Finn's job was to yell "Rey!" over and over. Poe actually became interesting in Rise of Skywalker for about a half hour. His history sounded a lot more interesting than the movie I watching.

For the most part, Rey, Poe and Finn were all very well received after force awakens. That said, I'm not sure how after Rians movie turned him into a clown, he will be taken seriously as a Jedi. Because that was the implication by the end of 9.
Personally I think it's way too soon to start anything with sequel characters. While I'm not convinced any of the 3 movies will actually come to be. Except the Jon and Dave movie, but even it wouldn't surprise me if they made it a D+ event. I think the dawn of the Jedi is the best concept to start with. Then transition into the old republic. Then 12 or 15yrs from now, bring back Rey, Finn and Poe.
I am also most interested in the dawn of the Jedi as well….I am hoping that one is brought to fruition

If they started with the Rey movie (let's call it Episode X because they will probably make more), then they could use it to hint at or allude to ancient Jedi beginnings. That could build the anticipation for the Dawn of the Jedi movie.
One thing should be for certain. If they do go with the episodal approach for the Rey/Finn stories, there will be a clear story plan this time rather than a muffled game of telephone. And I assume that is the approach they will take with ALL Star Wars films going forward.

Wasn't that what they already did with the sequels? 7 they talked about Luke searching for the first Jedi temple. Then 8 showed you this original Jedi temple with the Jedi text and force cave. Then 9 you see Rey studying the books because she took them. There was plenty in the sequels hinting at the origins of the Jedi.
Of course they should have it planned out. Unfortunately that doesn't seem to be the case. That isn't Kennedy's M.O. She just announced 3 movies in 3 completely different timeframes. If she had a plan for 10, 11 and 12, she would have said so. She's not afraid to announce new trilogies. Heck, there's people here who still argue the Rian Johnson trilogy is still happening. This announcement screams, lets throw some crap against the wall and see if anything sticks. That's why I'm not sure any of this plan actually happens as it was laid out.

I'd rather see the Old Republic before dawn of the Jedi. It's more impactful to see Revan poking around ancient Jedi and Sith relics if we haven't already seen the ancient Jedi and Sith.

Likely jumped ship when he saw the ineptness and coming chaos of a production (if it happens).
Imagine he got to his first meeting... and was ready to discuss a fantastic world with amazing characters and creatures and a rivetting story... and every other person in the meeting was just shouting "So everyone will be like, yasssss queeeeennn!!!!"

If there's one thing I have learned about modern Disney, is they are never the problem. It's always blame the fans, blame the audience. Why would any noteworthy creative even want to touch Star was? It's so divided that not many would want to take it on. Unless there are people who would be willing but Kennedy is rejecting them.

In the frame work of current Star Wars, what is there for people to be passionate about and stories they want to tell?
The brief for the Rey film would be to fix the sequels and set up potential for more films. It's an impossible task and I'm sure any genuine creative swings would be shot down. It would be, put us where the OT was at it's end.
Could you imagine what hell the discussion would be if a writer proposed a boyfriend for Rey?
