A two minute search, and my suspicions were confirmed.
There are multitudes of "register your pet as a service pet" "Take your pet anywhere!" websites available online.

Like this one? That with 3 easy steps, the last being checkout... and $64.95 plus shipping.... your fish can become your emotional support fish, certificate and card to prove...

https://www.nsarco.com/emotional-support-animal.html

Agree with @James Norris, sites likes these delegitimize service animals... and should be shut down.

So I went through the three steps on the website I posted a link to. If I don't have a licensed therapist who has diagnosed me as having one of the qualified disabilities listed or my therapist refuses to provide said documentation, then Chilhowee Psychological Services, "a licensed and legitimate mental health agency who specializes in online disability assessments and offers a letter of prescription to clients who qualify", will be more than happy to diagnose me.... online....

Don't know what's worse...fake certificates... or fake online therapists.....

Btw, I am a nervous flyer.... guess I can bring my pet frog on the plane. sarcasm... don't have a pet frog...

On this page right now is an ad for the ASPCA....that $65 needs to go to them, not some bogus online ESA fake certificate site...

Because an animal harnessed and on a leash is "properly harnessed". They make restraints to buckle your dog in a car seat. If I purchased a seat for my certified emotional support dog, placed it in said mentioned restraint and buckled to the seat belt in the seat next to me, it's "properly harnessed" - and safe. If United or any other airlines wanted to restrict large dogs, then they would have included a maximum weight, but they didn't.

Read ALL three sentences of the policy you provided, rather than cherry picking one.

To quote, "Service animals must be properly harnessed for the duration of the flight. Small animals may remain in the passenger's lap during the flight. If a carrier will be used, it must meet the USDA guidelines and fit under the aircraft seat."

Ok, that's what I get for trying to respond on my lunch break. You win. The point of my posting the policy was more for the requirement of a medical professional signing off on the Emotional Support Animal as opposed to Disney letting in a monkey in diaper, not necessarily the size of the animal.

Oh, okay. I understand... But it probably goes back to safety for passengers and flight crew. If an uncertified ESA goes berserk on an aircraft, that can have more serious consequences than someone's purse dog pooping on Main Street.

Just think what would happen if @Mr Ferret 88 ESA snakes got out of their box trying to eat my ESA frog. And Samuel Jackson wasn't on board.... ;)
