I am bringing this up because I read on another Disney site over an 2 hours ago that over 1,000 selfie sticks were confiscated at the Magic Kingdom already today on Christmas eve:banghead:.

I think Disney needs to go a step further with selfie sticks since guests since having over a 1,000 self stick confiscated in a day shows guests aren't getting the message about selfie sticks aren't allowed in the park. It is one thing if the selfie stick rules were recently in place, but they already have been in place for 6 months.

Punishments?

What is this, Walt Disney's Armed Camp and Oppressive Regime?

1000 when they're in a Phased Close, so at the very least 65,000 guests or More?

I think that things are absolutely fine the way they are. Thank god you're not in charge of guest relations.

Yes, an absolute fine would be great!

Narcissistic actions, such as selfies and selfie sticks should not be allowed on property.

Could be a lot of these people haven't been there in a while and just aren't aware of the new rules in place.
It has been over 6 months since selfie sticks were not allowed in a WDW theme park. I was at WDW back in late August and I recalled having signs before getting in line for entering the park stating no self sticks allowed.

Right about now there are probably 10,000 to 20,000 people in airplanes or their cars who have never been to Disney. Likewise it probably never occurred to them that they needed to research park rules.

Do you really think there should be punishment?
Yes

These are the same people that will be lined up at City Hall complaining that they can't get into any restaurant and can't get on any attractions without a 3-4 hour wait because they failed to do any planning whatsoever.

I'm thinking that reverting back to the good old, and quite effective, act of being drawn and quartered is just about the proper punishment for those people that force us to actually look where we are going. Down with the scoundrels.
Personally, I don't care one way of the other, but, in my observations the sticks actually create a situation where less room is used up for self photos. At least a lot less then having someone take your picture standing 10 feet away and taking up all kinds of room.
I do see that using them on rides and some other places can be a little dangerous.

Might be but there are signs at each park before entry. So even if they haven't researched park rules entirely beforehand, they should see it when they arrive.

I found it annoying when someone just took out their stick at the Osborne Lights and waved it around like Harry Potters wand...

Maybe we could scare them off by adding they will be added as a part of Haunted Mansion lol

If the ban shown prominently on Disney web page, or are guests told about this when they book tickets? I would assume most guests don't read the park rules ahead of time, so it's not surprising that a lot of people would still show up at the gate with them.

This is the first I'm hearing that they aren't allowed.

I know all about the National Park Service ban, they've done a good job of communicating the ban. And they've done a good job of telling people about their drone ban.

I'm a selfie-stick and drone hater. But you can't harsh about it until you've made sure their is no room for mistakes.
