Should Disney advertise more to teens ans young adults?

Think for yourselfer
Yes they should. My fiance and I go every year, but none of our friends get it. They think Disney is for little girls, the reason they think this is because of the marketing push. Disney is directing everything they have at little girls. Commercials, expansions(see FL), merch(see any store packed to the brim with princesses).

It is actually beginning to take some serious effort to avoid being overwhelmed by little girl marketed nonsense in the parks. I just wish they would realize that they have a huge demographic that they are missing. Why only cater to little girls?

WDW in the middle to late 90's, use to run commercials towards young adults. They use to promote WDW as a honeymoon place. That is why we went there. Here is one adult commerical from 1995.

Loveee that first one, haha.

Maybe they are beginning. The acquisition of Marvel adds new twenty something characters to the lineup. Ironman 2 comes out soon and the fans who have seen the previews say it looks awesome. It may take some time to fully develop this angle for Disney.

Does anyone know what they're actually going to DO with the Marvel characters?

God bless the "Ignore" button.
Well, being a 21-year-old I can answer that question for about 90% of my demographic: We have no money.
Unless Mommy and Daddy are going to pay for it, there's very little chance of us winding up at WDW.

Unless you save for a year and a half and get very cheap flights.

^ That. Did that in 2007 and 2008.

2009 has thankfully been on them.:lol: Though, I did save up for our "extra" day in DHS.

During which time you will ride the Tower for me 3 times in a row ;)

But seriously, if you make an effort to save it's not THAT bad. So you skip a couple meals, no big :p

I respectfully disagree with this one.

I am 21 myself and have been to WDW 4 times with friends my age (or even younger) and we all paid our own way. Of course I am not saying it is cheap (my most recent trip with a rental car and uni/ioa tix was crazy) but it can be done. I don't think ALL young adults (18-25) can afford it but I think a lot can if they want to. Just think about how many teens go to Cancun or something for vacation.. Same thing to me.

Anyway back on topic, I think WDW should be marketing their thrills a little bit more. I really enjoyed the EE and ToT commercials while in WDW last week, and while not as effective if shown all around the country, I'm sure it couldn't hurt to show once or twice on ESPN or ABC.

Wow, so much has changed from the parks to the way they market them. I remember the shot of Mickey on top of SSE. I always thought that was so cool.

And Pleasure Island:(

Maybe it's not so much Harry Potter that bugs as much as it's the fanaticism around it. I saw one of the movies, meh. But I like Star Wars but you wouldn't catch me waiting over night for it.

Ok you're going to judge an entire series of 7 books over seeing ONE movie? Because movies are always EXACT clones of books, right? How can you form such a concrete negative opinion of something you are clueless about? And then you declare Universal to be total crap based on your unfounded judgement. Are you one of those people with a stubbornly contrary personality that automatic hates anything the general public loves?

These books have had over a decade of hype now...it's not just a passing fad like Furbies and Tickle Me Elmos. People love them because they're good books, not because they want to fit into some exclusive Harry Potter nerd clique.

Harry Potter at IOA is going to be amazing, just like every other thing that park has produced.

Does Disney need to market to teens? At this point I don't think they need to market to anyone. Both USA Disneys are completely mobbed every single day of the year. I would prefer they stop marketing for a while until they expand the properties they already run in order to be able to actually FIT all the people who visit inside them...which is what they are working on with the Fantasyland and DCA expansions.

They have been handing out some incredible discounts and perks toi get the parks full. Iger says they'll be cutting down in the fall. Let's see if they stay that full when that happens. This will tell us if people are going because they want to go to Disney above all else or if the discounts are making it worth it. If the parks are full simply because of the discounts that's a problem.

I'm sorry but wizardry and whatever else that little twirp gets into isn't my thing at all. Maybe it will be awesome at IOA but it doesn't appeal to me jeez.

Still doesn't mean it isn't going to be a very cool experience. I know people who hate Star Wars, and love Star Tours.

Besides, it's not like Disney didn't try and get Harry before Universal did.;)

Oh, I love it too. Doesn't mean I don't think there's room for improvement, nor do I believe Disney's marketing is the smartest in the world.

And flirting with college program cuties is much easier while on the college program...but that's a story for another time.:lookaroun
