 9 - Last morning at Disney and travel home

Last day plan for me was ride Tower.. which we did two times. That ride is one of my favourites.

After that Stephanie and I did some last minute shopping in Hollywood Studios. Was worried that Max would be mad that he would have to find room for more souvenirs so I kept shopping to a minimum.

I agree with all your points (except the Dolphin because, well I never stayed there). I have the same philosophy. I don't want to feel like I'm getting ripped off on a vacation - starting to get close with Disney with the Genie+ and all the other nickle and diming.

Glad we have the same philosophy and I will pass along the wishes - although @MiniMax will hopefully be along to read your post for herself
