Here's the deal. We stayed in Florida during Hurricane Charley and survived - but there was MASS damage. We evacuated to NC during Hurricane Frances because it seemed that it would be far more powerful, hitting us more directly. This storm didn't do a thing in our neighborhood.

But should Grizz evacuate again for IVAN? If this one hits here, it will probably be more like Charley.

Whatcha think?

Ride it out... (evac... If you're told to do so) but not earlier... :D

If the eye of a Cat 4 or 5 hurricane is headed your way...RUN...if not ride it out (unless you're told to evacuate).

I hate hurricanes...:(

Wait a few days to see the track. Ivan looks bad, but if it comes up through the south, it might die down before it hits Orlando. (Of course, Charley took that path and did more to Orlando than Frances did, so what do I know?)

How do you feel about it

as a joke I voted with the majority

Seriously, If you feel comfortable riding out any storm in your home, then possibly you should consider staying!
I'm from Kitty Hawk and we have had quite a few over the last 20 yrs and the only time I evacuated was last year and that was for convienience, because I have a 4 yr old now.(Luckily we did , because the electricity was out for 4 days)

In any case, you be the judge. If you have a well built house and live in a region that does not flood easily, I would stay.

The only real consequences to consider is if for any reason you are injured during the storm emergency personnel may not be able to reach you in order to treat or help you!

The way I feel is the chances of being killed or hurt are slim. Considering all the things that nature presents us, tornados, floods, lightning and the likes, we stand a great chance of not being injured.
All the other stuff is just that, stuff. Things can be replace, people can't.

Judge your situation and do what you really feel in your heart!

Aww Grizz, I can't tell you what to do. That's far too much responsibility

Whatever you do, be careful! if it was me I'd head out as soon as it began to look like trouble.

Ditto...have everything packed. If it turns toward you and shows no signs of weakening, I'd skedaddle. Good luck, Grizz!

I look at it this way, Grizz. You rode out Charley and there was a fair amount of damage. You left when Frances approached and there was nothing wrong in your neighborhood. If you hear that it could be major and headed your way, get the hell out of Dodge and save everyone else some trouble since Ivan will then suddenly drop to Cat 1 and do nothing.

ab.....Charley - Cat 3 - comes in from the west

de.....Frances - Cat 4 - comes in from the east

gh.....Ivan - Cat 5 - from this mornings projection I would say
its' coming up thru the Keys and into the tip
of Florida thru Miami. It should drop some of
it's intensity after destroying Jamaica, so I would
stay since i'ts gotta chew through a lot of land
before hitting Central Fla...........

What? Didn't enjoy that rather L O N G drive up to the Carolinas?

Grizz,

Just wait until you hear a more promising viewpoint of where the storm is going to go. That's what my family is doing down here, and believe me, we've heard 4 different paths already! Wait a bit, until it gets more serious for FLA.

And take some time off from your computer, will ya? :animwink:

Grizz, leave your cave and come stay with me here in the suburbs of Chicago! We have plenty to do here and I've got plenty of room in my house for you as well. Of course, I'll keep you away from Chicago as I'm sure you don't want more wind than necessary as Chicago is the "windy city." As for anyone else in FL that wishes to leave, my house is open!

Yes, so named for the hot-aired politicians  There is a fair amount of wind off the lake though.

This is one of the very few times of year our weather is actually nicer than Florida's. You guys still have us beat for the rest of the year  I'm praying hard for this one to miss you. Take care down there and BE CAREFUL. Same goes for the rest of the Gulf!!
