No its just a selfie stick. People don't usually have bad intentions when using a selfie stick lol. Still not sure why they are banned. Why are you worried about this?

Tell the person that lost their eye on the roller coaster when some idiot with a selfie stick accidently let go of it and it hit the person a few cars back in the face at 50mph.... That's why they should be banned, they pose a very real danger to others.... If the only person to be injured was the person that had the selfie stick I wouldn't care at all... But you or I might be the poor victim on the ride that gets hit by it when it gets dropped or just slips from the users hands.

They are banned from a safety standpoint on rides and guests tend not pay attention to their surrounds when using them. People actually have mention that the people with the self stick almost poked guests in the eye by the people with the selfie stick not paying attention to where they taking it out.

Disney originally banned them on rides, but Guests were still taking them out on the rides.

Guests actually used Self sticks on rides like what happened at Disney California Adventure on California Scream' roller coaster. A person taking the self stick out on California Scream' actually caused the entire ride to be Evacuated.

One of the reasons I am concerned is due to the fact whenever a selfie stick is found in line before entering a theme park, it slows the line down for big checks. Back in early September of last year at the Magic Kingdom, I had wait additional time in line because a self stick was on one the guests ahead of me. It took an additional 4 to 5 minutes to get past the bag check point. The amount of time gets worse by each self stick is found.

Besides waiting in line longer, I am concern about the selfie sticks from a safety standpoint due to Selfie stick users not paying attention when using them.

I say one that was sneaked into MK during my last trip matter of fact and this a concern like or not. If the guest uses the selfie stick on an attraction, all guests to leave the attraction. The other issue if a guest sneaks in a self stick is the selfie stick user not looking and hits me by accident.

Is it just me or is there massive potential to take this same discussion and talk about other things and not need to change a single word other then selfie sticks.

Disney needs to do better bag checks then and make sure they catch all the buggers and then simply say 2 options throw it away or return it to your car, the whole claim slip thing is being to nice

To be fair, they don't make that rule very obvious. I know we know about the rule, but the average person going to WDW probably isn't quite as up to date as those of us always on the forums and seeing what is going on at least on a weekly, if not close to daily, basis. Though, I didn't really run into any issues with them this past December. A few people had them, but were surprisingly not obnoxious with them, so it didn't bother me.

It's sort of silly.
They announce on the bus and monorails this rule as well, it's along with the no smoking rule.

At least, back in October I heard it on the Bus. I could be wrong.

Take selfie stick away. Ask if they know miranda. Problem solved.

Selfie sticks should be snapped in half right in front of the owner. They are worse that those people who hold up the tablet during Wishes and parades.

Kick their a$$es out for the day.

Punishments?

What is this, Walt Disney's Armed Camp and Oppressive Regime?

1000 when they're in a Phased Close, so at the very least 65,000 guests or More?

I think that things are absolutely fine the way they are. Thank god you're not in charge of guest relations.

god has nothing to do with this.......zing

Where were they confiscated? We saw some confiscated during security checks at the entrance & I suspect this is were the 1000 taken today were found, therefore no harm no foul.

Its not actually that easy to find out about this unless you are an uber planner especially for overseas visitors. Perhaps getting that information detailed in the holiday brochures would be helpful?

i think people should realize in ANY ENVIRONMENT selfie sticks are rude and just silly. Disney world or not. i saw a couple pull over and bust it on in front of the Harvard university sign up here.

Early Dec. we were on Main Street and a couple of knot heads had their self-centered-stick out in the middle of the street trying to get a shot of themselves with the castle (two feet from a Photopass guy) and two "plainclothes" CM came from out of nowhere and moved them off to the side and gave them a talking to, a claim slip and took the stick. (golf clap! yeah!)

i think upon confiscation there should be no chance to get it back...to the crusher!

I think the punishment is dependent on the use. Look, if someone smuggles in a selfie stick and is caught taking a picture on Main Street...confiscate it and they can retrieve it when they leave. Now if someone is using a selfie stick on Space Mountain (during the ride) .. well., now bans start becoming a part of the conversation.

Think about it... the guy two cars in front of you on Space Mountain tries to take a selfie using a selfie stick as he rounds a corner, but loses the stick (and probably his phone). Forget about the phone or stick hitting somebody in free fall. Do you you want to be in the car behind him if the stick falls on the track and gets wedged........Nothing good is going to happen there.

ZOMG, they didn't ask the Harvard photpass guy to take the picture for them? (GASP)

Or perhaps you cant trust the thieving barsteward not to ****** off the minute you hand over your property. Though if you had a selfie stick you could twat them on the head with it.

As I said, it represents so much wrong with our world. You think handing a person your camera to take a picture couldn't have resulted in them running off with it? No one trusts anyone anymore.
