Anyway the details aren't really all that gory, just disgusting. He was eating steak for dinner Friday night and after swallowing a bite, it just stuck in his esophagus, because it had seized almost completely shut. He could breathe fine, but could not swallow. Anything. Being stubborn (and male), he waited till Saturday evening to go to the ER, where they quickly transferred him to the OR and removed the food. Today, he went for a short procedure in which they actually stretch the esophagus, allowing for a more normal opening. This was the second time he had this done. Last time was a year ago. Apparently this is a pretty common condition. I'm just grateful that they could fix it so quickly, without actually having to cut him. He came home 2 hours after the procedure and ordered Chinese food. His first solid food since Friday!
