Now, I don't knnow about you guys but whenever I see a disney parks commercial it's always all about young children or families with young children. However, I have never once seen a Disney Parks commercial that features families with teens or young adults. So, do you guys think that they should advertise to this demographic that they ignore, or, for those that are always at WDW, are there already plenty of teens and young adults walking around?

Of course there are plenty of "young adults" at WDW every day. There are a good number of things to do for that demographic, whether it be rides or personal time. Myself as a young adult has proven that someone like me can have a good time there. They just choose to show which is more profitable and/or more likely to visit. I would say yes, though, they have indeed forgotten that it's for "the young and the young at heart".

No. Dear god, NO!

Disney knows their target audience and who they have to sell to. They also know those who are hooked on going don't need advertising.

Plus, look at the more teen-centric advertising and the clientele of other parks, both theme and amusement.

Yup.

But first they need to build some more things for that crowd. And before everyone jumps down my throat, I'm not saying huge roller-coasters every where. Just make some nice thrill rides here or there.

I know plenty of people my age(early 20s) who love Disney, but get annoyed that Disney basically treats everyone like they're Pixiedust sniffers.

Yes. But don't go the level that Universal does which is just crap. I.E. Harry Potter? Really? Then there's CityWalk but don't get me started on that one...

I'd say there's a solid argument for both sides.

There's the no, because chances are if you are going to WDW when you're a young adult, you have younger siblings or have been when you were a child. I realize that this isn't the case for everyone, but I'd say generally... yeah.

However, a little more directed advertising to the young adults might be nice (love the 'pixie dust sniffers' reference, SirGoofy). The problem is, I don't really know how they'd do it without making it seem really, really lame. The kid commercials are adorable, people of any age can see that, but replace that kid with a 18-25 year old and it kind of loses it's luster. Advertising through the net would be a different story.

All taht being said.. I've got two newbies coming with me in May and they're more excited than any little kid I've ever seen, so there ya go.

Exactly. Make it a bit edgier...and more intelligent. Looking at you, Epic Mickey and EPCOT. ;)

I could think of an easy way.

Have a couple commercials focusing on parks other than the Magic Kingdom. If you watch Disney's commercials now, all you see are princesses and pirates. Change that up and advertise EPCOT, DHS, and DAK. Have an older gourp of people going on Tower of Terror, Everest, and Mission: Space. Show people in World Showcase and things of that nature.

Too much of the WDW marketing focus is solely on the MK. Switch it up a little bit and that could be the ticket.

Seriously? You're gonna hate on Potter?:veryconfu
Yes seriously :p I personally never could stand that whole book/movie series.
As it is I enjoy WDW completely for a lone traveler who is 21. Plus flirting with some of the college prgam cuties can be... interesting?

Still doesn't mean it isn't going to be a very cool experience. I know people who hate Star Wars, and love Star Tours.

Besides, it's not like Disney didn't try and get Harry before Universal did.;)

Oh, I love it too. Doesn't mean I don't think there's room for improvement, nor do I believe Disney's marketing is the smartest in the world.

And flirting with college program cuties is much easier while on the college program...but that's a story for another time.:lookaroun

Maybe it's not so much Harry Potter that bugs as much as it's the fanaticism around it. I saw one of the movies, meh. But I like Star Wars but you wouldn't catch me waiting over night for it.

Back to the subject at hand, marketing to teens in general is a bad idea since they only have the attention span of a gnat at best. Young adult crowd though could work though but you need to have something more for them and the what is a big question mark.

Again, exactly. The great thing about Disney, is that there is WAY more to Disney than "Disney". ;)

I think they should put that in the ads, hahaha.

Maybe they are beginning. The acquisition of Marvel adds new twenty something characters to the lineup. Ironman 2 comes out soon and the fans who have seen the previews say it looks awesome. It may take some time to fully develop this angle for Disney.

The commercials probably show the families because their the ones that come and stay for a week or two and spend big bucks to have all that family fun together. The teens or twenty somethings are probably more apt to pop in for a day or weekend.

A roller coaster here or there is fine, but too many would probably spoil the great atmosphere of the parks and make it seem more Amusement park like.

Pumbas Nakasak

Heading for the great escape.
Why? Do teens want to stand next to a verticaly challenged femaile in a furry suit for an over priced photo before handing over more money to be dressed in a nylon fire hazard outfit from India and have their hair scrapped back lieaving their face looking like its had a bad face lift?

Attractions for teens and young adults cost money, character meat and greets cost minimum wage and have up sell potential

WDW in the middle to late 90's, use to run commercials towards young adults. They use to promote WDW as a honeymoon place. That is why we went there. Here is one adult commerical from 1995.

I love these older Disney commercials..thanks for sharing them!

I'd love for them to market more towards young adults and couples. It truly is a wonderful place for couples of any age.
