Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy Untitled Star Wars Film

Finn was consistent in trying to find a way to the outer rim and disappear. I hope he succeeded and does not return.
Rey was training Finn in the Force in the Lego SW Holiday Special. Granted it’s non canonical but it does I think reflect what would be going on post Episode IX.

I actually really liked Poe and Finn as characters but they just undeveloped. I’ve often said that a D+ show of them adventuring set between Ep VIII and IX would be interesting.

... Actually any word on if Finn would be in this?

According to some over on the Star Wars Leaks reddit; John Boyega initially said he wouldn't be interested in returning but then walked it back after talking to Kathleen Kennedy and instead said he would if a) she was in charge, b) the other cast were involved and c) he wasn't relegated to Disney+ (he wants to be involved with big film and filmmakers).

Each of those conditions seem to be in play here. -and with both Episode 9 hinting at his Force sensitivity and he and his character's fans desire for more to be done with Finn, I honestly would be surprised if he didn't show up for this one in some way.

So what does Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy know about Star Wars?

This is dumb even for you. So you want only directors who have worked for Star Wars? I guess you were against Jon Favreau since he had no connection to SW. I think he did pretty ok with Mando.

Ah yes, a film with the poorly written character who replaced one of the greatest cinematic heros of all time (via destroying and slaughtering of said hero)...

Doing the thing that the destroyed hero was supposed to be doing (and did in the EU books that Disney cancelled)...

Directed by an activist director...

This will go well I'm sure.

I haven't seen any positive reaction whatsoever. Nobody wants this.

This is one of those crickets moments like when Disney announced Tiana's Bayou Adventure replacing Splash Mountain.
This is why they announced it in London. If it was done at Celebration in the States, they would be booed off the stage.

What does this even mean? Nobody wants this so they announced in London where they apparently do want this?

I guess we‘re back to doing the thing where people who didn’t like the sequels can’t fathom that a lot of people did enjoy them.

Plus many people praise the casting as a high point of the new films.

Daisy Ridley is charming and wonderful. I also like Rey as a character, though I think they botched her backstory. My point is that nobody wants what will essentially be the Skywalker Saga X. They need new characters, new timelines, new conflicts.

Yes, Star Wars can continue, the stories can evolve, new characters plus creative adventures. In an entire galaxy with so many different creatures / beings there is an awesome amount of possibilities. Rey reconstituting the Jedi order would be a great start, as for the rest depensds how creative / imaginative the writers are.

In short it comes down to telling a good story.

While I agree with what you are saying, anyone can direct star wars. But to be fair, that isn't what he said. He asked what she knows about star wars. There's a difference. Favreau had a history with star wars. Just like Fiege, although he's never worked on star wars, he has a understanding as far as I can tell from listening to him talk about it. So that's why most didn't care when they said Kevin was working on something.

Now does Sharmeen have any knowledge of star wars? I have no clue, time will tell. Is it a deal breaker if she doesn't? No. Look at Tony Gilroy. Hes said in many interviews that he has no history and doesn't care about star wars. And rogue one is the best of the Disney star wars films. I think more people would be better with these directors if they were more confident in the story group to help with the star wars things as some would say.

Favreau had a history with star wars.

Before the Mandalorian, what history did he have with SW?

Sorry but if we are only having people who have worked in the SW universe before then the franchise will die a slow death. New blood is needed to help it grow and diversify from what we have already seen as well as give us more of what we want.

As for having Sharmeen directing all I will say is that the episodes she directed on Ms. Marvel were fresh and original and I am excited to see what she brings to a new cinematic playground.

You missed the whole point. By history I meant with knowledge of the brand. I agreed with you on the directors, I made that clear. Having a good knowledge of the IP can be extremely helpful though. But it isn't the end all be all. That's why I said the story group needs to be better. So someone who might not have the knowledge like Jon or Kevin have, they have a place to go and get answers.

Ms. Marvel was amazing and the people who wrote it off are actually the people most likely to enjoy it.
When you think about it, Ms. Marvel is basically a female ( and non-white/non-Christian) version of Spider-Man. Similar getting powers as a teen and then balancing school/life with crime fighting.

I mean, anyone who enjoys that premise for Peter Parker should have the same appeal for Khamala.
