Shark Reef to close at Typhoon Lagoon

Disney really hates its customers, doesn't it? It almost feels like there's someone in the back office desperately trying to find the most unique and original things and close them down.

Oh well, at least it makes my next trip cheaper, now that I can skip Typhoon Lagoon and just do Volcano Bay.

We did this once and didn't enjoy it. It's not that it wasn't a cool attraction, I just failed miserably at snorkeling. And since I wear glasses and not contacts, I couldn't see anything. Luckily my GoPro captured the moment.

Even if it's not for me, I'm sad too see a unique experience like this go.

WDW really missed a golden marketing opportunity on this. They should have set the closing date at end of Nov or beginning of Dec - then ran huge ad campaigns over the next few weeks like they did with the Osbourne Lights..."don't miss this last chance to snorkel the famous Typhoon Lagoon reef - the only one of its kind! And only available until XX/XX!" I guarantee it would have packed the parks daily.

Even better, combine with the "last chance to see MSEP" broadcast spots I'm seeing.

Bummer. Having never been, we had this penciled in for our upcoming trip and were quite looking forward to it. :(
Quick. Someone convince me I didn't miss out on anything special.
You would have just been snorkiling like at Castaway cay but smaller

So you would skip an entire park because one attraction closed?

Was it unique? Yes. But it was a very short amount of space to swim and I wouldn't say it was all that great. It was nice but I think I did it maybe 3 times in about 10 years worth of visits.

First, I want to thank Walt Disney World for giving me an opportunity to take a item off my bucket list .By having Shark Reef available to all of us, I was able to swim with those beautiful creatures. What a thrill !! Second, I can't agree more with some of the comments that imply that the powers that be are taking away the magic that we all have grown to love and expect from the mouse. Having Marvel characters, Frozen, and Star Wars fill the void left behind by some of the more diverse and magical events and rides, just doesn't cut it for me. Again Thank you Walt Disney World for the memories. I will miss the Osborne Lights, Shark Reef , and believe it or not Pizza Planet

Agreed except for Pizza Planet. By calling a bad restaraunt Pizza Planet just to call it that seems more like a Disney move of today not the past, but it's always been a company like this. They did this to Horizons, 20K, and ET: AE among others.

Notably it's always been the SAME group of people cutting at Disney, Eisner's 'Strategic Planning' group and it's alumni of which Iger was a charter member.

Disney desperately needs new blood in the executive ranks.

I did this with my family one year (unfortunately can't remember which). While it was a cool experience, I remember being a little freaked out because
  1. Some of the sharks were swimming closer to the surface than we were told they would be
  2. My snorkel wasn't working correctly.
While it's a shame they're getting rid of this, and it's not like it could be duplicated at Blizzard Beach (swimming with... Polar Bears??? Penguins?? Puffins?), the park needed another water ride. If they ever bring this back, I hope it's a larger tank.

This makes cut number one million and ... this year just when it looked like the cutting had stopped at WDW it the cut machine spools up again, But hey think of the thousands of shares $DIS will be able to repurchase with the 'savings' from closing this special and unique attraction.

Iger wasn't part of Strategic Planning and its biggest names are finally gone.

Iger was Eisner's poorly selected second in command to say Iger was not part of the 'Strategic Planning' group would be misleading at best it would be like say Eisner had no role in the 'Strategic Planning' group where he was it's founder and executive sponsor. Did either Eisner or Iger have a title with 'Strategic Planning' in it NO, Were they involved?. Yes, yes they were.

Strategic Planning was a specific group that included specific people. You making things up doesn't help criticism of Disney.
